The 2005 Chiang Mai Golf Trip

We are organising a golf trip to the North of Thailand in November 2005. This trip takes place the week after the RideHer Cup when a lot of golfers will be in Pattaya. We have also chosen this week to co-incide with the festival of Loi Krathong which is celebrated in spectacular style in Chiang Mai.

The programme for the Chiang Mai golf trip is the following:

Sunday November 13th Rendezvous with transport. Depart Pattaya in the morning and transfer by air conditioned coach or minibus to Bangkok airport. Fly to Chiang Mai on a scheduled flight where we will be met by our golf host - PGA professional Jeremy Paulson. Transfer by coach or mini bus to the Imperial Mai Ping Hotel. We are booked on a bed and breakfast basis for 4 nights.

Monday November 14th to Wednesday November 16th We will be playing 3 of the top golf courses in the Chiang Mai area. Chiang Mai Lamphung Chiang Mai Green Valley and Royal Chiang Mai Golf Club. We will be collected from our hotel around 0900 each morning and transported to the course by mini van or bus for a mid-morning tee off time. The transport will return to the hotel in the late afternoon. In the evenings, we can organise dinner at selected restaurants followed by a bit of prowling around the fleshpots of Chiang Mai! I will be carrying out some exhaustive market research on your behalf in late September to ensure we have a suitable short list of bars and restaurants for the group! The big Loi Krathong celebration takes place on Wednesday night so I will try to book a restaurant by the river that evening.

Thursday 17th November Check out of the hotel in the morning and transfer to Chiang Mai airport. Return flight to Bangkok. The trip ends in Bangkok because some of the group will be flying out of Thailand that day. We will organise transport back to Pattaya for those that need it and I can also offer good rates for hotel accommodation in Bangkok for those that need it.

The price and what is included

The price for this trip will be about 16,000 baht. The hotel and transport rates will depend on the number in the party so hence a price estimate right now. This price includes:

Transport from Pattaya to Bangkok Airport

Transport from Chiang Mai airport to the hotel and back to the airport

Single room bed and breakfast at the Imperial Mai Ping

Green fees, caddy fees and a cart share at the 3 golf courses

Daily transport to and from the golf courses

Souvenir Polo shirt

Golf trophy and prizes

The price does not include the air fare from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and return. We are planning to negotiate a group price with Nok Air or one of the low cost carriers in Business Class so that we get the extra baggage allowance. This should ensure that some of our "larger girth" golfers are seated comfortably and there is sufficient baggage allowance for your clubs. When I have negotiated the price, I will advise all group members and let you know how to pay this.

Girl friends and non-golfers are welcome

Partners are welcome to join the golfing group. The price for a non-golfing partner sharing a room with the golfer will be an additional 3,250 baht. This price includes the transfers, the additonal charge for a room share, souvenir polo shirt and two excursions. We will organise a couple of excursions for the partners when the golfers are out on the course. One will be to the temple in the hills above Chiang Mai - our host will sort out some other choices.

Please book before the end of Serptember

I need to know who is joining the group before the end of September so that we can get the final flight, hotel and tee times booked. Please register either by posting here or sending me a PM with your booking. I need to know:

Your full name

The full name of any partner that will be accompanying you

Whether you need transport back to Pattaya on 17th November

Your shirt size

Room requirements - single, twin or double occupancy

Your email address and the name of the hotel where you will be staying in Pattaya (non-residents).

I will also be asking for a deposit of 50% of the cost by the end of September. I will probably set up a Pay Pal account for the trip. If some of you that don't know me are worried about the security of your funds, I am happy to sort out whatever reasonable security you might need. If you subsequently cancel, the deposit will be refunded less any cancellation charges we might incur from the hotel or transport provider. Hopefully, there will be no such charges.

If you have any questions, please post them here or you can email me from my profile.

Should be a great trip. Maybe some of the participants in last year's golf trip can post a few photos here to show you what to expect!

I look forward to meeting up with all of you.

Doggie,

Count me and Fornicator in for Chang Mai :nod :nod . Will send you email with details. When there in September please also confirm the safety of any bridges we might cross to ease Pieman's phobia developed after last years trip. :nod :D .

Cheers   ,

Wow Doggie:

I am drooling. What a great trip and price. I've always wanted to see Chang Mai also. Unfortunately I will be leaving the 14th. :cry2

For anyone on the fence and considering going, we did a similar trip to Kanchanburi last year a had a stellar time. Doggie sorted everything down to a tee.

Hub

Doggie, I assume Lobin will spoof you out of your room at the Mai Ping once again?

Nice work china. :cry2

I'm in and although I'll probably be "sans Doris", please reserve a room with a King-size bed if poss (smoking), or, alternatively, as Hub points out I could just take yours again. :clap1

I won't need transport to BKK as plan to be there the night before anyway. Likewise the return to Pattaya - I'll sort myself out on that front.

I will try to book a restaurant by the river that evening

In view of the Kanchanaburi experience - can I have a table at the back please ? :D

Cheers

Why not? Count us in then but A.M. is unlikely to play golf every day as you would have forseen. May bring her mate to keep her company.

Will see you next week for a chat.

Oh bliss. 5 weeks now gone and only one week left to go till we get home.

Lobbin please PM me the name of the freight company you used for your stuff from S.A.

Thanks for the responses guys. Looks like a great group already!

