This was a quick trip so there was some confusion about reservations. Sent e-mail, but received no reply by the time I left for the airport. Tried to call, but no one answered the main number. Got to Taipei, checked e-mail and they say they have a "Deluxe Sea View" room for two days only. I sent back, OK, I'll take it.

Arrived Pattaya, they don't know anything about it. Say I can have "Suite" for 2,500 THB and they will change rooms tomorrow. I say, OK, thinking I'll find another hotel. This is still the low season, but when I get to The Sunshine Vista Apartments, they say they are booked solid. Something about some corporate guy and his company. I go to the Sabai Lodge where I've stayed before, but what they showed me isn't any better than what I have for about the same money and no view. I'm exhausted from the flights, so I decide to take the "Deluxe Sea View" room today. The "Suite," btw, is just two of their regular rooms put together. Change around 3 or 4 pieces of furniture and you would have two regular rooms.

The "Deluxe Sea View" room they just moved me to has mosquitoes and the caulking around the tube is covered in mould.

Cheap furniture. Looks good, but those drawers you think you can put your clothes

in are not draws. Facades. Ditto the night tables, no drawers.

If I don't find something else that fits my requirements, I'll stick it out for a few days, but I'll never stay here again.

As soon as this places starts showing wear it will be just another dump with a view like the AA next door.

samosonite,

I think that you experience is some miscommunication that can happen at any hotel. The suite is quite large and if you compare their beds to other hotels I think you would have to say they are comfortable. For 2500 baht a night what level of quality did you expect the furniture to be. I think you will find that sandy's furniture is better that residence gardens and not as good as marriot. As for drawers there are many drawers that open. Try it sober.

I think you will find that the new sabai lodge will have rooms to your liking for a reasonable rate.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at SS. They have alwasy been extremely good service for me. But it is hard to book there. They tend to be full even in low season. B)

Samsonite are you sure it was the Sandy Spring ?. I stop there and so do a heap of other Bordie's including Sa-Teef and Bazzap and the only complaints that I have heard is the construction noise from some of the front rooms sometimes.

If the construction noise isn't too bad, take a look at the Inn House half way up Soi 13 opposite the Sportsman.

Well the Sandy spring is right next door to the Sportsman and opposite The Inn House.

Yes, it was/is The Sandy Spring.

For 2,500 THB in BKK I would NOT expect much, BUT this is Pattaya and for that I do not think the "suite" is acceptable. Actually, until the recent round of prices increases in BKK you could get better, much better for less than 2,500 THB. A year ago July I had a large REAL suite at the Royal President, Soi 15, for just under 2,000 THB.

While I appreciate some of your comments some of you must really have low expectations. OTOH, in thailand that is often the best attitude to have so if you find something better than you expected, you are pleasantly surprised.

I have stayed at the Sandy Spring for all my trips for the last two years. I was just there in July and will be back in about 2 weeks. I normally book the deluxe but have also stayed in a two room suite and think the price is very good for what you pay.

I have one of the membership cards and the suite was about 1900 baht the last time I stayed in one. Dingo is correct the suite on the top floor isn't discounted and you do pay the full price of 2500 baht.

I have always had good results with booking reservations by email and find that most time I get a reply in 24 hours or less. I also find the staff very helpful and very friendly.

I just called a friend this morning that is staying there now and he said the only downside now is if you have a room on the Soi 13 side, because of the construction. I send off a email to change the room that I booked to a inside room and have already gotten a reply with a room change.

I am wondering if you book through the Scandibar.com website?

SoCalGuy,

I book directly with the Sandy Spring. When I stay there and before I check out I will book my reservation for the next trip at the desk. Pay them for the first night and later when I get home I can fine tune the reservation a day or two based on my plans for when I arrive.

BTW, when I was there in July after booking my September dates I also booked my December dates as they already had several reservations for December. Last year I tried to book for December when I was there mid September and they were all ready 100% booked for my dates.

LeoTex,

Don't tell everyone how OK this hotel is. The more people who think its not one of the best values in Pattaya the easier it will be for you and I to get reservations. Mine for a top floor suite at 2500/night has been made for a month. Can't wait for November. But don't tell!

I have booked thru Scandibar three times this year and it always worked perfectly. Have now decided to make Sandy my home in Pattaya and therefore booked the next trip with the hotel directly using their membership card. Cost is 350 a year but savings compared to Scandi rate is 50B a night (I do not care about the free drink as I do not drink and have never been in the bar to check in my coupons), as I stay an average of 40 - 50 nights in Pattaya it pays off. Reservation confirmation was received within 24 hours, so no problems with direct communication with the hotel.

stayed there last dec and very impressed.

already booked for this year and checked to see how the construction was going last week.

must have been a good day as seemed quiet.

normally wake up with the sound of a drum banging inside my head so little construction noise wont get noticed
