BPH, TURP (and ED)
Firepole replied to Blackwell's topic in Doctors, Dentists, Clinics and Hospitals
Google " Prostatic Artery Embolization ". I don't have ANY experience with invasive BPH treatment but a neighbor's wife asked me to look into available options. They know my background and trust that I can interpret things better than they can. It's a, relatively, new procedure and it's not done in many places. TURP sounds like a horrific procedure to me. In my research I decided that TURP would NOT be my first choice if I needed invasive BPH treatment. Do your research. A LOT of research. One very common complaint with any invasive BPH treatment is a change in orgasm feel and ejaculation. Again, do a lot of research. Don't jump at an option "just to get it over with". There is NO going back with this stuff. BTW, I, personally, don't trust doctors. If your doctor only knows how to perform TURP you can bet he will tell you that PAE(Prostatic Artery Embolization) isn't for you. -
Used Nam's twice. SUV both times. Both times were Toyota Fortuner's. One was 3 month's old. The other, a little older. Both spotless. Google cargo space.

Is Nam, herself, going to absorb the cost of the tollway increase or will it be passed onto the drivers? I only ask because if it gets passed onto the driver I will give the driver an EXTRA 50Bt in the tip while explaining the reason(toll increase) for the extra 50Bt to them. If Nam, herself, absorbs it, there's no doubt that giving the driver the extra 50Bt, to give to Nam, will not make it to Nam.

Best time of year to go to Pattaya?
Firepole replied to Tucker_69er's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
High season Nov through March - Better weather(slightly cooler but still HOT), more mongers, costs(flights/hotels/ladies) will be more due to supply and demand. You'll still get what you're looking for without problem. Low season- Hotter/wetter, fewer mongers, costs(flights/hotels/ladies) a little lower due to excess supply. It's quieter but by no means dead. You'll still have a good time and get what you're looking for without problem. -
KISS as a last resort. Over the years I've only eaten there twice and I think that may have been as a result of a bizarre need to have diarrhea. All kidding aside, with the mixed reviews I'd read, and the high volume of people eating there 24/7, I had to try it to form my own opinion. Both times I noted that the fryer oil tasted OLD. Ancient really. I'm guessing they filled the fryolator when they opened in the 80's and, without ever changing it, just kept adding oil as needed. The food, overall, was substandard even for the price. There are other places to get higher quality eats for about the same price. I think the main reason people keep coming back is it's familiar and always open. An old stand-by. Kinda like the fat broad who you don't want to date but, hey, once and awhile, when it's 4am and you're drunk..... With it's location, if they increased the food quality a bit, and its price accordingly, they'd make a killing. But, for as long as it's been there, they must know what they're doing and, most likely, ARE making a killing. For me, I'll pass unless I'm unable to secure reservations at a fancy place like McDonald's or Burger King.

Under 300 Baht ... And Good! (updated July 4, 2022)
Firepole replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Restaurants and food
To follow up on Evil's review of The Diners Express. This pertains to their inexpensive breakfast. This review is from Dec. 2016 so things might've changed. THE DINERS EXPRESS at VILLA MARKET - 2nd Road opposite Soi 13 - In the Avenue Shopping Arcade/Mall(where McDonald's is). Villa Market is at the back end of the parking lot(200 feet) and not very easy to see from 2nd Road unless you know where to look. There are a few tables inside the front door. It's clean, A/C is cold, food seems fresh, cooked fast, and, most importantly, after approx. 10-12 meals not a single case of the shits. American breakfast BEFORE 11am is 68bt. After 11am it jumps to 88bt. 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, toast w/butter and jam, juice, and coffee or tea. Bacon was, actually, cooked correctly. Meals are not overly generous but, even as a fat slob, I'm happy. If you're looking to get bloated with food go elsewhere. For me, it's just enough to ward off the hunger without turning me into an uncomfortable, lumbering, beast. The menu is fairly extensive with most items with chicken or pork around or below 100bt. Yes, there are a few items(w/seafood) above 100bt and also some items WELL above 100bt. Cafeteria closes at 9pm but I think the market itself is open until 10. -
I realize that you're offering to teach Thai but it might be a good idea to indicate what your first language is. Is that you speaking in the Youtube videos? If not, are you Thai born with Thai being your first language? By the syntax used in the posts above I'm guessing that English is not your "first" language. The I.D of "Learn Thaigood", as opposed to "Learn Thaiwell", is a bit concerning if English is a first language to you. But, I must say, if Thai is your first language, and English is your second, you speak/write English very well.

