  1. To all RideHer Cup Entrants I am creating a mailing list for all the entrants so that I can keep you all informed as the date of the event approaches. I would appreciate an IM from each of you giving me your handicap and e-mail address so that I can enter these on the spreadsheet. I will then distribute the spreadsheet to all the entrants as long as I have your permission to send out your e-mail address. If you do not want to have your e-mail address on the distribution list, please let me know and I will send your updates confidentially. I hope that you will all agree to being added to the distribution list as this makes life easier for me and you will be able to exchange mails with each other. Here is the current list of entrants and handicaps where I have them: Team USA Player H'Cap Grendel (Captain) Gammon Player 14 Gammon Player's mate Big Bear 24 Thumper 36 ff29 24 ff29's missus 30 Irishman Saigon Butterfly 18 Jimmybcool 7 BKK Bob 40 14 Dad Team Europe Player H'Cap Deuce (Captain) 15 Ben 36 Doggie 24 Ray W Golfer 36 The Big Swinging Dick Norwegian Steve O 36 Thai Dane 36 I am hoping we get more European entries as the date approaches. However, some of the Americans have volunteered to play for Europe if we are short. Please post or IM me if I have missed you off the list. I look forward to hearing from y'all. Cheers Doggie
  2. Jimmy I hope I see you on the Friday evening. I am now planning to arrive in Pattaya on the Wednesday evening so I might sign up for a golf day with the Haven or Lewinskis on the Friday. If you are playing that day, we might meet up on the course! Cheers Doggie
  3. Hi Saigon Glad you can join in - I will add you to the USA team when I publish the next update. I forget the tee colour but it was the middle tees - would that be the yellows? I look forward to meeting you. Doggie
  4. Some good ideas there Jimmy! I get into Pattaya on the evening of 28th so we can meet up on the Friday or Saturday. I usually frequent the FLB so the chances are that I will be there both nights. See you there. Doggie
  5. Eneukman I hit the North Sea from the long par 3 on the New Course - I think it is the ninth. I normally have a wicked slice so I aimed well left with a 3 wood towards the estuary to compensate for the slice and the wind. I hit the bastard as straight as an arrow for the only time in the round! I like the New Course for the variety of holes - it can be a bitch when the wind is blowing! Cheers Doggie
  6. Funny that.....it seems to be an infection that has spread to many other brands of new golf ball that I use. I even managed to put a brand new Titleist ProVI into the North Sea when the tide was out at St. Andrews (note the reference to St. Andrews for Gren's benefit)! It is a well-known fact that the golf balls you buy from the stalls in Thailand have been recovered from water hazards so there is no surprise that they head straight back there as soon as you hit them. Fortunately Deuce, the same affliction is not found in tatty old golf balls that I recover from the rough at our course - especially the ones that have been there for years and have been chewed by the foxes. I will be pleased to help improve your game by swapping some of your brand new Nikes for some of the auld tatties in my golf bag when we meet. They've never been near a lake in their life so you should be safe! Cheers Doggie
  7. Jimmy Your post is spot on! I have had one or two e-mails enquiring about the cost and expressing some concern that it is higher than seemingly equivalent events. The price is set by Ben and Pete - I only organise the golfing side on the day and collect the scorecards. However, I asked Ben to post more information about the package so that everyone knows what they are getting for the price. I came to the same conclusion as you. 4000 Bht is quite a bit more expensive than other golf days but there is more in the box. The buggies, caddy tips and transport are included. It is also not realistic to compare with the Misty's day because it is a different course and we are talking high season. If your conclusion is that the golfing, buffet and transport elements price at about 3300, I would go a little bit lower at about 3000. This leaves about 1000 per head for prizes and investment at the party. The big secret of last year's success was the party. We used the surplus to tank the girls up with Tequilla and then moved them on to shooters. Ben kept the drinks rolling down their necks all night and the result was a bar full of pissed bar girls with no inhibitions! Many people commented that it was the best party of the year. I am fine with 4000 Bht for the event and the party and will be happy to pay this price again. I also had to pay an extra 500 Bht in a bar fine for a Eropean team member 'cos I had to play for the losing USA team. But, as Ben knows, I am no stranger to paying other people's bar fines! Given the high number of entries so far, this is looking like a great event this year. I can't wait! Doggie
