  1. It depends on how your competence is compared with thai aerodynamics engineers - if you're on the same level you can expect to get same salary as a thai + you will have problem getting work permit and visa. If you're a specialist it's different and the same if you work for an international group sending you to Thailand. Else you have the last alternative - teacher. Thai salary maybe 15,000 - 30,000 baht.

  3. I've a TG gold card and can sit in the first class lounge in Copenhagen regardless of what ticket I've as long I travel with a Star Alliance member. In BKK I've access to the biz lounges. A friend of mine worked some years in London got a Diners card and had free lounges in both Copenhagen and LHR.
  4. Maybe best you ask your lawyer to check with the land office how they apply the law in such cases, so you not will have problems in future. Note that different land offices don't interpret the law the same way, for instance many land offices don't accept if thais just own 51 % in a company which wants to register land, I've heard 60-70 % in some cases.
  5. Googled and found this: By law, a foreigner is allowed to be his/her souse's executor. All non land properties, legally allocated in the will van belong to any national. However in the matter of land, the law allows to foreigner to legally take possession of the land only for a period of 1 year during which the foreigner must either transfer deed to a Thai national, or set up a company which controls the land. But, in practice, the Land Office usually allows the foreigner to process it only for a short period. That might cause trouble when transferring ownership to a new buyer. It is strongly recommended that foreigners should sell the land within 180 days after getting possession to avoid difficulty in transferring ownership to a new owner. Source I've also heard about the 40 million investment giving the right to own 1 rai, but never heard of anybody doing it. Either that law is not completed or they forgot to change the Land Code, so the land offices will not give you the right anyhow. It seems stupid to invest 40 millions to own a small land, in that case it's better to put as much money you need in a company instead anf let the company own the land. "The Elite Card holders can also own land", but that's not correct you can buy the land but it's in fact owned by the company behind the EC.
  6. Better ask a lwayer, I think you can own the land a short time (months I think) but you must sell it, of course you do that to a family member. The best and safest way is to have a child who is thai citizen. As I mentioned in an other thread I've seen a land paper with a farang name on as a result of a bribe and of course it's completely worthless. Many both farangs and thais are making money to make smart solutions which are illegal in the end. It's always best to ask a lawyer and have him checking the papers before you pay the money.
  7. Father of TGF has registered several land areas in the name of her young brother who is 7 y o.
  8. Sorry kolobos, as far as I know even this against the Land Code, but with a thai wife you can have a Yellow Book of House Registration Certificate (Thor.Ror.13) but just for the house and not own the land Source
  9. Thai minors can own land and farangs can never own land. Thai parents often register land in the name of a son or daughter so there's no problem. Of course a child under 18 can't sign a legal document so a guardian must do it, I also guess that a father can't act both as guardian and leaseholder at the same time, probably you must involve the mother or an other thai family member for signing, maybe a judge can say OK instead. Contact a lawyer to help you arranging it.
  10. Above the agreed price for the extra I tip the girl - amount depends how good the service was.
  11. If you include the money I give the girl inside the room for the extra my total tip is at least 150 (maybe 250) for 2 hours oilmassage.
  12. 50 baht for thai and oil massage - but for oil massage I also give the girl some extra in the room as I always get something extra.

  14. My opinion too, no special racism against indians in Thailand. Actually there's a Little India in Pratunam (Bangkok) and you see more indians there than thais. I've friends from Bangladesh who often go to LOS and they never mentioned any problem.
  15. What I've heard you need a work permit also for this!

"In case of the bank statement, a letter of guarantee from the bank (an original copy) is to be shown as well." Source

    Thai Divorce

To clarify the company solution I copy a whole post by Gadfly1 from the other board which I posted a link to above: -------------- Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why not set up a company and buy the property in the company's name? Even if you are a minority shareholder in your own company but you appoint yourself the Gammagaan and Boorihaan you have all the control of the company and your wife will have none. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are risks with every structure. I actually prefer this method, but here are the problems: 1. Thai property law provides that if a Thai acts as a nominee to allow a foreignor, both the Thai and foreignor have committed a criminal act subject to imprisonement and the Land Department can force a sale of the property. If the Thai holder of preference shares - presumably with reduced voting rights - doesn't pay for her shares and you are the subject of a Land Department investigation, you could have problems. There are reports that several Farangs were givin the choice of going to prison or allowing themselves to be deported for violating these restrictions on land ownership and they lost their land. In at least one manner where I know the Farang, we are talking about an invesment in the area of US$500,000. Not fun. 2. Pre-signing a share transfer deed in blank is illegal. In his first round with the Constitutional Court, Thaksin got called on this. He got away with it, but will you? 3. If you have a company, you have the hassle of company filings. This is the land of red-tape. 4. But it doesn't stop with the Ministry of Commerce. If you have a company, the Revenue Department will insist that you start paying taxes after several years. There is no ideal solution. Just less worse solutions until Thailand adopts more realistic rules on land ownership. Don't hold your breathe.

Property yes, land no is the simple fact. Be careful if you build a house on the land which is registered on TGF/TW with a registered lease contract for 30 years. If the building isn't registered as your property, something interesting will happen after a divorce - you lease the land but have no right to stay in the house.
  21. There are some domestic flights from Chiang Mai directly to other places also - Phuket, Udon and some more, but far as I know just PBair has flights from Roi Et to BKK.

I expect that soon some will bring up companies and other smart solutions - read this thread from an other board and especially Gadfly1s posts.

A farang can never own land. I've seen a farang name on a land paper after paying a big bribe - it's not legal and worthless. The only way to own land is to become a thai citizen and that takes a long time. A safe way is you have children who are thai citizens - combine it with a registered lease contract with an option to renew it. If the lease contract is not registered it's just legal 3 years.
  24. Don't worry too much about guest-friendly or not in Pattaya. If hotel has different rates for single and double rooms it's a warning sign, so if you pay for double room you're almost sure not to pay a joiner's fee. If you pay for double room I think it's less than 10 hotels that charge fees for joiners. Maybe we shall start a thread for listing such hotels? In Bangkok however it's more complicated. If you book a double room they often want to have name of GF directly. I stayed in such a hotel in BKK and GF had to show her ID, but on the other side no protest or charge for bringing one of her bisexual GFs staying with us one night.
  25. Remember that most hotel employees in Pattaya don't have any computer skills, homepage is made by consultants and that girl answering emails before she has maybe moved to an other hotel.... So try to phone or fax instead - or use an internet hotel booking site.
