Excellent airline. I've used them a number of times for both trans-Pacific and short-haul flights. Never a problem. Evil -
Brooklyn Diner on Soi BuaKhao - UPDATED Jan. 12, 2015
Evil Penevil replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Restaurants and food
A brief update. Last night I had the bacon cheeseburger with fries at 210 baht. It was very good, no complaints on my part. Two beef patties, cheddar cheese and good-sized portion of back bacon on a nicely toasted fresh bun. I'm a big French-fry person, but these were crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, just as they should be. Quality beef, cheese, bacon and bun, better than you most often get in Thailand. I also liked that the tomatoes, onions and dill pickles can on the side so you can add as much or little as you please. I asked for my burger to be cooked medium and that's how I got it. Bottom line: One of the better cheeseburgers I've had in the 200-baht price class in Thailand. You can get better burgers in Pattaya, but they'll cost more than 200 baht. Evil -
Yes, really great pics. Thanks for the update! Evil

Rock the Sausage (2nd Rd & Soi Diamond)
Evil Penevil replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Restaurants and food
I hope I haven't become obsessed with sausages, but I did have another good German-style sausage meal at the Brauhaus Restaurant on 2nd Road near the corner of Soi 7. Rather than start a new thread for the sake of one quick meal, I'll include it here. I had the daily special (frankfurter with potato salad) for 155 baht. Both the sausage and potato salad were very tasty, no complaints at all. It's a full-service German restaurant that also serves a variety of Western and Thai dishes. Prices are modest and the restaurant features both indoor and outdoor seating. Bottom line: I'll be back to try more of the German dishes on the menu. Evil -
An odd set of circumstances put me at the Barbie Bar on Soi Chaiyapoon at 4.30 a.m. I was very hungry as I hadn't eaten for 16 hours. I remembered reading somewhere that the Barbie served food 24 hours a day. Since I was in the vicinity, I decided to give it a try. I have to acknowledge that I've never had any luck at extreme budget restaurants like the Sailor, Seaside or Golden Ferret, with the meals I've gotten at such places ranging from bad to inedible. I wasn't anticipating much from the Barbie, but was hoping I could stomach the food and wouldn't be puking in a few hours. Since my expectations were rather low, I can't say was disappointed with the pork schnitzel with a side of spaghetti at 170 baht. It was a a huge portion that included nine (!) slices of French bread. I managed o get down about half of it and didn't get sick. On a taste scale. I'd rate it about a C-. The spaghetti was what I call "institutional standard," the kind that is served at lunch in inner-city elementary schools; mental hospitals; prisons and homeless shelters. It is characterized by heavy use of tomato ketchup (and no other seasoning) in the sauce, but a small dish of ground Parmesan on the side to give it some flavor. The schnitzel was a bit schizoid. The pork itself wasn't bad at all- tender, moist and not too thinly pounded. But it was covered in the same sort of batter that is used for fish 'n chips, with the predictably icky result. The schnitzel, actually two large pieces, were topped with a vegetable sort-of ragout that was pretty damn tasty. If they had just served the pork with the topping and forgotten about the batter (I scraped it off as best I could), it would have gotten a B. Not a good meal, but I've certainly had much worse in Pattaya. One of the other three customers at the time, a drunk Norwegian, was doing an impression of Meagan Speakman and wanted me to critique his performance. Inside my head, I heard myself telling him he sounded more like Alvin of the Chipmunks than the Pattaya TV presenter, but I just smiled and said it was very good. Bottom line: In a pinch, I might go back to the Barbie Bar for another wee-hours meal, but I think I'll stick to something basic like a hamburger.

Last night Ouy, the owner, celebrated her birthday with a party at the WoknRok. It's probable the customers and staff of One More went to the party.V Evil -
Rock the Sausage (great name!) is a relatively new establishment on 2nd Road near the intersection of Soi Diamond that is devoted to German-style fast-food sausages. It's clean and well-lit, but a rather small place with only counter dining and minimalist stools for seating. I loved the bratwurst with sauerkraut on a roll for 119 baht, but in the future, I'll probably be doing take away. Yummy mustard, ketchup and mayo that they say is homemade. It tasted great, with high-quality bratwurst and sauerkraut. The only criticism I would have is that it could have been warmer.

A disturbing new trend..new to me at least
Evil Penevil replied to MM's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Silly string was intended as "spray confetti" at street parades and children's parties. It was meant to be sprayed in the air and to fall gently over people. What MM is objecting to is the gangs of guys who sprayed silly string and foam from point-blank ranges into the faces of strangers who happened to be walking past them. Getting silly string in your eyes is not a good idea and an an outright disastrous one for anyone who wears contact lens. There's a huge different between using silly string as it's intended and spraying it directly into people's eyes. There was nothing fun or funny about what the gangs of Indians and Middle Easterners were doing NYE on WS. I kept fantasizing about spraying them back with CS gas. Maybe a plan for next year? Evil -

Some more pics from the opening party. It was a pleasant evening. I already knew several of the guests, but some that didn't know me introduced themselves and began chatting. A very friendly bar! Evil .. -
I have on occasion had temporary problems using chrome to browse PT. Usually it's because of an update to either Chrome, Flash or Invision. The problem usually goes away on its own after a day or two when the appropriate patches have been installed. Re Chrome crashes: next time it happens, sent a copy of the event log to Chrome support or post it on one of the online forums a devoted to Chrome. They'll be able to tell you what's wrong. Evil

VTSix Condo Service at View Talay 6
Evil Penevil replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
There are many, many steps to the main entrance, but there's also a ground-level entrance through the parking garage. However, I wouldn't consider it handicap accessible. On the lower levels, the elevators are stuck in small rooms that have crazy raised thresholds. I'd advise you to take a look at Vt6 before booking there. Evil -

The TT booth on 2nd Road between sois 8 and 9 was accepting rubles last night. Russians with rubles were in line ahead and behind me. I have no idea what the exchange rate was for rubles, but it was 32.87 to the dollar. Evil
