Bonjour à toutes et tous, hoping you are having FUN...

....'cause I'm joining in on Monday (YESSS :D )

As It's my first time in Pattaya, could you help a Rookie put in his suitacase the right kind of clothes for a week ??

Apart from surf, golf (and good old "farniente" ) ) durin' the day, what are the dress codes like at night ?? just a bit of everything ? surfwear ? Business Casual ?

is it better to buy locally what you might lack ?

I'd really appreciate your advice so I have what I nned in most situations, without having to send my luggage ahead of me by boat !!

Thanks to you all, an' get the heat up : Will sooonn be here

Cheers

Pattaya is very casual. The only thing that bothers me is when I see a tourist without any type of shirt on inside a market or mall. I only wear shorts, t-shirts, and sandals 90% of the time. If I want to dress up a little I'll go shorts and shirt and on the rare occasion long pants and shirt. If I were you I wouldn't buy anything in your home country as you can buy anything you need at a fraction of the cost. Although the humidity is high and will cause you to make numerous changes during the day, don't worry about quantity of clothes as you'll have no trouble in finding a laundry near your hotel. Some tourist actually will travel to Thailand to buy their wardrobe and their savings will pay for a good portion of the trip.

Hi,

Agree with Emil. I've be going to Los for the last 5 years and I only bring a extra one of each, shirt, underpants and socks, this is so I can change when I arrive in BKK., the plane may be delayed or you might want to have a quick tour around the bars and you don't want to be to high after a long plane flight. Then you can get some shopping in, very cheap. I buy the clothes to last the next 10 months and at a fraction off the price than at home. I wear mainly shorts, t-shirts and sandels most of the time but at night I wear long trousers and socks, as the mossies etc. seem to like me. Also you can get good price suitcases, big one's, in Pattaya.

Most of all have a good holiday J you lucky bloke.

I go a different way.

I dont want to spend a lot of time shopping the less the better.

most of the clothes you see are cheap tat and will make you look cheap wearing them.

its shorts and t shirts during the day,and trousers and light weight shirts at night,

its hot so you can get through 3 changes of shirts a day.

laundry is cheap, just bring half a dozen shirts,

if you were going to stay a long time you will have time to do the shopping stuff

but you will eat into you soapys, bjbars massage time. fuck shopping

Good advice here.

My 2 centimes is pack only carry-on luggage so you don't waste time.

You can buy the things you need very easily, quickly and cheaply in 1 or 2 hours.

I take 3 pairs of shorts, two are very casual like bathing suits and one is more like pants with belt loops, crease etc.

Shirts with collars (like Lacoste) look nicer than T-shirts all the time.

If you wish, take one pair of nice very light weight pants so you can go to a nice resto with a nice girl.

Bon courage et bonne chasse!

I always take a pair of long pants (navy or black or tan but not jeans) and a pair of shoes that I can use for going out. Also a couple of nice shirts. I wear shorts and basketball t-shirts and sneakers most of the time.

I like to go for diner and dancing. And when i do I will wear the pants shoes and nice shirt. I feel more comfortable and I get less of the asshole farang attitude from the locals. That doesn't mean you can't go into a disco etc with shorts tee and sneakers, but if you go to a place that includes something other than BGs and punters sometimes you get an attitude. :beer

its not just i dont like shopping but i can only come for short stays.

and apart from buying the wonderfull fresh fruit, then once round bigC and once round the royal gp,i want to lounge by the pool, have soapys, massages,EAT thai food,

go to lolitas,go to mystys andTQ1 in the afternoons,do the prowls of the beerbars and check out the gogos, have some short times and find somebody to spend the night with.

and get some sleep.

shopping is at the bottom of my list to do.

just bring light weight summer clothes you need enough so you always have a couple or 6 clean shirts and underpants and socks if you wear shoes not with sandals of course.

and jaque said he was only in pattaya for a week,so to hell with shopping i say :eyecrazy :D

During the day, I wear shorts and a t-shirt but at night I wear long trousers and a short sleeved shirt. I bought a few shirts last November for about 150 baht each.

A couple of tailors said that they could make shirts for me within 2 or 3 hours. I declined their offer but doubtless worth while for you guys who need larger sizes.

Agree with all this. Best to travel with a wheelie trolley bag you can take in the cabin with you. I travel smart, and change in Pattaya. I take 3 t-shirts, three pairs of shorts. I go from my hotel in my trainers and buy a pair of flip flops for about 100 baht.

I bin the flip flops on my last day cos dey smell like farangs armpit. 1luv

My advice for you: You're not going long... pack light clothes for the day, pack nice pants and short sleeves for night. Buy clothes there for "souveniers" if you really want to, but you won't want to shop and drag a bunch of stuff back to the hotel with only a week to spend... it interrupts your drinking!

If you're going out for the female attention, you'll do alright dressed however you want but the ladies will always appreciate the guys with style and you'll probably get more attention. Especially in the clubs. This was a proven fact with me - the nights I took the time to dress a little nicer and clean up before hitting the strip it was well worth it. B) :D

Enjoy your time. I'm very jealous! I have to wait until July/August before I get my next round of 'Patts.

Bring what you need. Daytime you'll be wearing shorts and sandals of some sort with a t-shirt or whatever.

For nightime, I'd suggest linen shirts and I'd bring those with you as a lot of the cheap shit in Pattaya and Thailand is man made fibres. You may want long trousers but I never do. I might however put on some trainers at night.

You don't really want to have to go shopping, then find that they haven't got exactly what you need and find yourself forced into having to buy somethings which you don't want but actually need.

I have about 10 or so short sleeved shirts hanging in my wardrobe I bought specifically for trips to Pattaya. I usually pack a selection of maybe half of those each trip.

I once wore one of these shirts to go to a pub here in Edinburgh on a Friday with my pals. The abuse I took was something to behold :D

Well I like them but I must admit maybe I am colour blind :devil

Sounds like the same kind of short sleeve shirts that I have, jambo :beer . I bought a few last year for about 150 baht each.

  • 2 weeks later...

I can recall on my first trip, there was a guy in front of me checking in. He had what amounted to a shaving kit. The person said, your going to BKK and that is all your luggage. Well I have come to learn that he had the right idea. On my last trip everything fit into a large day pack, including laptop. I just breezed through passport and customs, and was on my way in record time. Anything I needed I bought as I needed. I would also just jetison things as I went along as well. Basicly I see no reason to bring lots of clothes. For all practical puroposes you are just draging around a bunch of dirty laundry. My goal on my next trip is to carry even less. My current supplies are,3 sox, 2 shorts-swim trunks, 3 underwear, one pair of pants, (wear on plane) nice shoes,(wear on plane) one long sleeve shirt, 2 t's. Med's and toiletries and thats about it. Less than 15 pounds. Less is more.

:D Try to travel light. If you can, just bring a carry on. So, you won't have to wait for your baggage down stairs at the baggage claim. And, remember play it by ear. :( Clothes are cheap in LOS you may consider buying as you need it and laundry services outside of the hotels is fairly reasonable. If, you remember to bring your clothes to them dry. Becouse, they charge by the kilo. A rainy day is good for the cleaner! :(

The Dude. :(
