Three questions please.

1. Where is the best place in Pattaya to buy gold ?

2. Anyone know what profit margin can be made on gold bought in Thailand and sold in the UK. I understand the price in Pattaya now is 9,000 for 1 baht of gold.

3. What is 1 baht of gold in ounces.

Thank you

1 baht of gold is 15.2 grams (that's rounded slightly)

5 baht gold is like 75.8 grams

Best place to buy gold is MBK in bangkok. Most of the gold shops in pattaya will be very competetive. Gold is now closer to 9600 baht for a 1 baht gold. The buy and sell prices are for straight gold only. When you buy a bracelet or necklace you also pay for workmanship. for items like that it is usually between 200 and 600 baht. That means a 1 baht gold bracelet will have an asking price of maybe 10,200 baht. (9600 + 600) they will usually be willing to negotiate on the price but will never go below the sell price for gold.

For something like earing the workmanship can be expensive. a 1/2 baht set of earings can cost an extra 1200 baht for workmanship if they are intricate. When you sell them back to a gold dealer you will only get the cost of the gold not anything for workmanship.

My friend bought a bar of gold in Thailand for about £1000 and when he came back to the UK tried to sell it but could only get a bit less for it here. The price of gold is the same every where in the world the only way you will make any money is if the price goes up after you buy. He took it back to Thailand a few months later and the price went up and he made about £120 on it. He also bought a mans gold and diamond ring in Thailand for £260 and when he brought that to the UK he was offered £400 for it, so maybe better to by quality jewellery that gold bars. :nod :nod

Hi

Was talking to a jeweller in Hatton Gardens. He said Thai gold is really too soft for jewellery and too flashy for Western tastes. The price has gone up recently.

That is true, I have also talked to them. The only market is really the Indian sub continent one as they like the flash stuff as well.

All jewellers in LOS will bullshit you that the reason they don't pay you for workmanship when you trade in gold is because Thais don't like second hand. That is shit, the Thais would not know. The jeweller just pockets the difference and puts it back in the shop window.

This MAY be of intrest to those of you wishing to purchase gold in pattaya

Taken from pattaya news online:

At this time of year with the festive Season almost upon us, many of us are searching for presents to give to our loved ones and friends. Many of us opt for jewelry including gold necklaces, rings and bracelets. If you were thinking of purchasing gold, we would like to suggest to you to buy early because the price of Gold has significantly increased over the last few months and has finally broke the 10,000 Baht per 1 Baht of Gold mark. The current price of gold here in Pattaya is a staggering 10,200 Baht. In some cases, if the Gold item requires extra workmanship, the price will currently rise to as much as 10,550 Baht. It is expected that this price will further rise and to give you some idea of how the price has increased, four months ago, the price was 8,200 Baht.

The price of gold you see in the gold shops is tied to the international price of gold ( check the precious metals on the Wall Street Journal) which is currently at it highest in the last few years. I bought some last week when it was at 9850, saw it posted yesterday in the shops at 10,200 and 10,250. They will then tack on another 500 baht per baht of weight, this is the amount you have to negoiate with them. If your trading in some gold to purchase a larger piece they will give you less than the going rate. About 600 less, but this amount can also be negoiated.

What would the price of a narrow, plain, wedding band style gold ring in a ladies size sell for?...

Ballpark figure works for me

thanks

for a woman a 1/2 baht ring should do nicely. It will be thick enough that it will not bend. For a man 1 baht is better. I have a 1/2 baht ring and it bends pretty easily becuase it is thin. For a typical woman the 1/2 baht ring would be twice as thick as my ring and hold up better. at 10,200 that woulkd make it 5100 baht. Rings go for very close to price of gold. They will usually add engraving for free. My says wife "heart" Husbands ATM :D :P 2guns 2guns

And shit the price has gone up. For mother's day I bought mother in law a 1 baht gold for 8800 baht in khorat. on 18 november I bought 1 baht gold for 9600 baht. That was less than a month ago. 2guns 2guns

Gold is an element. Its chemical symbol is AU, atomic weight 196.97, atomic number 79.

'Thai gold' must be some sort of alloy i.e. adulterated.

Not all that tempts your wandering eyes

and heedless hearts is lawful prize;

nor all that glisters, gold

What female heart can gold despise?

What cat's averse to fish?

(Quotes from Thomas Grey 1716-1771)
