  1. Passenger aircraft going off route tend to attract fighter aircraft. If you're saying that the aforementioned "fast air" intercept might do ISIS's job for them for the price of a couple of AAM's in that capacity then you're making a good point, however, if suggesting that Qatar will re route an A340 or suchlike in order to provide a supply of infidels for them to behead then I think it's far fetched at best. It is a perfectly feasible situation, but I think to be honest that pretty much any aircraft or airline from the Middle East could be at risk, simply because the players involved are a
  2. thanks for the replies fellas. I decided to install Avast free for Macs. It doesn't see to affect the running of the machine and it's like putting on a second condom, as my web mail has an inbuilt AV (Yahoo account) but it never hurts to have some extra protection. Cheers for the help.
  3. Hi, I would imagine the answer to be "of course it does, you fucking idiot" which is fair enough. If anyone can suggest a half decent Anti virus for the rather nice Mac Air I've just been given then I'd appreciate it. I'm still getting my head around all this "command" and "control" gumpf , I am not really a huge fan of Apple but the more I use this Mac air the more I like it. It's running the latest Yosemite OS update and Safari , if that helps. Also any pointers / info about the product would be appreciated, as it saves me googling / reading the manual. Cheers & virtual
  4. Fair play and nice one to 4niceight, picking up 7k baht for an hour and a half is a nice touch. Can't blame people for being skeptical though, especially in LOS and even more so in Pattaya (which, let's face it is scam central). Steamer, it's not something people boast about I guess, but if you want to hear how I was conned out of a few grand, I'll tell you, and I expect several more here will sympathise / identify with my situation. I took out an endowment policy in the early 90's and paid an interest only mortgage, the plan being the endowment (£55 pcm) will mature in 2016 giving me
  5. Well put Nightrider. Oh, and we all know how reliable and efficient the Thai postal service can be when it comes to sending cash anywhere, if, that is, anyone is stupid enough to do so.
  6. I call it being fucking ungrateful that a bloke takes his time to post a detailed report on quality food which some of us can afford and might enjoy, and all you can do is whinge about the price. Hungary is hardly renown for it's excellent cuisine and quality food exports now, is it?. (I'm being flippant). How can you accuse a portion of Spaghetti as being "lousy" when you haven't even been there or tried it?. Gabor, even if you put a report up that I don't agree with, I respectfully thank you for it and don't then go picking the minute details apart for the areas I disagree with.
  7. Saw this vid on youtube, the first strike of lightening made me jump probably more than him lol!. That was a storm front of some size, even by SEA standards. I remember back in 2011 I ended up "stranded" on Soi Photisan during an awesome few hours of rain (it flooded out Soi LK Metro, Bukhao and the underground car park of a nearby hotel where another mate had parked his car... he came back to find it had floated a few meters... ). Luckily for me I was at a friends house and ended up staying the night. didn't get much sleep cos the rain was horrendous (usually in the RP I've got a stead
  8. Thanks Evil, I absolutely love a well made, stone baked Pizza as well as a nice selection of Italian meats, pure heaven to me. Definitely on my "to do" list in the future.
  9. Anyone remember the guy who ran the "pattayalivecam.com" website, was it Peter Deiter ? I seem to recall he ripped people off with a discount card scheme back in the day. The live cams were actually very good, and if you go down Soi Diamond to where the Swiss Food Restaurant used to be on the left (walking toward 2nd rd about 15 yards up mounted under the canopy about 7 foot off the ground, from where it turns into a soi from the open area) I think there is still one in situe. I had a good look at it on my last trip, and for something that was installed in or around 1999 / 2000 it was a fa
  10. Ah, the engines being tight into the body, couldn't see them in the pics hence my question. It looks the typical Asian descent into a city, the one which we all love to see, lush greenery interspersed with some buildings. I really enjoy the pictorial reports you put up mate, often sitting with a cuppa and a pack of rich tea or digestives and browse through in an afternoon. Sorry of I forget to give you a greenie each time, but I'm usually too engrossed.
  11. great pics Firth. judging by the lack of visible engine nacelle on the wing I'm speculating at an MD 82 or 83 or an Ilyushin equivalent... could be way wrong though..
