Well, the police came around with "the letter" at the end of the night of the 4th, giving all the bars "plenty" of time to let their staff know whether they were going to be open or not the next working day. The half-dozen bars and gogos I contacted in the WS area plan to be closed tonight. It appears the police letter makes a strong request that alcohol not be sold and that bars remain closed today, but as far as statutory order, it is not a legal bar closure day as far as I can tell. Anyone choosing to disobey the 'request' might find themselves getting trouble for other issues...and there is always something they can get you on. My guess is that a small number of gogos will chance opening, many beer bars will open quietly, and it will be just a quieter night than normal, but not a full closure. Nothing new there. Incidentally, FLB will be closed.

It's sort of a lose-lose for pedestrians. Now that they have the ped crossings, drivers feel quite justified in honking and nearly running down people crossing outside them, while at the same time, not stopping for them when the peds have a green light. It's going to take a while to get working. I do note that when, and if, the lights are obeyed, it's going to worsen the traffic flow immensely, all over town where they are installed.

What are the names of the other 3 besides Champagne and The Office? Are you counting Oasis, even though it is not on LK Metro?

If the visa expires before you leave the country, you can't get a reentry permit on that extension, but that's not the question. Anyway, if you leave before the extension expiration and return before the extension expiration without a reentry permit, it is voided on the return date to Thailand, and certainly not BEFORE you leave! I'm not even sure how you think they could be cancelling/voiding visas BEFORE you leave? What if you miss your flight?

For your first paragraph question, your reentry permit expires on the day of your extension expiration. If you leave without a reentry permit, you come back as a 30 day tourist. As to the second part, I don't know, but I'd guess you have to do it all over again.

I keep hearing this is an American or Yank board, and based on Google statistics, about 1/3 of our traffic comes from the Americas, and the rest is European, Asian, or Australian. I just browsed today's top 20 posters, and 4 of them were American, and the rest were from elsewhere. The top 5 were UK guys, but that was mostly bickering in Purgatory that skewed the numbers. I don't know how you and Hammer do it without the risk of actually losing money on the deal. The 200b pays for a spot in a fully loaded minibus. Full bus = break even. Less than a full bus is a loss, isn't it? I think the guys who meet up should divvy up the cost of the bus when they go.

By the way, the reason I mentioned Nakhonchai was because 407 doesn't go to Ubon Ratchatani, and that's where I'd be going. Unfortunately, you are right, Nakhon doesn't have a convenient Pattaya pickup like 407.

Sounds like an interesting visa run. I'm looking forward to the report. I'm reading a book now that takes place in Bombay, "Shantaram". If you ever want a good read, this book is turning out to be one of my favorites. Unfortunately, it takes place in the 90's, so a few things may have changed!

No way will FLB be anything other than an evening bar. I have one shift of staff, I like them, they work a decent shift. I'd not want to add another shift. If you want 24 hours, you can find it somewhere...maybe not in the same place, but there will be bars open. I personally doubt there is anything to this petition, nor will it happen.
