I fly NWA and the prices on www.nwa.com seem to be the lowest. You just need to play around with the dates a bit to find the lowest price. -Vox

I stayed in one of the small rooms a couple weeks ago. They suck. There's enough room to open the door and then the rest of the room is the bed. No window, no telephone (I didn't need one, but you might) and you can hear any noise made in the hotel area in the morning. In my case the noise was loud hammering every day. It was a crappy room. I never thought I'd be embarssed to bring a bar girl back to my hotel room but that was sure the case (of course I did anyway). I can see the rooms being fine if all you do is stumble in and sleep at night, but it really feels like a cell.

Alcohol ban in Thailand over New Year
VoxVader replied to wombat's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Seems like this is not oriented towards foreigners at all. The ban is mostly going to effect package liquor sales. Most Thais are not going to be drinking in some bar, it's too expensive. Seems like an effort to stop a lot of car crashes and other problems by making people get their booze early and stay home with it. Hell, I live in a state in the U.S. where liquor sales are banned outside of entertainment establishments EVERY SUNDAY. -Vox -
You do realize that your site is on the official "Links" page for the FLB site don't you? How much more recognition do you want? -Vox

Same same me. I typically cannot sleep on planes, but on my last trip I stayed up all night and slept all the way to Tokyo and most of the way to Seattle. It was fantastic. -Vox

Eastiny Place ...Deposit required?
VoxVader replied to PATFAN's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I wouldn't be too concerned. Email or call them the day of or the day before to let them know you'll definietly be making it, but checking in late. -Vox -
I'll look again, I didn't see where/how we picked. -Vox
-
I joined up but it looks like we can'y make our picks until Dec 25th? I'll be in LOS by then and might not be able to remember to play! -Vox
-
Funny. Some pray on the way to the airport that their cab will brake down and they'll have to get bumped to the flight the next day giving them one mroe night in LOS! -Vox

I would stay in Bangkok, but just because leaving from Pattaya adds another 2 hours to what will be a long trip anyway going home. I don't want to spend my time before sitting on a plane sitting in a car. That said, if it doesn't bother you I don't see a big difference between leaving at 2:00 from Pattaya or 4:00 from Bangkok. Either way you have time to get in a little sanuk before you are off. One benefit of Pattaya might be that it is less likely you will have to deal with a BG wanting to go to the airport with you. -Vox

Except that games called "hockey" were played long before anyone thought to transfer the game to ice. Various types of field hockey games have been around since the middle ages at least and arguably were played thousands of years ago. The word hockey comes from "hook" and refers to any game played with "hooked" sticks for the purpose of hitting a ball or puck. Hockey was always played with a ball until it was played on ice when a puck became more appropriate. -Vox

Check out the maps at: http://www.bahtbus.com/map/index.html They should help you orient yourself. As others have said, the Baht Buses make getting around so easy that you really don't have to worry about being in one place or the other. For everyone it will boil down to personal preference so just go with a good hotel your first stay. -Vox

I'm getting in late night on the 20th so I could probably meet for a drink that night if you are also getting in late or on the 21rst. -Vox

Well not sure what theme is needed other than prowling for stunnas! As far as a code word or something to recognize each other I suppose we could just walk in an say out loud, "Anyone from FLB?" I don't have one of those FLB towels or anything. I'm pretty recognizable. 31 but could pass for younger. 5'9", 175 pounds, athletic build, bleached blonde hair and rings in both ears. Oh, and I'll be the guy drinkng a beer... I'll try and get there by 5:45 (I'm staying at Nana so this shouldn't be a problem). You can just call out "Vox!" and I'll answer. -Vox

Nice report, the hotel looks pretty good. What's the location? From the pic it looks like down near Soi 1 or so? Thanks, Vox

Hi Rouge, Did you have to arrange the connection or did it come with the room? Is this a serviced apartment ro a hotel? Please keep us up to date on how it works out. I, for one, would appreciate it! Regards, Vox

The terminal is new this year and if you have only been through the old one you'll be pleasantly surpised. There is okay food, a bar, some shopping and the downstairs lounge area iare great big reclined chairs and huge monitors showing the boarding line. It's gone from the absolute crappiest terminal I've ever been in, in a major airport to one of the nicer ones. -Vox

I don't claim expertise, but it is unlikely the dollar will regain strength anytime soon. The U.S. government is borrowing lots and lots of money right now and has no interest in the dollar getting stronger. Though the U.S. economy seems to be recovering or even going strong, a weak dollar helps so I don't predict any fiscal policy changes to strengthen it. It also appears that foreign currency reserves world wide have diversified over the last couple years and confidence in the Euro should keep it this way so there probably wont be a lot of international buying of the dollar that wou

Give a big hand to PM Thaksin Shinawatra
VoxVader replied to mattelyo's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Polling data in the U.S. has shown that the public has a warped perception of how much aid is given out. When asked what percentage of GDP goes to foreign aid most American's think it's about 10%. When asked how much should go they answer 1-2% The reality is about 0.01% with half of it going to two countries (Israel and Egypt). I wonder if perceptions in other countries are similar? -Vox -
Clearly this needs to be established once and for all by a four-man elimination Muay Thai tournament between Torrenova, Crackpot, Valantinoxx and Nightcrawler. I'll volunteer to referee and KJ can take book. Proceeds can subsidize the raffle pool. -Vox
-
The pool is completed. I would always try to stay off the second floor though regardless as it's just too close to the street noise. On the other hand if you overlook the car park you can make selections from your window at 2:00 AM. -Vox

Great so aid that could go to say, HIV+ rural Thais will now get refused so that Thailand can gain face by saying it doesn't need aid. Yeah, I'm giving a big hand to Thaksin. Millions of Thais will die because the Thai government refuses to call the AIDS problem a public health emergency and thereby bypass WTO rules on medicines and allow anti-HIV drug generics to be imported. Just like us, Thakin sure likes to screw Issan.... -Vox
