my nephew and his girl-friend are going to thailand in 2 weeks time (there 1st time!) where is the best place to get a taxi from don muang to the asia hotel in bangkok? (ive been going to thailand for 20 odd yearrs but for the last 10 years ive been picked up by the in-laws!) so basically i cant remember where to get the taxi from! i know there are loads of taxi-touts everywhere, so i dont want them to get ripped off as soon as they get there! if i remember its easier/cheaper from the departures area? or is there a booking booth in the air-port? and lastly honest! what will it cost them? i said about 250 ish baht? cheers guys! i told them about the airport bus but they wanna get a taxi!

personally i go on the beach for about 3/4 hours a day! (in the morning about 9 to 12ish) ill start off for a few days using protection 25 or even 30 then when i have a bit of colour i will go down to about spf 15 or maybe even 10 after a week or two. i love the sun! but ! in thai it can get mega hot! (im from uk mind you!) so i rarely (if ever!) sunbathe after 1 in the afternoon! and like the last poster says keep re-applying the cream! especially after swimming or if youre sweating your rocks off!ill be going again in october, i last went in march/april so it wont be as hot in october! april is a little too hot!

is that jimmy macs in soi 6? it does do a nice english brekkie! only trouble is if i go there at about 12ish i always end up going into one of the bars for a quick.................pint!

-
hi echster! is there any chance you could mail me a pic of rhe new seats please? cheers mate!
-
my mate has just booked two returns from bangkok to phuket he paid about 6,000 baht for the two tickets with nok air booked on-line.
-
great! only 10 and a bit weeks to go and i can sit in one then! cant wait!
-
bah! i couldnt book either seat 21d or 21g! so ive had to settle for 22d instead!
-
you are supposed to have a return ticket to get into thailand, but ive gone about 20 times and ive never been asked to show my return ticket.
-
i phoned up travelmood earlier on to pay the balance of my flight in october, i also asked for either seat 22d or 21 g! so hopefully ill get one of them! i also phoned up evas office in london yesterday (they answered straightaway! and were very helpful!... not like thai airways!) cos i wanted to see if i could use my wifes miles to combine with mine to enable me to up-grade! (you were right roland!!) and i couldnt! but the woman on the phone said that i could use 5,000 miles for an airport lounge pass? and seeing as ive got 12,000 miles expiring this year i thought id may as well use them for the lounges, anybody else done this? cos the woman on the phone said you couldnt book them and you had to ask at check-in? first off she said it was only for silver card holders then she said that i could use them as i was flying elite/ evergreen deluxe?
-
well ive never flown with them, but quite a few of my mates have and NOT ONE! of them has a good word to say about them! ie. long waits crap food and service and planes better now? etc. .. but saying that they are supposed to be better theses days? but i wouldnt fly them or any other eastern european air-line!
-
ive just booked evergreen deluxe (£685) witj travelmood for october 20th! im also hoping to up-grade to business as ive got 12,000 miles with them and so has my wife and daughter! so ill transfer their miles to my account and voila a one-way (hopefully!) up-grade! so i can check out the new bar i hope!
-
funny you should ask! i flew with them years ago! (about 20 years ago in my backpacking days!) and only last week i through out a diary of my trip in thailand! and for the flight it says! "good flight they kept feeding us!"! so make of that what you may! but please bear in mind it was 20 years ago! and that was from bangkok to amsterdam!. not much help to you i guess though!
-
right then! ive phoned up west-east travel to book evergreen deluxe on eva in october, but! im booked on the outward flight i want (october 20th) i want to come back on november 13th but its fully booked! so im wait-listed for november 12th! so i just phoned travelmood (thanks for the post cheshire tom!) and they can give me the dates i want !but for an extra £57.00! so! shall i book it? or try and see if i can get off the waiting list! really i should book it shouldnt i? (plus i get an extra day in los!) as i already missed the £888 promotion! so come on guys encourage me to book this and ill do it today! by the way, if i book it, i havent payed any money to west-east travel yet so im not doing anything wrong am i?
-
hi ive just been on eva-airs web-site and there is a piece about the new 777! seems there is a ceremony intaiwan today, apparently even economy seats have at seat tvs too! no inter-active demo as yet though!
-
well it looks like my feelings are the same as you guys! im gonna book eva from now on! ive flown thai for 4 or 5 years now and i went last march last december this march and i was gonna go with them in october ! but not now! and as ive said b4 i flew thai business going to bangkok in december and then again from bangkok to london in april and i wasnt impressed at all! so roll on evergreen deluxe! (and i found out only today that you get 125% miles in deluxe!?) so as tom says it looks like tom are really alienating their r.o.p. members by not allowing mileage accrual for every class of ticket! well thats it ! my ranting is over! cheers guys!
-
umm! forget that last post! i had a brainwave...and just phoned their london office! i think im losing the b****y plot!
-
hello ive just booked on eva to go to bangkok in october in evergreen deluxe, i normally fly thai and havent gone with eva since 2002. on checking their website ive got 12000 (ish!) miles which expire the end of this year, now! it says you can transfer the miles from other family members (my wife and daughter in this case) into your own account? if so i had a look and it says its 30000 miles for an up-grade? if so i guess i can just transfer the miles over? and if i can and even if the mileage i get 35,000 isnt enough at least i will get a hotel for a night free? so basically has anybody done this b4? and if so is it relatively simple ? eg a phone call? cheers in advance guys!
-
hmmn! might be interesting cos thai have stopped you accruing mileage on most econamy tickets, so i think ill staret flying eva again! then maybe ill use the miles i have left on the limos!
-
cheers for that echster! only another 3 months to go now!
-
well i phoned west-east today and you can get eva for £431 and thai for £456 , i booked evergreen deluxe for £631, only trouble is im ok going over on october 20 but im on the waiting list? for the return on november 13th! i KNEW!!! i should have booked the £888 special with them last week!
-
well ill give you my tuppence worth for what its worth! about 15 years ago i was renting a little "cafe" on the beach in samui. i didnt have any papers or permits etc but nobody bothered me! (cant see that happening nowadays!) anyway obviously i had to do the renting etc thru a thai girl (and no i wasnt involved with her or anything !- in fact she was a lesbian!) anyway i digress! she did it through a "cousin" of hers (so many cousins these thais!) it went ok not much custom though and i barely made any money as food and drink is hard to make any money on unless youre packed every night! anyway after a few months i knocked it on the head, i didnt really lose any money, but id never do it again as ,for one there is just so much competition, doing business with any thai (and im married to one and ive been going to thailand for over 20 years) is extremely frustating to any "farang", if you are foing to be "hands on its extremely hard work, you will need plenty of money and patience! but! of course there are plenty of farangs with successful businesses over there! so as i say its just my own humble experience and opinion! personnaly id rather either retire or semi retire out there and not have to rely on a business ,but the best of luck to you mate and if and when you get up and running ill pop in for a drink and eat my words! good luck mate!
-
so! the £888 special has finished? well thatll teach me for being a cheap charlie then wont it! so it looks like i wont be going business class then ! doh!
-
cheers for that tom ive still not booked mine for october yet! i phoned west-east last week and they want £467 (i think!) for that time! (ive still not convinced myself to get the £888 special with eva!) however my young nephew and his girlfriend last week booked emirates from thomas cook for £391 each in september , which looks like a good deal to me! i think ill hang on until the end of the month b4 i book though.
