I have just e-mailed OURS travel to book out November 9th back 30th on the new EVA 777, booking Elite(Evergreen) class and hoping to upgrade to Premium Laurel using miles.

I booked Wednesday travel hoping it will be easier to upgrade than on a weekend.

The aircraft seems great but it's a fucking long way on 2 engines, and they are not Rolls Royce either :beer

Gus,

"In addition, Premium Laurel passengers enjoy a novel Inflight Beverage Island that EVA has stocked with a full menu of refreshments, from designer water and fine wines to snacks and gourmet treats. Creative lighting and dry-ice effects add to the island's unusual onboard ambiance."

All that money and effort spent on the new seats and you'll probably spend the full 12 hours propping up the bar in premium laurel! :beer :beer

I keep saying I can't wait to try it out in August. And you're probably right! We'll all be standing around the bar instaed of in our seats. Also, those seats appear to be the exact same ones as on the A332.

You cannot combine mileage in this way on EVA, you must have enough miles in your account or in the account that is transferring but you cannot add 15000 of yours and 12500 of someone elses to make enough for an upgrade.

Cathay played up their bar in their new business class also, but when I tried it during November in reality it was too small to hang out by and in a very high traffic area so no one really hung out there. Hopefully EVA's is better.

You missed, '60" extra wide lavatory for passengers with special needs' :D

Could be my chance to join the Mile High club, I am only Solo at the moment :P

I notice that the Elite seats are Business Class seats, 18.5" wide but the economy seats are also 18.3" wide with 33" pitch, may be better in the Zoo on the 777 as well.

Actually economy is OK until the Dick in front of you reclines their seat fully back, then it is a pain :rotflmao

I went Upper Class with Virgin Atlantic once to HKG on the A346 when it was pretty new, not a lot of action around the bar, should have been staffed by Soi 8 girls, there would have been some action then :D

Gus,

It's a bit of an anomaly of how you measure the width of the seats. EVA, in this case, have obviously taken it to be the distance between the inside of the armrests. If you measure the width between the centre of the armrests then Elite would probably come out around 2 inches wider than economy.

Anyway, it's good to see EVA looking after the guys in the middle and back of the plane ........... something that Thai could learn from.

Anything is possible. I have always heard that the airlines pick the seats and the plane manufacturer installs them, BUT, I was just on Boeing's web site reading about their new 777-200LR "Worldliner" and they make a point about their seats being "more comfortable" than those used by Airbus. Of the two 777-200LRs that started flight testing this last March, one is being used for PR puproses and a section of the plane has been outfitted with "Airbus seats" so a direct comparison can be made by prospective buyers. I Found that interesting as I have always thought that Airbus somehow manages to put the seats even closer together than they already are on Boeing aircraft.

While I have always been a big fan of the 747-400, I've found the 777-200 to be a more comfortable plane. At least the ones used by Korean Air. Many of the older 747-400s are now being refurbished with a 777 style interior which I believe is called, "The Boeing Signature Interior."

Also, soon a decision will be made on whether or not to build a new advanced version of the 747-400 using the technology they have developed for the forthcoming 787/7E7. Appropriately, as of the moment, this new 747 will be called the "747 Advanced."

When I fly Premium Laurel in September I think I'll make a point of avoiding people with those kind of special needs.

Gus, don't worry about the engines on a 777. Each one has the same thrust as 2 engines on a 747. One of the Boeing flight test 777's was parked on a stand near our office at London Gatwick last weekend and looked very nice.

I bet Phuket Air 747s looked nice when they were on the ground at LGW :eyecrazy

I know that the 777 is a very reliable aircraft, some of them fly over the North Pole. If someone is a mathamatician there is something about 4 engines being more likely to develop a fault than 2 engines. :eyecrazy

I can't wait for November and to try the new 777. I always preferred the 747 to the A340, if you have a window seat on the 340 the fuselage tends to curve over your head more than the 747 which doesn't curve until higher. Plus you can have a look out of the window on the emergency exit at the rear of the 747, the 340 has a small window.

Finally I guess the 777 flys at the same speed as the 747 as the schedules appear to be the same.

According to the tech specifications on the Boeing web site, the 747-400 is slightly faster than the 777, flying at .855 of Mach at 35,000 feet vs .84 of Mach at the same altitude for the 777. Sounds small, but makes a difference on a long trip.

"but it's a fucking long way on 2 engines"

I've been flying on United 777's (not the ER's) from Chicago to Narita Japan for the last three years and they haven't fallen out of the sky yet! That's thirteen hours non-stop on the westbound flight.

I like the old triple 7's and I'm looking forward to seeing Eva's introduction of the 777-ER out of LAX.

i phoned up travelmood earlier on to pay the balance of my flight in october, i also asked for either seat 22d or 21 g! so hopefully ill get one of them! i also phoned up evas office in london yesterday (they answered straightaway! and were very helpful!... not like thai airways!) cos i wanted to see if i could use my wifes miles to combine with mine to enable me to up-grade! (you were right roland!!) and i couldnt! but the woman on the phone said that i could use 5,000 miles for an airport lounge pass? and seeing as ive got 12,000 miles expiring this year i thought id may as well use them for the lounges, anybody else done this? cos the woman on the phone said you couldnt book them and you had to ask at check-in? first off she said it was only for silver card holders then she said that i could use them as i was flying elite/ evergreen deluxe?

The departure and arrival times I've been given for the 777 are the same as for the 747. Guess they must have fitted go-faster stripes.

There are many things taken into consideration when making up the schedules, some of which cannot be known at the time they are printed. Tailwinds, headwinds, congestion at the airport (availability of a gate), etc., etc., etc.

For example, if a plane is leaving late for, whatever reasons, and is parked at the gate your plane has been assigned to use upon arrival, your pilot might just slow down a little so the gate is free by they time you arrive. Once a plane I was on left 30 minutes late, but still managed to arrive 20 minutes early. Some call it the "fudge factor," and no, not that kind of "fudge"

I'm sure others have similar names for it.

Yep. Could also be that they haven't bothered to revise their schedules to accommodate the new plane.

Or maybe they've found a shortcut? :beer

Any anoraks out there? :D

What would be a ball park figure for the fuel costs for the 777 between LHR and BKK compared with the 744?

:D