  8. Jimmy I will pencil you in for the USA team. 7 handicap eh - then you should enjoy playing foursomes with one of the 36 handicappers. This will ensure that you visit parts of the course you never went to before! And you are blaming the Brits for an unrealistic handicap - last time I was playing at Lewinskis it was a Yank that was running the shop. Have things changed? Please let your Brit friend know he is welcome to play for the Europe team. If you don't, I'll just have to hunt him down when I get there! BKK Bob - I'll put you on the list. Glad you can make it this time. So revised teams are: Team USA Grendel (Captain) Gammon Player Gammon Player's mate Big Bear Thumper ff29 ff29's missus Irishman Jimmybcool BKK Bob Team Europe Deuce (Captain) Ben Doggie Ray W Golfer The Big Swinging Dick Norwegian Steve O Keep the entries coming in. The USA seem to be taking this seriously so let's see some more Europeans entering the event. Doggie
  9. RideHer Cup Teams Here's a summary of the players that have entered so far: Team USA Grendel (Captain) Gammon Player Gammon Player's mate Big Bear Thumper ff29 ff29's missus Irishman Team Europe Deuce (Captain) Ben Doggie Ray W Golfer The Big Swinging Dick Norwegian Steve O These are the players who have posted on this thread confirming their entry. There are still plenty of places - we will accomodate everyone who wants to play. I don't know whether Hilly and Mrs Hilly will be back by then but there will be a place for both of you. The event would not be the same without you! Please keep the entries coming in. The more players - the bigger the party! Cheers Doggie
  10. Golfer That's great news - we look forward to both of you playing in the Cup this year. Please ignore the hysterical postings by the USA captain. He is genuinely worried about the calibre of the European opposition and that is the only reason why he is trying to recruit outside the US borders. Of course, you must play for Europe. Inhabitants or citizens of any country that qualifies for entry to the Eurovison Song Contest are eligible to play for Europe plus any other non-USA golfers that Ian invites to join the team. I have evry intention of playing for Europe this year. This should be sufficient to give the USA the advantage they are looking for. See you guys in Pattaya! Cheers Doggie
  11. Well Joop - you have admitted to the crime! I think that you can be forgiven on the basis that you gave the trophy a very interesting year - the photos had me laughing my arse off. What did the main man do in Saudi that deserved a beheading? Adultery, brewing his own beer or something like that. We look forward to welcoming the trophy back to FLB Bar in time for this year's event. Cheers Doggie
  12. Golfer Great to hear that you will be back for the Cup this year. We hope that you will bring your two friends who were instrumental in giving the USA a good cuffing last year! ff29 I will add you and your wife to the list of players - great that you will be back and we wont tell your wife any tales from last year. :-X Ray You proposals regarding the 36 handicap look OK but it would not be possible to allocate handicaps based on the event itself. Because we are playing foursomes and four balls the individual scores would not be collected. I would suggest we take people's word but any clear banditry should be dealt with by an on-course handicap revision or modification of the cards when they are handed in (more difficult). I'll give it some more thought - I am not worried about regular golfers - just the maverick 36 handicapper who hits the ball like God!! Cheers Doggie
  13. Gammon Will do - hope your mate has a good time. If you are setting him up with a Katoey, suggest you leave it till after the RideHer Cup day. It's hard to swing well with a sore arse! Cheers Doggie
  14. Welcome back Thumper! Doggie
  15. Irishman Everyone is welcome to play in the RideHer Cup - newbies, beginners et al. There is no way that you will be a worse golfer than Ben! The accent is on having fun so the standard of golf is irrelevant. If you would like to play in the match, then we will be pleased to welcome you to one of the teams. I am assuming from your handle that you would like to be in the European team - please let me know if you prefer the USA! Don't worry about the handicap. If you have not played for years we will allocate you the maximum men's handicap of 28. Just remember that there is a bandit penalty - any handicap spoofers will be required to ring the bell in FLB on the Monday evening and that can be expensive! Just let me know before the event if you want a lower handicap or send me the gross score of any rounds that you play between now and the match. I look forward to meeting you. Doggie
  16. Ray Can you answer Bear's question about rental clubs please? Thanks Doggie
