The room I stayed in had a telephone. If I remember correctly all calls went thru a central switchboard.

Delay in opening new airport should not impact the non stop BKK to EWR/JFK. Only a couple of weeks ago PM said there would be no delay, now he looks like a chump with huge loss of face!!

I'm looking to share a ride to the airport. My flight to PI leaves at 1:25PM. I have a bit of flexibility in departure time from Pattaya.

I told you guys back in May that with gas at all time highs that the prices would be going up. Now it's September and the prices are still going up. I plan on booking my March trip in the next couple of days.

If your bring your family to Pattaya don't stay in Pattaya. Stay in Jomtiem at the Pattaya Park Beach Hotel. Your away from the night life and the hotel has a water park for the kids and your wife won't be shooting If you are comning from BKK tell your driver to get off at the Jomtiem exit off of Sukminvit Road and you will miss all the naughty bits of Pattaya. What did you pay for the flight? I like SQ and Newark is less then 2 hours away from Philly. Only thing I don't like about SQ, the cheap tickets don't earn frequent flyer miles. From what I understand, Thai is supposed to fly JFK to BKK nonstop next year.

No you can't book a cab in advance. You can book a private car in advance. If you book a car do it about two weeks in advance and then the night before you leave email the service to remind then your on your way. Check the meeting and cost sharing section for a variety of car and driver services available. I use Alex and have been pleased with his service. Other guys have not been pleased. Remember this is Thailand and your mileage will vary with these services.

FWIW and sometimes it can be worth alot of money. I'm 57 years old and was born in 1946 at the start of the baby boom. Millions of guys from the US, Canada, UK and Europe are starting to retire with the largest monthly pension this planet has ever seen. Fairly large % of these guys are single and looking for a younger better looking women that they can retire with. Thailand fits the bill for life on easy street where your pensions buying power is at least double and in some cases damn near triple of what you get back in your home country. Good quality medical care is available and it's CHEAP. These guys if they market it right stand the chance to make a lot of money if they target the guy who has never been overseas and needs their hand held. Guys on this board and BKKTONITE.com don't need this service but millions of other's DO.

For the first time visitor it's not a bad deal. If it's legitimate. Hotel looks good as long as it's not in Rayong.

ROLAND, I was on a short trip to the land down under with the wife. Many good suggestions on how to get to Pattaya. In the Meeting Section check the reliable car and driver posts. I've had good luck with Alex. Some guys were not so happy others were. This is Thailand your mileage may vary with any of these services.

You guys better buy them at the airport 7-11 as the service stations are going to close at midnight.

I don't know where the hi-so crowd hangs out. I doubt it's in Pattaya as this town is not a typical Thai town. This town is full of whores, thieves and con artists looking to fleece the falang. Do you speak excellent Thai, drive a new BMW? Live in a big house located within a gated community? Work for a large foreign company with a big expat package? If you do I want to be your houseboy/bitch. Just kidding. The reason I ask unless you have all the things listed above. You can forgetaboutit. There is no entry into the hi-so crowd for you or me.

Customs area doesn't have ATM but they do have money exchange machine that sometimes work. Good rates.
