  1. Sounds like my parents' generation's "Chinese food" -- candy-sweet plum sauce on "dumplings" and loads of MSG. I like Japanese Chinese food, which isn't the real deal either but it's closer and much tastier. I'll check it out and make my own determination though.
  2. Thanks for the history lesson, EP! I didn't realize that Hawaiian pizza originated in Canada (in North America anyway). It certainly is popular in my country, maybe because it's as close as a trip to sunny Hawaii as most Canadians will ever get.
  3. I did get the password but I wasn't able to log on for some reason.
  4. My provider in Japan will cheerfully hook me up with a data plan in Thailand for 300 baht day
  5. Some of my fellow gluttons have informed me that GASCO is doing the chili dog thing all wrong. Chili on hot dogs is not supposed to have beans in it. Beans in a bowl of chili is fine, my sources all assured me, but not on a hot dog or burger. This was news to me, but may be of concern for other chili dog purists.
  6. Looking forward to trying the menu at the Bite. Unfortunately when I dropped in the other day the wifi wasn't working, and as I was dining alone I needed something to read. The waitress was slow in bringing a menu and slow in coming to take my order, which I took as a bad sign, so I went across the street to Easy Health (or something like that), where I had the most deliciously spiced pumpin soup I've ever tasted. I'll give the Bite another try sometime soon.
  7. I'll probably do the same next time. That's a lot of bread. Looking forward to checking the rest of the menu.
  8. I gather The Bite and Naando's are owned by the same folks. If I don't feel like hoofing it up to the second floor, can I order from the Naando's menu from a table on the ground floor?
  9. I dropped in the other day and had the chili dog too. This is a big dog! I couldn't finish it. Looking forward to going back again soon.
  10. What's the difference between a rooster and a lawyer? A rooster clucks defiance.
  11. EP, your food reviews are awesome as always. I'm glad to see Five Star J fries with coconut oil. In most cooking oils, heating destroys the beneficial fats, but this is not true with coconut oil apparently. (Olive oil is fine for drizzling over salad, etc.) Five Star J, Spaghetti Bistro, Great American Sandwich Company -- I've got my work cut out for me. Back in town next week, can't wait.
  12. Cheddar? Have you got cheddar? It's the most popular cheese in the world.
  13. Why not try the spam, baked beans, sausages and spam? It's not got much spam in it.
  14. Dropped in at Dave's Cantina last night with a couple of visiting friends. We all had a great time and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. My friends had the tortilla soup while I had the chili soup, both pronounced great. At the table there are three kinds of hot sauce, so we mixed and matched, trying them variously on our tacos, burritos, quesadillas and refried beans. The joint is a bit out of the way so you have to look for it, but with directions we found it easily. Tell your driver it's on Soi Kruptidin, enter from Third Road and keep going till you see it on the le
  15. This hoary old joke comes out once every three or four years. It was once wrongly attributed to John Cleese who had to strenuously deny that he had ever said such a thing.

    Oops

Be careful out there. The erection you experience may not be your own.
  17. Thanks guys! Lots of good tips, some of which I missed the first time (attention span of a goldfish). I'll check out a bunch of those when I roll into town.
  18. hi guys, any restaurants that serve curry without coconut milk that you know of?
  19. I'm there! Is that the same soi as Tigglebitties? Is it closer to Third Road than Tigglebitties is? Got a few friends coming in from Japan, they like Mexican food so I'll try to bring them along.
