UA airfare sale USA-BKK

Recommended Posts

Check travelzoo.com website for good fares from the US to BKK travel thru early May. Fare from PHL-BKK is $902 all in. Better then the $1500 fares they were quoting me last week.

SA-teef, you can thank delta and northwest. With talk of a strike hapening at those companies in the next few weeks demand for united flight went ballastic. They still have some cheap fares but for several days that I was checking in march and april they were completely sold out. :banghead

"you can thank delta and northwest"

Yup, serious question if Northwest will still exist after a pilot's strike. It's in the St Paul paper every day now; front page top of the fold.

If NWA goes on strike or just goes, United will be all alone as the dominate airline in MSP. That means the end of any bargain fares for me!

The thing is, United has downsized most of their flights out of ORD from 744's to triple 7's to keep their planes full. If there is the least bit of an up-tick in demand, they are sold out!!! :allright

Looks like it will be a shuttle to the coast and an asian airline for me this summer.

Steve:

If you can get an economy shuttle over to LAX, Cathay is $709 (850 w/taxes) during May.

Unfortunately, fares evrywhere jump up during June, when I need to find tickets for some friends and family.

Thanks Hub.

I'll be shopping for an end of May departure coming back end of June soon. I found a couple in the $850-880 total price range last night out of LAX.

I opted for Cathay Pacific last night at $950 for the end of April because it's a short time frame for me then, only a nine day visit, and I REALLY WANTED to fly early am Friday and return Sunday. The end of May will be a little more leisurely so I can fly mid-week and catch the deals. A small price to pay to sneak in a fourth trip this year! :banghead

IF NWA goes belly-up for good, a real possibility according to the local pundits, I hope a couple of the asian airlines move-in and give United some competition. Cathay Pacific is already advertising some combinations using local carriers to LAX and SFO, but the package prices aren't very attractive at this point. I can arrange my own shuttle for a couple hundred less and get their late night flights out of LAX. I used to always do that before NWA and UA started cutting prices 4-5 years ago.

Thanks for the help guys.

~Sa-teef

As a post script to the above>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I bought my shuttle flight to the coast and back with my UA frequent flyer miles tonight! :banghead

Total cost to me: $10 for the security fee!

Does anyone else see the irony in that?

I was able to book PHL-BKK, 1 May and returning 23 May on travelocity.com for $912. UA wanted $1350 on their website.

PHL to BKK for May travel at $912 is a great price (even with the 4 hour layover in Tokyo and the 11:30 pm arrival in BKK). That same United Flight Costs $1547 just 1 month later (June 29 - July 10). Shit! What a difference a lousy month makes! Cheapese I can find out of Phil is Delta at $1256 (and it's a loooong itinerary).

Why do prices go up so much from May to June?

I used Thaiairways direct non-stop from JFK to BKK in February. It sure beat having to change planes in Hong Kong or Japan with the layover time between connecting flights. Advertised as 17 hours one way but they do a little better than that and their coach seats offer more room than Cathay Pacific. The Thai airways flight arrives in BKK at 4:00 pm while the other flights from Cathay Pacific and Northwest all arrive at the same time at 11:00 PM.

Much nicer getting there in the afternoon.

I was shopping fares again today. Pushing my departure date back into april I found United fares as low as $839. That's not bad but just a month ago there was march fares as low as $635 sfo-bkk. If you check travelocity you will find that united has the fastest trips to bkk from sfo. 19 hours going 16 hr+ coming back. Only eva comes close. That and now that thai is flying direct from lax to bkk it could be 19 hours from sfo. or if I could get to la for something else then something like 14hr plus from LAX to BKK. even at that the united thai sfo lax bkk fare came to only $1100.

anyone flown the thai flight direct?? :clap2 :nod

I decided to splurge on my next trip this April and see if I could find a way to go business class from SFO without putting myself into debt for decades to come. By booking a 1-way ticket on China Airlines from SFO to BKK, and another 1-way on Korean Air for the return trip, I saved a surprising amount of money over what a regular round-trip ticket would have been on either airline alone. Yes, it's still on the expensive side, but it was about 500 bucks less than r/t on CI, and almost 2,000 less than what r/t on Korean Air would have cost. Both of these were booked directly through each airline's web site.

All good things must come to an end. After paying $25 for my Jan trip and $307 for my upcoming trip next week, I booked my trip for May today and United gouged me for $807. This was on their current promotion that ends tomorrow and is from Sacramento to LOS. Was able to get my exit row aisle seats but this time they put me on the 11:30 AM flight out of SFO instead of the 1:30 PM flight. Still on the same flight out of Narita to BKK so the only difference is the reduced time that I would be waiting for my connection in SFO has been added to Narita. The good thing about that is at foreign airports I'm entitled to use United's Red Carpet Lounge. ;)

How do you get the exit row seats in advance?

I call United reservations international, and ask for them. I was told that Premier Executives have first shot at them. If your booking on their website you can select your own seat.
