only a question of being used to and having a good fan but i would say since ac rooms are readily available for a cheap price, would be a bit much in terms of trying to save money...after all you come here either for holliday or to settle permanently, in both cases you would not want to let your standard of living drop, would you? but that's one thing everybody has to decide on his own i guess. cheers cyber

taxi to pattaya, wednesday july 28th
cybers1b replied to bigorange1's topic in Meeting - Cost sharing
If you don't mind coming to Bangkok first, I could give you a (free) ride as I am going on a long weekend with my wife and our baby. I will be at the office at fortune tower (the Airport Bus to Silom goes near there, it is in the Prathunam area) until around 13:00 but would wait for you. Then we will be pickign up my wife and baby from near Asoke and off we go to Pattaya. Only thing, if you have more then 2 bags it might get full as my wife tends to pack half the house when going on a trip. just PM me if you want to go along and I will PM you my phone number. cheers cyber -
yeah, it is tp prevent missuse - for example, try to post a reply and then immediatly edit it, you get the same error. i guess these settings can be edited by the admin to his needs, right pete? cheers cyber

ActiveX is a M$ technology that is not supported by Firefox, Netscape, Opera...there are plugins to download for these Browesers, but who would want to do that, after all, it is a good thing that it does not work in these Browsers as it makes them safer. I think the activex plug in for netscape is called ScriptActive ors omething like that.

I am not surprised that there are no ActiveX controls at all After all, as long as Microsoft is involved, you can always expect some surprises. I agree, Firefox is a good one, and it really is fater as the Memory Management in it's code is better then that of IE. Also Opera is a nice one. But if you wanna be 100% better off - Linux is the answer Unfortunatly our Company is M$ Fan when it comes to Desktops so I have to use it, but well, at leasy at home i don't. cheers cyber

good clean accomadation in bkk
cybers1b replied to blondeboy68's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Well, during off season and with a bit of bargaining skill, usually you get the studio around 1300, can be 1150 for longer stays. Just need the right approach to the manager -

cybers1b replied to blondeboy68's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I would also say, even though slightly over the limit of your budget, Majestic or Omni (at omni you get a ncie studio for 1300). And another good one in my opinion is the Woraburi, a little further down soi 4 from the omni on the right side, it is 750 a night for clean rooms, has a nice pool and nice staff. Here are the links: OMNI TOWER MAJESTIC SUITES WORABURI INN All 3 are in an excellent location, quite, clean and good value for money. The breakfast Buffet at Woraburi is quite good too and included in the price cheers cyber -
well, when windows is involved, it is not always that simple and logical that's why i suggested to try it with another browser. it also makes a difference if you have SP2 for Internet Explorer Installed or not. you can get that info by clicking help and then "About Internet Explorer" and it would be interesting what sort of activex controls are being used on the site, that can only be answered by pete though. as to norton, i don't think it is a problem with internet security, NIS is usually not causing problems even though the 2004 version still has some bugs.

monkey and mbruice what versions of the Internet Explorer are u using? Try just for a change to download Netscape and see if it still happens with Netscape. http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/download.jsp or any other browser like mozilla, opera,... cheers cyber

it sure is a problem on you end if you get the same message. it can be caused by an windows upgrade or any software installation that touches the comcat.dll - try one of the above, the comcat.dll fix worked for me in my old company to fix a couple of NT and W2K machines... the first fix is not a fix really but a workaround, but worth trying though. cheers cyber

I am happy for you that you found a place to live near your working place at teh malibu but seriously, how full are they? or better, how many rooms do they have? i might check it out this weekend. sounds interesting.

The seats are about the comfort of some other airlines business class, quite ok for the price. The food is the same as in their economy which is quite excellent I would say. Only thing is that the inflight entertainment is a bit out of date, but well, that's not a big drawback. I have heard that they don't offer deluxe class on the routes from/to Vienna anymore though, is that true? Staff is very friendly too. cheers cyber

In some cases flights purchased in Thailand may be cheaper (especially one way fares). Basically everyone entereing the Kingdom is by law required to produce a return flight ticket within the time that his visa is valid (yes, that means that basically teh law says that if you arrive on 2 month tourist visa, your return flight must be before the exiration - not counting any extensions or visa trips). on the other hand, i have never been ask for one in all the times I flew in, and i never heard of anybody else who has, maybe someone here?