  12. Thanks Evil, a nice, honest report. The lamb looks nicely cooked, a slight pink hue in the middle. Good to see some venues maintain consistent quality over time. I've never had a bad meal in Tequila Reef, nor a bad Margarita for that matter.
  13. Yeah I heard you enjoyed "Aladdin" occasionally
  14. Dunno how I missed this thread. Brilliant Billions. One thing, WTF was going on in the first two pics?. Looks like a nasty scene was developing , averted by the Thais stepping in to stop another Thai and protect a farang. That was a nasty looking blade he had.
  15. Apocalypse now, Marlon Brando "Soon as I get home, first thing I'm gonna do is punch yo mamma in da mouth!"
  16. Goldpanner, that's a tale of abysmal customer service which everyone should be reading. I don't know what it is with BA, their CS stinks. we were "stranded" in the PI back when the skies above the UK closed due to the volcanic eruption. (It added 3 weeks on a 6 month break, so no big deal) but what got to me was the total lack of information for other travellers, apathetic Cabin crew and staff and a total disregard for the inconvenience caused when we got to HK. The irony being we had booked Cathay Pacific for our inbound and outbound, but it was a codeshare flight with BA. All credit to C
  17. Or even Terminator 3 when it's said by one guy on stage and later by Arnie himself.... Jacko...no idea mate, I refuse to use google for these quizzes .
  18. I honestly think some people have an odd concept of area. 20SqM is 4m x 5m (or multiples thereof). A Double bed (not king or queen) is 122 x 190 cm (1.2m by 2.0 m approx). 15 Sqm is about the size of the smallest bedroom in my house.
  19. Gabor, they are 4 and 5 star hotels. You can't compare a fucking 42 SqM condo to a 5 star hotel room. prices for a low season stay ,rather than peak. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotels-g293919-Pattaya_Chonburi_Province-Hotels.html 3 star hotel rooms, within budget and surprise surprise the smallest room being r0oms 28 - 32 SqM. Residence Garden offers 2 room suites. Ironic that the Condo's listed for the one month stay are more expensive than the hotels...I don't see your point, or in case you've just nicely disproved your own. Bottom line being, 42 SqM is not large in the
  20. Not without posting a page and a half of links and a 16 page .pdf file, no. Hotels, like condo's are built to maximize space, but go on Agoda and search any hotel room standard size from 1200 baht to 1800 baht and 80% will be 32SqM or more.
  21. Gabor, there are no 15 SqM hotel rooms in Pattaya. The Industry standard tends to be 32 SqM+. I never pay more than 1100 baht a night for a half decent hotel like the Sabai group, or maybe up to 1600/1700 if we stay at the LK. However, we really don't need or want to be making up the bed, washing our own dishes, I want to have the AC on full time and be in a reasonable location. That is our choice however, and because I can afford it, that's what we do. Any long term visitor or Expat should look at the Condo option if they are on a budget, of course that in itself is sound advice, not
  22. Hi Golfer. The reason they are so high is because despite the fact you're heading out in Low season in Thailand, it's peak season for the Airlines, that being the UK school holidays. It also depends upon the releases of seats. The airlines tend to release a number of seats per flight in a set period between 2 dates, say for example 1st July to 1st Aug. Initially the price for these seats will be discounted to get them sold, so you might pick up a seat during the promotion (for example, EVA Air recently promoted their seats between January to June 2015) fairly cheap. As the seats run out an
  23. Most hotel rooms (standard) are about 32 Sqm upwards. However, regardless of the size of your condo, there are many here who would prefer to live in a small condo in Pattaya than a 2 bedroom house in the UK. Having seen some of the Condo sizes in the Philippines, where a 25 Sqm Condo can be home to a whole family, I'd be a bit reticent about living in anything under 200Sqm on a long term basis if it was with my family (if I were alone it would be a different matter).
  24. Ahh one of my favourite John Candy films, Planes trains and automobiles. This might be tricky...but perhaps not. "It's an old story with me. I was born out of time". Here's a clue to help with resisting the temptation of google: It was subjected to a poor remake a few years back, and the original came in for some controversy as it featured a little girl getting shot dead.