Stop into a realtors office in Pattaya, explain that you won't be ready to buy for a year+ and you want to poke around on your own. Ask them about the MLS service they use. To get their attention tell them that you'll provide them with some of the paid transaction work(provided it's a fair price) IF a deal goes through. Typically, use of the MLS in the U.S. is a paid subscription but, maybe, they can point you to a webpage(or have their own) that can break it down with your parameters in mind. Realtors, like car salesmen, are scum. If they can make 10Bt two years down the road they'll listen.

You CANNOT purchase a ticket on this website but it will show you fares, flights, and airlines, either for specific days or in a calendar view. Then, simply, book with the airline. I think it's the same software that travel agents use. Keep in mind that some airlines hold the best fares internally but this website is a good "jumping off point". I'm seeing round trip fares from London(some LHR, some GTW) to NYC(some JFK some EWR) in the $4-600 range from now through, at least, December. Be advised, one discount airline(Norwegian Air) has, IMO, a website that is a bitch to navigate. ******Edit to say that, because of the location info under your avatar and currency indicated as pounds, I thought you were in England. I didn't check fares from SEAsia if that's where you're, currently, located.********** Here it is: CLICK HERE

First time traveller, hotel suggestions
Firepole replied to starbuck1968's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
First trip? Make a list of a bunch of hotels on the Soi's between Beach Road and Second Road. Then, pour over the forum(s) eliminating hotels that are out of your price range, comfort level, etc... If you stay within those parameters you'll have quick access to baht buses that will take you from wherever you stay down to Walking Street and all the way up to the Dolphin Roundabout. You won't even have to cross a major road unless you want to. Yes, there are hotels, and things to do, when you cross Second Road, but nothing you can't find without crossing it. -
Worst Hotel in Thailand for Punters?
Firepole replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
As I'd read about it a few years back, when I saw the topic title, I just knew this hotel would be mentioned. I'm one of the "undomesticated" people they mention on their website. They post, stand by, and enforce, their policy. No arbitrary bullshit that is so typical in Thailand. I wouldn't fit in there, because of their policy, but I respect what I'll call their fortitude. -
I've used hamburger buns to make garlic bread. Not what I planned to do but you gotta use what you have on hand, right? It really wasn't that bad.
-
Or, you could, like is done in the "Bite Me" thread, post the day's offerings along with your address. I'm sure they'll be no shortage of baht buses dumping hungry punters on your doorstep. BTW, it looks like you're pretty good in the kitchen. Looks as good, if not better, than anything I've seen. Well, except for that Ladyboy Chicken.

Anyone, on their first trip to Thailand, who doesn't spend 2-3 days in Bangkok is missing out on a, truly, memorable experience. I lot has changed there in recent years(some say better-I say worse) but a 1st timer wouldn't know that. That grand ol' shithole Nana Hotel is a must for a first timer. It still holds a little of its seedy charm. Not like a few years+ ago but....... Ahh, I hate change "for the better".

After watching a video from "Youtube", or wherever, in fullscreen simply minimize the PLAYER(not the webpage) and click the "SPACEBAR" on your keyboard once or twice. This should solve the problem until you maximize a flash player again. Simply repeat when needed. Not a permanent fix but it beats shutting down your laptop every time you watch a video. If anyone knows of a permanent solution(drivers already updated) please post it. Thanks upfront.

Been saying this for a long time myself. Kids(and adults as well) see this shit and, understandably, wonder why the get disciplined for the same offense. It's gotten a lot worse as "sports" has grown from a mere business into a huge business enterprise with big payouts. Gotta have violence and controversy to keep the caveman crowd interested and watching the beer commercials. You want to see ratings go up and send a message to everyone who wants to be a sports figure at the same time? Every time one of these assholes, who gets paid huge amounts of money to play a fucking schoolyard game, takes a swing at somebody have a couple of cops go out on the field, put them in handcuffs, arrest them, and haul their ass to jail. If they resist, Taser them. This is exactly what would happen 30 feet from the field/floor to anyone else. Ratings would go through the roof.