Will try my best to keep the Pieman away from water. Does he have to avoid mirrors and daylight as well? If so, will try to hire a coach to take him back to the Transylvanian Castle :beer (try spelling that after as many beers as I have had tonight) before dawn. I am already resigned to losing my room to the Spoofmeister. :beer

Hilly, which mate is AM bringing - the one with the tatoos who is familiar with the Champs Elysee? :P

Hope Big kev manages to hold on to his lunch on the flight! :clap1 :clap1 :beer :gulp :gulp :gulp :gulp

See you next Friday Hilly and AM. Looking forward to it.

Doggie,

count me in 100%, sounds bloody great. Thanks for all the hard work in organising.

Would appreciate peoples coments on the partners front. I'm tossing up about inviting a girl from Bangkok along for the few days, whats the view, is it a handbreak and spoils the fun for the others, or does it generally work out pretty good all round. She'll be happy to go with the flow I would suspect.

I have plenty of time available both before and after this side trip in Pattaya so it's not all about bars and clubs. Interested in previous participants thoughts. Cheers

Doggie,

Count me(and non golfing partner) in too. Will send PM to you in the next day or two.

Taxi,

Re partners - IMO depends on location. For me if it was Khankanburi I would probably recommend taking a partner but for Chiang Mai not so sure. Don't know the place but have been lucky enough to have experienced Doggies organisational skills in the past and not sure if there is value in parting out an extra airfare and then being unable to fully utilise his planning. On this occasion in my case it is unavoidable though.

Taxi,

I know this sounds obvious but the right girl can be a blast :banghead and the wrong girl a disaster 2guns . If she is generally good natured and fun to be around when you have been out with her in groups bring her. There will be plenty for her to do and it sounds like to the Thai's Chang Mai is the place to be for Loy Kathrong.

Hub brought an absolutely wonderful young lady with him last year to Kanchanburi that was a joy to be around and definately added to the trip. You know the girl so you know best. I will bet that most that go will bring someone. I and Fornicator both plan to (who is yet to be determined), I know that Steve-O will not be allowed to not bring his girl ( especially with Satan Spawn I mean Doggie on this trip), AnnMarie is bringing Hilly, and I am sure Pie will bring his bottle of Havana Club :P .

Cheers :D :P ,

I think that quite a few of the guys will be bringing girls with them. Chiang Mai is a great place to celebrate Loi Krathong and that is more fun with a girl in tow. We have a girl based in Chiang Mai who looks after our regular golf customers and she will organise a couple of excursions for the girls when the guys are away playing golf. She can also point them in the direction of the right shops to spend your money.

I predict that we will probably dine together in the evenings as a large group and then the solo mongers might split off to forage for some local cultural experience. If the "attached" guys want to bar crawl with the solo mongers, the girls can be deposited together in a local karaoke for a few hours with a brownie or two.

As we all know, Thai girls are happier in packs so I am sure that neither you or your girl will miss out on any fun if you bring her with you.

Taxi, IF I can use one of my get out of gaol free passes and make it for the Chang Mai leg, or at least part of it, I'll probably bring my own "Sony Portable Entertainment Player."

Just got to keep Hilly away from the microphone. :chogdee2

BTW, anyone caught the 1st class overnight sleeper train to Chang Mai recently. Any comments? Not real big on these budget (oops the engine fell off) airlines.

Will confirm before end of September Doggie. Thanks

If we get business class on Nok we will be fine. They have a 30kg allowance. I am currently planning to have one car leave Pattaya on Saturday so there is also the possibility of getting some clubs up there with that car.

Will advise nearer the time.

I also hope you feel comfortable in meeting people from the board other than Doggie and Pieman. :bj1

On a serious note, how about a quick review of those 11 courses when you get back?

I may hit CM next year.

You will not be disappointed with Gussan - it is a splendid course but very difficult. I would not recommend it for anyone above 18 handicap. It is a combination of fairway, jungle and water. If you dont hit the fairway with your drive then just hit 3 off the tee. However, it should not be a problem for a golfer of your calibre.

It is a pity you can't make the RideHer Cup but you will enjoy good golf in Chiang Mai. If you are playing 11 courses then I imagine you are including Chiang Rai in your trip. Or maybe you are like Big Kev and describing dinner!

Hub, nice to see your sparkling wit is boundless as always. We are so looking forward to your company round the bars in Pattaya! It will be a pleasure to try to play the same fourball in the RideHer as last year. And I am really looking forward to the drinks stop after the front nine.

Thank you Doggie for your belives in my golfing ability. :bow

I am now playing of a hcp. 30 <huh . So I somtimes move along the course in peculiar ways. :eyecrazy . But since I dont lose any sleep over a 13 on my scorecard so I can enjoy most courses.

I also think St. Andrews 2000 is a fab. golf course. <grin

Yes I am also including Chiang Rai (Santiburi and Waterford Valley).

I trust you enter a good team this year so you bring back the trophy where it belongs to the home of golf. :clap2

55 days and counting every second :frustrated

Doggie:

I look forward to it as well, including the rapier-like sarcasm with the Scot accent I may have just got a serving of. :cry1

As to the ninth hole, I wouldn't miss the opportunity but may wait until the 5th or 6th hole to begin drinking in earnest this time so as to save some "powah" for the back nine.

Speaking of drinking on the course and it's ill effects:

and the subsequent ill effects of the alcohol and associated reprehensible behaviour :D :D

See you during November,
