I wonder when this goes into effect and how this is going to be enforced? I live less than a km away from Marine Plaza, and for the last year or so, the standard M/C taxi price seems to be 40 baht...up from 30 baht a few years ago. Last week, I engaged a M/C for hire from near Soi Diamond in the wee hours, and on arriving at the destination 3 minutes later with no traffic, I gave him 40 baht. He held his hand out and said "fifty baht". I shrugged and said "40 baht is the price". He grumbled and went on his way. I can't wait to put 25 baht in his greedy mitts and see how that flies. Of course, I'll be secretly videotaping the whole encounter so that when I'm recovering in the hospital, I can be satisfied that he'll be facing a 5000 baht fine. USA team did better than most expected. . I'm proud of their progress. . This might get more interest in the game back there. I do think this was the best of the round of 16 I've seen. Both teams played well, and I'd like to see Belgium make it to the semi-finals over Argentina. De Bruyne was great to watch as he tried so many times to get past Tim Howard. . And finally did. And tonight, for me personally, is the big "what if" match....what if USA beats Belgium and goes to the next level? I was going to take last night off but ended up watching Germany v Algeria...a very exciting match indeed. So, another sleep deprived night and then a break for two days to try to recover the ability to sleep at night again.

I've spent a few nights on Soi LK recently after the first football match finishes. I've enjoyed Showgirls and Amethyst for the quality of the girls in both. No bar fines, but decent possibilities when my monger friend gets around to going there. Lady Love is good too, but with all the ex-FLB staff there, I'm rather constrained in my freedom of behavior. I'm taking tonight off from football..France v Nigeria, Germany v Algeria...I'll catch them on the news, and save my energy for tomorrow night's matches. Looking ahead, more matches are going to be starting at 2 or 3am (more than 11pm) here in Thailand, but at least there are a few non-playing days to get other things done during the daytime.

I live in South Pattaya, and use the Shell station on Pattaya Tai when I have to. I always check the meter, and my change when filling up now...they make a business of cheating. Maybe the NCPO can clean them up too!

Are you referring to Mexico or Chile? Chile went to penalty shots and lost by 1 against Brazil. Mexico lost to Robbens theatrics, some might say. Then again, I'm exhausted from these all night football matches...so I might have it all mixed up.

What a battle between Brazil and Chile! I'm exhausted just watching them play through two extra times. Chile gave it a good try, and with Howard Webb's phantom handball call, Brazil was denied a 2-1 score in the second half. For his sake, it's a good thing Brazil won, because he was a marked man if they didn't. Edit in.. After arriving home and seeing the close up shots and the repeat of the event, Howard Webb did get it right. That still wouldn't have helped him if Brazil had lost...just like Suarez didn't bite if you're from Uruguay.
