Stayed in May last year and they didn’t ask for a deposit then. They actually insisted on cash and wouldn’t accept a CC on check out!

Just ask them for their bank details so you can do a transfere, I know in Thailand you can transfere money via an ATM but I dont know if you can do this in UK you may have to do it at a bank.

It is very difficult in Thailand to take credit cards "Customer not Present" because of the frauds.

I don't know how often this place gets booked solid in May as its usually a dead quiet time of the year but, IMHO, asking for a 4000 deposit is taking the piss.

I expect there will be lots of places in May that will have rooms with some fantastic deals available. I wouldn't pay a deposit up front at this time of the year unless I was desperate to stay there.

Stayed at the QV this past Jan/Feb with the reservations made in Oct/Nov 2005 and they never asked for any deposit at all. Sam same for the stay in April 2004.

Seems out of place for them to ask for a deposit.

Only 3 of the rooms had guests

Stayed at the QV many times and got to know the onwer well.

I tired to booked in Nov 06 but was told was full, dropped by on my trip to have a beer and he told me, he got fed up with guests booking and end up as no shows. So he installed "Paypal' on his web site and now asks for deposit.

If you decide to book and pay desopit, I wouldn't worry, just ask for email receipt and bring with you. I like this place, great food & a good pint, well ran and clean.

No in-room safe, one downstairs in the bar. A few ex-pats drink in there too

guest friendly

BM Donny recently installed a WiFi router there too. I love to eat/drink there, but I wouldn't stay there--I've had too many drunken incidents with stairs.

That doesn't sound right. Stayed there last September, no deposit asked for. The only thing Vic asked me to bring was some Colmans English mustard.

Booked up again for this Sept/Oct and again no deposit. Although he does know me now.

Yep; the food there rocks, ate there several times before venturing out on soi paradise ( 6) :clueless , great location for sure .

Hi,

Can't speak about this place, but usually if booking conditions change it can be because of new manager or owner doing things his/her way.

The QV closes down early and you have to use the fire escape to get to your room, so it's unlikely they'd have a gorilla on the stairs collecting joiner fees!

Try "Tropical Berts" around the corner. It is just before Soi 6 / 1 off second road.

Bert used to be the manager of the Queen Vic.