I have the exact same problem. Never happened running XP pro but my new laptop has Vista(SUCKS) and it happens all the time(including Youtube). I think it has something to do with the players being used at the various sites(Youtube, Redtube, etc...) to play the videos. I've searched for an answer but haven't found anywhere that the same issue is touched upon. If you ever find an answer please post it or PM. Thanks. This doesn't fix the scrolling problem but did you change the settings for what happens when you close your laptop lid? This is for Vista but I did the same with XP. CLICK: Start Menu Control Panel(I've got my Control Panel set for "Classic View" as it's easier to navigate) Power Options(in "classic view") System Settings(look for "Change what happens when I close lid")

Bring more than one Epipen or Twinjet(if that's your savior). Enough for a worst case scenario where you react more than once during your stay. Look into Twinjet if you might need more than one dose during a reaction. You need to talk with an M.D. for more specifics. Carry a copy of your original prescription with your meds. Less of a chance anything will be confiscated(although, highly UNlikely) Don't go by what I nor anyone else here, as helpful as we'd like to be, says. It's your life. Consult with an M.D. Ask your Dr. to write up, IN LAYMAN'S TERMS, your condition and the treatment for the condition in case you react. Ask someone here to translate it into Thai with the words "Give to Doctor at Hospital" at the top in big letters and carry the translation with you(you get the idea). I would have to believe(not positive though) that even Thai doctors are familiar with anaphylaxis with all the insects around. I don't know if the Thai's are familiar with Medic Alert tags. They may just think it's an ugly piece of jewelery. If you wear one don't bet your life on it being recognized, if it's even noticed, for what it is. If you don't already know them, learn to recognize the early signs of anaphylaxis. Dose yourself right away and get to the hospital with the injector and your translated note in hand. Confirm this with your Dr but even if you're wrong a single dose of adrenaline shouldn't fuck you up too bad. Again, CONFIRM WITH YOUR DR. If you dose you should still go to the hospital even if you feel fine. You WILL need monitoring. MAKE SURE YOU'RE VERY FAMILIAR WITH WHATEVER DEVICE YOU USE TO ADMINISTER YOUR MEDICATION. When you get to Pattaya spend the money and consult with someone like Dr Belen. Last I heard she was on 2nd Road near Soi 6. I could be wrong. Use the search feature or post on the forum for updated info. She's a Swiss(I think) doctor who could probably give you info or suggestions on where to go, etc... if you react. If you do that get a prescription from her for an injector or inhaler should you need one. Find out where to get more injectors if you use or lose what you bring, i.e. Boots Pharmacy or at a hospital pharmacy. Make sure it's the "Adult dosage" version(.3mg). Check expiration date. Even one out of date is better than nothing at all. Fresh fruit in the morning. Buy cereal and milk and keep it in your refrigerator. Breakfast covered. Lunch or dinner. Prepare it yourself if you can. Plenty of grocery stores to stock up. Find places where you can watch the food prep, i.e. Captain's Table BBQ at the Residence Garden. A "pizza only" place like the one on Soi Diana near Soi LK Metro might work. No matter where you eat you should assume that there were peanuts in the wok just before your food was cooked. Look at the entire menu and if there's even the slightest hint that anything contains peanut products walk away. Don't bother trying to explain your condition or concerns to anyone in a restaurant. No matter how much they say they do they won't understand and, I assure you, they won't care unless you die before you pay. Even then, if they can get their hands in your pockets before your "he dlunk mak mak" ass is hauled away they'll be happy but still won't care. You will NOT see any signs indicating that peanut products were used, or not used, in food prep. Even if you did see it you shouldn't trust it. TIT. Some cooking oils might be a blend, with pnut oil in it without the preparer even knowing it. Avoid the smoke from the cooking woks/griddles of street vendors if you're highly reactive. As odd as it might sound, if you're fucking around with a Thai girl make sure she wasn't eating peanuts before you stick your tongue down her throat. Think about it. All common sense stuff. You can do a trip safely as long as you prepare for any and all contingencies.

Yeah, the polar bear and lions have slaughterhouses to do it for them. The really funny thing about the OP is that somebody actually fucked that beast in order for it to bear young.
-
Stomach turning, but funny. Ahhh, makes me think of a gf's mother(hot) whom I could've fucked with everyone's approval. I'm still kicking myself.

Another option for about the same price is EVA Air out of Newark(EWR). The best thing about it is that both AMTRAK and New Jersey Transit trains make stops right at the airport. The only problem is late night arrivals on the return. I solve this with an inexpensive room(w/shuttle service to airport) booked through Hotwire.com and leave the following morning on Amtrak to go home. For even more schedule options(Amtrak stops at EWR are infrequent) take Amtrak to NEWARK Penn Station(not to be confused with Penn in Manhattan) and take the very frequent NJ Transit trains to NEWARK Airport(EWR). The cost of taking the train(s), round trip, from my hometown to EWR is less than the cost of parking at, or a taxi to/fro, my local airport. And, it's more relaxing. Especially with the "Bar Car".
