  1. Have a family member who is looking at buying a condo in Pattaya or Jomtien, he found one in a condo building named Pattaya Klang. Does anybody know anything about this building? They live in upper Issan and is looking for pro's and con's before making the trip. TIA
  2. Actually the police officer was very friendly and never mentioned anything regarding a tip, he handled the situation very well.
  3. Thanks for the advice and I would normally agree with you however this was a spur of the moment trip and I checked into the hotel at noon. The taxi was also not from Pattaya and had no idea where to stop, that was my wife telling him via mobile phone regarding the area, hotel was just a random pick.
  4. I'm sure there was a misunderstanding somewhere and that was why I offered to pay additional for my children. The manager/owner mia farang I'm guessing, refused. In return she lost all the revenue on a night where there were very few customers, if any. Makes no sense, we were checking out in five hours anyway.
  5. Why not just purchase a ticket with an open return? might be a bit more expensive but it's gonna cost either way you look at it.
  6. I have traveled to Pattaya many times and stayed in many different hotels but staying at a guesthouse was a first time experience for me. I arrived early in the morning and my wife and daughters were coming later in the day. I decided that since my children were on this trip that I would look into a room in Jomtien. The taxi suggested I try a guest house and drove me to a place called Stepan's guesthouse soi 4 Jomtien. I told the Thai lady which is also either the manager or mia farang to the owner that I needed a room with two beds because my wife and two daughters were enroute. She s
  7. I also just finished with a painful corn that I've been trying to get over for about a year. Wife wanted me to do the hospital gig as well but instead visited a local pharmacy and was given a small bottle of medicine, a week later it was gone...Cost...45 baht! Medicine is called Con Con....Works great!
  8. Even better when I entered Thailand, immigration at the airport failed to give me a departure card and I didn't even think about not having one. I searched on line and was told I could just obtain a new one at immigration and there should be no charge.....Again they charged me 200 baht for a new one..... of course with NO receipt. I have been here for three months and it seems like I get conned on a regular basis......I understand the reasoning it just seems a little unfair and a poor way to treat a visitor in their country. If people could only treat other people with respect it would be
  9. So....Yesterday I went to my local immigration office to obtain my retirement extension. I had all the required documents and the officer informed me the cost was 1900 baht w/receipt AND....He requested an additional 2000 baht for what he called an investigation. He said an investigator would come by and check my residence to make sure that I was living at the address I used on my paperwork. It is my home and where I live but he made sure to tell me that if the investigator couldn't confirm the information that immigration would cancel my extension. He also noted that it was only for the f
  10. Not sure if this is the best place to post, admin please move if needed. I have my military pension check each month direct deposited into an American Express Bluebird account and would normally withdraw funds via an ATM in Thailand. Today I received an email from them saying effective today Jan 6 2016 you can no longer use this card at ATM's outside the United States. They did say it could still be used for purchases but no cash. Problem I will have now is trying to locate another good source for my direct deposit. I closed my bank account in America due to the fact that I had no bills i
  11. Flew with them last year and that will be the last time I fly with them. First they booked us with a connecting flight in Beijing knowing full well that connection was impossible. The connecting flight departed an hour before our arrival. They sent us by a packed van to a shitty hotel in the middle of nowhere with a free buffet that was so disgusting my dog wouldn't eat it. Lost an entire day of our vacation and they wouldn't even offer an apology. The service was crap, the plane was crap, the food was beyond crap. Even the other Asian passengers were hard to deal with. Who the fuck drinks
  12. That's what I needed to know, thanks guys for all the help!
  13. The wire is $50.00 but I was more concerned about the exchange rate difference. If I can exchange cash in country for 32 baht and the bank only exchanges at 30 wouldn't that be a better deal? Just not sure how this all works.
  14. The family and I are leaving on Tuesday for a 30 day holiday in Thailand, the wife has been saving money due to the fact that she wants to buy her dad a used pick up truck while we are there. I checked with my bank about wiring funds to her moms account and the fee's were pretty darn expensive. I would like to save all the extra fee's and just take the cash with us, about $10,000 US. I understand that most banks here no longer sell Travelers checks and I'm not sure about carrying that amount on my person. Does anybody have any ideas about what the best way to do this would be? Thanks f
