  1. Franko Compare the cost and cover between BUPA-Blue and what you can buy in Australia. I do not know what the Thai policies cover you for but the starting cover of 300,000 baht on their web site is not enough. In Aus ACE Ins and Accident & Health International have good covers. They are travel policies but you can reduce the travel component to a minimum and get $1,000,000 or unlimited dollars medical cover. Don't go through a travel agency but get a General Insurance Broker to check out the market for you. I am a Broker so if you want to PM me your details, name, address, when travell
  2. Welcome Jamozz The transport & accommodation questions have been answered pretty well. I would just like to add that out of the islands Koh Chang is hard to beat. If you have the time its well worth a visit. You can choice you accomodation from a cheap bungalow on the beach to an upmarket hotel. The snorkelling is excellent and its worth a trip inland to see the forest and the water falls. I am certainly going back again. In regards to food I get tired of thai food all the time so I always stock up at a local supermarket with bread, margarine, spreads, cheese etc so that when I cannot f
  3. Gotta agree with Krowdon, not a lot of thought has gone into this guys plan. Thai property laws being what they are he has not got a chance of getting the $400,000 back. Just trying to send this amount back out of the country is near impossible. He should have just paid up. If he is capable of earning $15900 a month it would not have taken him long to recoup his loss. Sounds like he will have a nice long stay in jail
  4. Hi Vanilla. Don't know of any myself and it looks like a lot of the members of this board don't know either. Try the thaivisa forum. More members and focused more on Bangkok. Web site below. http://www.thaivisa.com/ Good Luck.
  5. Rex A shell is just that. A basic one say bought of the plan gives you 4 walls and you fit it out as you like, eg floor tiles, cabinets, bathroom fittings the lot. If you have local contacts or the time to do it yourself its is the cheapest way to get into the market.
  6. accyboy. Don't really know where to start as buying property is up to the individuals choice. I own a Studio condo in Viewtalay 2 and I am very happy with the purchase. Its been rented 100% of this year and I have even had to rent another condo this coming trip as mine is taken. But no problem because the rent from mine covers what I will have to pay. I will PM my friends email address who is in the Real Estate businness in Jomtien and he will have a lot more answers than me.
  7. Bid D, I just sent you a PM, let us know what you think. Is Viewtalay at the Nth end of Jomtien to far out of down for you?
  8. Jack, as Sunny said. My Mate buys Condos of the plan and has a team of tradesman and either 1) Fits them out with his standard specs and furnishings or 2) Fits them out to his customers requirements. Plus he has just obtained all the licensing and whatever else he had to do and has opened a his own real estate office. His website is under construction so I cannot give you a link yet. I will PM you his email address and you can have a chat to him. Just tell him Colin from Sydney gave you the address.
  9. I always travel with my wife and 3 year old daughter. To many Restaurants to mention. I spend hours at Jomtien Beach with my daughter plus in the Pool at the Condos. Plenty of sight seeing trips, check out the Buddha mountain (don,t know what its real name is but lots of temples and a Buddha image carved into the side of a mountain). Plus I always manage to get out for drinks with my mates occassionally. You will have a great time.
  10. Jack Some good info from Sunny. I will not go over whats been said but will say I prefer Jomtien to live at and Pattaya to party. Jomtien is not as hectic and and it would be pleasant riding a bike down the beach road but if you handle 30 miles easily you will run out of road quickly. I bought a Studio Condo, 42 squares metres, 18 months ago in Viewtalay 2 for 1.1M and similiar Condos are now going for 1.3M. I am comfortable with this outlay and in the future if things go wrong, so be it, but I am prepared to take the chance. Plus its been rented 90% of the time and returns me 8% after expen
  11. I am glad a few others do not agree with Bigmike concept of time. I must admit at Songkran and New Years Eve it has taken longer than 10 minutes but then all of Pattaya is jammed up at these times. Anyway neil let us know what you decide on.
  12. neil I cannot comment on Honey inn, don't know the place but I can highly recommend Viewtalay, especially Viewtalay 2. Good Pools, good rooms but this does depend on the condo owners taste. Its a short walk from Jomtien Beach, has some Bars across the road and its a 10 minute baht bus ride to Sth Pattaya. That is as long as you don't mind having me as a neighbour at Xmas time.
  13. A friend of mine lives in pattaya and has his local Australian Bank statements sent to my home address. He has told me never post a replacement credit card to him as it will not arrive. We wait until somebody is going there and personally deliver anything important.
  14. neil. Check out this site, the apartments meet your criteria but do not know if they have anything available. Good Luck http://www.freewebs.com/condospattaya/
  15. Would advise against staying that end of Jomtein Beach. The Baht buses will not go that far, you would definitely need your own transport. The drive North travelling the length of Jomtein Beach takes 10 to 14 minutes, then over the hill to Pattaya say another 10 minutes. With traffic it could take you 30 minutes to get into Sth Pattaya. A few years ago the family and I stayed in some cabins for 2 nights within 100 metres of where the road turns inland from the Beach. The family booked it not me. At night completely dead, nothing except the restaurant at the corner which is a good restuarant.
  16. Thanks Rabbitoh, it will be worth the trip and some sightseeing just to check it out. I am sure my wife will find something to bet on.
  17. Thanks Rabbitoh. I might just turn up and hope for a room. Is it straight forward getting a Cambodian visa. I am Australian and my wifes Thai but holds dual passports, Thai & Australian. The rooms for me as my wife is genetically driven to gamble all night or until the money runs out.
  18. Thanks Leo Tex. I found that site before posting. Its the only reference on the net that I could find. It tells you that they have 100 room but when you go into the reservations section the hotel cannot be located, which is not a very promising start.
  19. In January I plan on taking a trip to the Casino on the Cambodian border at Surin / Asmech. The net has some details about a Hotel attached to the Casino. It tells me its called Casino O Samet Hotel and has 100 rooms but thats all. Has anybody any info, either first hand or a website that they might know.
  20. Hello Gabor Why don't you contact Derek, the guy you bought you Condo off in building B. I am sure he could help you out or know somebody with units to sell. PM me if you want his email address. Good luck, if I had some extra cash I would buy one the same as you are after.
  21. Have a look at www.freewebs.com/condospattaya/ Nice Condos at the Nth end of Jomtien, about 10 minutes from Walking St by baht bus.
  22. Wiggly Never stayed in Viewtalay 1 but Viewtalay 2 is good. My comments are the same as the other guys. Jomtien suites me, I like the area, the Beach and there are a few local bars all within walking distance. When I want a night out I jump a Baht Bus for Pattaya which takes about 10 minutes. Have a great holiday.
  23. Roland. Why would you flame a guy for making a geniune enquiry. I think Torrenova's reply is very restrained. I would have just told you to get stuffed.
  24. Alien. I have sent you a PM. Let me know if your interested.
