firth I know that Skyscanner is OK "It is not Skyscanner that is suspect "
-
I have been reading on moneysavingexpert (Martin Lewis) about many disgruntled passengers who initially used Skyscanner which showed fly.co.uk as the cheapest flights (not BKK). Then added charges and other problems including big cancellation charges showed this company to be very troublesome at best. The company is Germany based, maybe Leipzeig, so no UK consumer protection. It is not Skyscanner that is suspect but fly.co.uk, if thinking of booking with this company it may be best to do a good Google search beforehand.

I am looking at staying at Bay Breeze for 7 nights in November, I have stayed there in the past but a few years ago. Then I had a larger room, it was a bit tatty but OK, the only problem being the easily opened safe. :) The new hotel web site shows weekly rates as Standard 5250, Balcony 6300, Superior 7700, Deluxe 8400 and a suite for 12600, I will not be going for a suite but may go for a superior, can any board members add any more room info since the refurb? The old security guy was OK, very concientius ..for a 20 :) It could be noisy from the Beer bars on 2nd road but not very often

Thanks for the info Guys, especially Severn and Jacko.

Without doubt the Taxes and Airport charges are a big slice of the ticket price these days, it is very difficult to actually work out whats what because each airline seems to work things out differently. Have you ever noticed that with flights to Thailand with the middle east airlines, taxes and charges can actually be lower than direct flights even though there is an additional airport handling charge. For my November flight (6 weeks) I can get Eva for £624 or Qatar are about £90/100 cheaper, I have always flown Eva and love a direct flight, Qatar have a good reputation but I don't know

I had an e-mail from Eva Airways today saying that I could get £15 off my next flight, I thought £15 is not much, but better than a kick in the nuts. Then lower down the offer it says " for flights between 18th and 31st August" They are not giving much away are they?

Cheers for that info jacko, is the Petronas gas station in Pattaya or Jomtien? I may want one from Jomtien to Victory. If no can do then a BB to Klang will have to suffice.

The 393 bus services are late afternoon or early evening from Pattaya to Hua Hin which are a little late for me. Are there minivans from Jomtien or Pattaya which go to Victory Monument where you can change services for a van to Hua Hin?

I believe that Rolls Royce shares fell 2% today because an engine on a Dreamliner was found to have some contamination. I am sure that you can find out more if you so wish. I think Thai would do better on the LHR route if their aircraft had Premium Economy class seating, Eva do very well and their tickets are now about £900 depending when you want to travel.

2 airports 5Km apart, how long before someone lands on the wrong one? :)

I thought that I read somewhere that if you are over 65 you are allowed to go through the Fast track/VIp immigration desks, anyone know any more? TIA

Thanks for the help guys.

I am thinking of taking a laptop to Thailand for my next trip so I am able to watch BBC Iplayer etc, already I have been advised to get a VPN Virtual private Network to help with that. Now I am not too IT savvy but I know that you can get an internet connection where there is WiFi, but if there is no WiFi connection, is there a sim card that you can buy which doesn't work out ridiculously expensive? TIA

City lodge hotel, soi 9 Bangkok. A short review.
Gus replied to firth1974's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
firth CL19 is worth looking at, usually around 400 more than CL9 but probably worth it. Nice noodle stall outside, 7\11 next door, plus Friends is a few doors up the soi. Since T21 has opened you do hear a bit of the security guys blowing their whistles but not too bad. -
kanchanaburi to namtok, a photographic journey.
Gus replied to firth1974's topic in Pictorial Travel Reports
Surely a match or a lighter would have cleared the Bamboo :) Lovely piccies. I did the trip once and stayed at the River Kwai village hotel, nice place, Hellfire Pass was awesome. I came back from the hotel to Kanchanaburi on the service bus, just outside Kanchanaburi he pulled slowly into the Esso garage to fuel up, with a bus load of passengers. the reason he was slow because he had run out of diesel, so then up with the engine cover and bleed the air out of the engine, only in Thailand. :) -
grimsby, it depends how big a person you are, if you are in the 5.9" size; economy should be fine for you. I have not flown KLM but £57 for exit row or £100 for Premium Economy, I would probably go for the latter. Whatever you choose, have a great time, coming from Grimsby you must be addicted to the smell of fish. :)

It must be a seasonal thing, whenever I fly with Eva the aircraft is normally 90%+ full, but I do fly November to February. I suppose it is a quiet time from now until the main summer holidays.

On the link provided the economy seat piccie shows an executive watching the screen, but the seat in front is upright, his is reclined and there doesn't seem that much room. Supposed to be 32" with 16.9" width, may try them if I can afford business class.
-
Thats very true Paul, from first sitting down until getting off the aircraft is usually 13hrs+. I prefer Eva, in fact I have always flown Eva except for the very first time I went to Thailand and I spent a few days in Hong Kong first. I believe that Thai are revamping their aircraft on the LHR route this year, so they may be worth keeping an eye on. I will never fly BA after a bad incident one time, my seat was in economy but I went a walk around the aircraft and found myself in Club Class. A bitchy stewardess said to me, "Yes sir, can I help you?" I replied, " I have got my eyes on the

The woman don't like you because they know you are going out to Thailand for the LBFMs most of whom are prettier, sexier etc etc than a frumpy old falang woman.

Four weeks ago when I flew to Bangkok from LHR I had a browse around the Heathrow duty free and they have a large amount of Single malts. One that took my eye was a Bhunnahabin (sp?) from Islay, it was in a wooden presentation case and was just over £130. On my return i checked out The Whisky Exchange and it was around £170. http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/ It may be possible to make a few quid by buying an expensive single malt at the duty free and reselling it elsewhere, but you really have to know what you are doing because of the huge number of variations of even one brand. In Hua Hin
