It might be true that if you book with a booking agency such as atsiam, that the discount is higher. I think you might also have to pay for your entire stay in advance through them, but I'm not sure. That's not the case with this special rate. I essentially requested a booking agency rate, but didn't want to guarantee X number of room nights and also cover no-shows myself, so the FLB rate is probably a little higher than they would charge.

For those of you who want to live somewhat luxuriously for your stay in Pattaya, you can book at the LK Metropole at a reduced rate by asking for the "FLB Rate". It's still a pricey hotel, and not for the budget traveller, but many board members have and are staying there. So, I thought, why not see if we can get a discount based on our combined patronage? For some reason, I couldn't get a break on weekly rates, so they are not shown below. But the daily rate is discounted about 25% and the monthly rate is discounted about 10%. These rates do not include breakfast, but the majority of us are seldom up for breakfast anyway. Pattaya is quite busy and everything is open especially late on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. It's a giant party everywhere. Remember, this is a non-Christian country, so nothing is shut for Christmas.

You can smoke there, but they charge you 500B each day they smell smoke in the room. They do have a small balcony outside of each room that is adequate for smoking if you want.

I'm in the 50% search group...about half my trips I get a luggage search. Several trips ago, I got the full computer, PDA, cell phone, USB memory stick search. It took 1.5 hours and they were pretty annoying about it, especially since I had forgotten to bring my AC adaptor for my laptop and they were running searches for movies and pictures on it, viewing the pics, movies, etc...asking me "Who is that?" for every female. They told me if my computer ran out of power before they finished searching, they'd confiscate it and send it to the lab. Welcome home, eh? Make no mistake, they were not looking for drugs or contraband. It was a "morality violation" hunting expedition, well outside the scope of custom's duties, IMHO. But, the last two trips back to the US, I've been waved through. Maybe they're getting lazy.

I thought you were practicing learning Khmer, not Thai. Good response that! Actually, I am testing if Thai characters are working on the board, because for some reason, dave_boo's signature isn't coming out right. I think it might be because we updated databases and foreign script support (unicode) isn't working the same way as the prior version of the database. To check this, I'd probably have to go find an old message that has Thai characters in it. Might just do that someday.