in the first one i just did not take the weather conditions here seriously enough and got dehydrated and had to quit at 25 km, last year, i just did start way too fast and was out of breath after 12 km only - very disapointing. Well, let's wait for this year

dave, i run the bangkok marathon for the last 6 years and have finished 4 times (which i think is not so bad) - if you are interested in running, you might like this lin THAILANDMARATHON which gives info on all major running events in thailand. cheers cyber

ok, it is probably really either a damaged or wrong version of the comcat.dll, the best way to resolve this problem would basically be the following: but i know that reinstalling internet explorer can cause an seasoned it exprt headache, so first i would try the following..right click this link and say "save target as" -> save the dll to your desktop. COMCAT.DLL open your windows explorer and go to the C:\WINDOWS\system32 directory. locate the file comcat.dll, copy it to a save location (not to your desktop though as there is the new dll) then use the following command: click start -> run -> type the following line: regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\system32\comcat.dll (where WINDOWS can be a different directory for Win98, can't really remember) go and delete the old dll from the system32 and move the new one from the desktop to the system32 directory now click start -> run -> type the following line: regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\comcat.dll (again you have to check if for win98 the system32 directory is in the same location and change the command accordingly) after that (if you have not recieved an error), reboot the system and hope for the best :-) used to work for me on an NT Machine a couple if years back, but can not guarantee the success on win98... good luck anyway and if u need further helo, you can also mail me at work cause that may be faster sigmund@asianet.co.th cheers cyber CAUSE This issue can occur if the Comcat.dll file is damaged or is the wrong version number. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, unregister the Comcat.dll file by using the Regsvr32.exe utility with the /u switch as in the following example: regsvr32 /u C:\winnt\system32\comcat.dll and rename the Comcat.dll file in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder. After you unregister the Comcat.dll file, reinstall Internet Explorer. For information about how to rename a file, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type renaming, and then double-click the "Renaming files" topic. If you remove Internet Explorer before you reinstall it, be sure to rename the Comcat.dll file after removing Internet Explorer. The information in this article applies to: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 for Windows NT 4.0 Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 for Windows NT 4.0 Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 for Windows NT 4.0 Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 for Windows 2000 Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 for Windows 98 Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 for Windows 98 Second Edition Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 for Windows Millennium Edition Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 for Windows NT 4.0 Last Reviewed: 12/5/2003 (3.0) Keywords: kberrmsg kbprb KB235653

but before starting to mess around with dll's - try the following, much easier, thing. but do this only if the sites from where you get this error are sites you trust. that works only if you have any version of the internet explorer 1) click tools 2) choose "internet options", you will get something like this: 3) choose the security tab and click on "trusted sites" , then click on the "sites" button below. 4) fill in the site that you want to add (example http://www.pattayatalk.com) 5) click add 6) click ok -> then better reboot the system once and see if it has solved the problem... hope it works cheers cyber

ok, that is pretty sure (85%) a problem with the following dll: comcat.dll now it depends on what version of windows you run and if you have any version of ms office installed and if so, which version. let me know and i will tell you how to fix it (as i said, with 85% guarantee)

according to a friend who just stayed there, the noise is not a real problem. but you can as well just drop by when u r in pattaya, and if you like it, change to stay there, at this time they will hardly be fully booked...
-
can only confirm that - no joiner fees at any of the sunshine properties and the staff is usually very easy about it and handle the girls nice if they stay with you more then just ST.

emil - but as far as i know, boeing still sells the 300 configuration of the 737 don't they - i mean, the planes at air asia in any case are quite new.

erik, if you are looking for something right in the center of action, i always stay at the sunshine at soi 8 9since they have their new wing) - the rooms are clean, new, tv reception is great with many channles, the bathroom is clean with a bathtube, well, the new wing is really new. the rack rate is 1027 baht per night but during this time of teh year u should be able to get a better price http://www.sunshinepattaya.com as an alternative (since you seem to like the upper segment) you can check the sunshine vista at soi 3 (also a convinient location, some sopies in walking distance as well as many beer bars, soi 2, soi 6, big c, all in the area) they offer studios, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, i stayed there once when they where completely new (still could smell the fresh paint and the room was obviously never used before). it is nice if you prefer this kind of serviced appartment. i dont know the currenmts rates - check it out at http://www.sunshinevista.com/home.htm cheers cyber

but to contribute something useful as well, i have not personally used air asia but some collegues have, and the stories have been all positive. they operate only one type of aircraft, boeing 737-300 - that keeps their cost down as they only have to keep spareparts for one type of aircraft as well as train their staff only on one type. they are a malaysian company, i think air asia was the first low cost carrier in asia. the 737-300 is, correct me if i am wrong, one of the most reliable aircrafts ever build and i think one of the best sold as well. as to their saftey record, no serious incident since they where founded that i know of. and what the people said who flew it, the planes look very well maintained and the staff is friendly enough. but don't expect any fancy infligh service, there will be none of these, but then, you are using a low cost carrier because of the price and not for the food, and as far as i have heard, they have a couple of stunning ladies in their service hehehe And just in case someone does not know, that's their website: AIR ASIA
