I was relaxing under the shade of the tree and my "mechanic" came to tell me to get my massage. After two hours of extremely relaxing massage I waited while she came back with my coffee looking troubled. "JR, can You pay me xxxx baht upfront for the massages, I need money quickly." "Problems ", I asked, "if You need that so quickly ?" "Police here and they want me to pay them now for being allowed to work on the beach." I thought what the hell and paid upfront. After some minutes I rose and went for swimming. When coming back after a splash I checked the beach and yep, brownie boys were there behind a table and having persons "visiting" them. The answer to your question is a qualified yes. The longer lead time you give them for your departure date the easier it is to get the dates you want.

I used 60K miles for all my Asia trips except when UA was running 40K deals. BTW I wanted to extend my vacation by a few days. Do Bangkok taxi/limo drivers from the airport generally find Pattaya hotels easy? It's a real crap shot. First time down I took a expensive car service from the airport (not Alex) and the driver didn't speak English or know Pattaya. He wouldn't stop for directions. We wandered around aimlessly for it seemed like an eternity.

I've seen decent laptops at Best Buy for $700USD. Brand new in the box. Many products in the US are way cheaper then in other countries including the country they are made in.

My pal ROLAND in another thread wanted to know if I knew a guy who ran a taxi service. Man O man I sure do. My somewhat reliable Alex. For me he always has shown up on time with a clean newish Honda. Some guys have had a different experience with Alex where he hasn't show up. Totally uncool. The day I leave for LOS, I email him and remind him I'm coming. I do the same for my hotel. Alex is but one way to get to Pattaya and guys have used other services with pretty much the same results. Sometimes the bastard doesn't show . This is Thailand. You guys ever hear about the baht buses that run all over Pattaya? Work real well espically if you give them 10 baht. Soi 8 and 2nd Rd if you catch the light about 3 minute ride. About the same distance and time to Royal Garden if the traffic is light.

Royal Garden shopping center and Big C have ATM machines. Both are close to soi 8. Many banks in Pattaya. I carry debit card only. I had my bank get ride of the credit card side. If you lose your card or it's cloned credit card side can drain your account and they don't need a pin #.

I would bring the older laptop and forget about buying a computer in LOS. Prices are higher in LOS and you will take a big hit trying to sell off your nearly new computer.