  17. Bear There are plenty of places available in the teams. We will accomodate all golfers that want to play in the event - there were 16 last year and we hope to beat that count this year. The USA and European teams will be decided on the Sunday night - November 2nd. There are a number of Australians who will be playing so we will invite them to join whichever team is short of "home" players. As long as you let me know in advance that you are playing, all you need to do is keep looking at the board for more details when we get nearer the date for the event. Ray and Ben will book the tee times about a week before the event so we need to have a good idea of the number of players by then. I will put you down as a 24 handicap for now - please let me know if that changes. I look forward to meeting you in Pattaya - glad you are making it and I hope you enjoy the RideHer Cup and the party after the match. It was a great day last year so I hope it will be even better this year. Best wishes. Doggie
  18. Ray Good to hear from you. I read your posts in the members section and it is great to hear that you have settled in so well. I look forward to catching up with you in October. Regarding the venue for this year's Cup, I am happy with whatever venue you and Ben decide is best. You are the best person to select the venue because you play the courses regularly and know the condition. I liked Kao Keow last year but there is no reason why we shouldn't select somewhere different this year. After all, the real Ryder Cup rotates around different courses so why not the Rideher Cup! I have been away for a week or so. Now that I am back, I will get round to posting the proposed rules for the cup. This will give players plenty of time to comment on them. All the best. Doggie
  19. Thanks for the pic Deuce. It's a great relief to see the trophy back where it belongs and ready to be presented to the winner's of this year's event. Doggie
  20. I seem to remember Steve O got a hole in one last year. In fact, he liked it so much he went back and played the same hole every day! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I'm sure you will be trying the same couse again Steve - hope they've trimmed the rough! :P :P :P Only joking mate - look forward to seeing you! Callum
  21. Saigon No handicap certificate is necessary. We trust players to declare their current handicap. Anyone that proves to be a bandit in the opinion of the other players will be required to ring the bell in FLB Bar at the party. You have all been warned! If this rule had been in force last year, there would have been one individual who would have been ringing the bell more times than Quasimodo! He knows who he is! Doggie
  22. Damn it Matt - I've been rumbled! I guess I'll be forced to play for Europe this time round. It was really tough last year saving all my bad shots for one competition but I managed it! Ambition this year is to get the ball past the ladies tee! St Andrews is great at this time of year - no wind and some sunshine. I haven't played the Old course but we've done the other 4 courses. If you are ever thinking of coming here, the 3 day ticket for unlimited golf (excluding the Old Course) at £110 is great value. I shot an 86 yesterday on the shortest course but that included a 10 at a par 3 - 7 shots to get out of a greeside bunker! These little bastards are impossible! See you in October! Cheers Doggie (Callum)
  23. Hi Randy Good to hear that you are going to play. I look forward to meeting you in Thailand. I am in St Andrews this week and I had a round today with two of your fellow countrymen from North Carolina. Great guys - a very friendly game! Please keep checking the board for more info regarding the event. Kind regards Doggie (Callum)
  24. Twistrip - thanks for the offer of a prize! Regarding last year's event, I was told that one of the most bizarre events was a 300 yard drive off the first tee by Dad who was claiming a 36 handicap! Then there was Matt's strike on a passing motorcyclist. If there is a prize up for grabs, we might manage to persuade one of the caddies to get her tits out for the camera - how many baht are you offering? Cheers Doggie
  25. Saigon I am not in favour of mulligans in the event but it would be interesting to get the views of other players. Last year, we played 9 holes as foursomes (hitting alternate shots) and 9 as fourball better ball. The four ball better ball format means that your partner can bail you out even if you duff your drive. In foursomes, you can really put each other in the shit but half the fun is playing out of the trouble that your partner put you in! An alternative for this year would be to play 9 holes as greensomes - where you both hit a drive and then select the best one. Then it carries on with selecting the best shot and both hitting from that spot. There would need to be a rule that each player has to have his/her drive selected on 4 holes. What do players think about this proposal? Doggie.
