For taxi service, contact Mr. Toom. I always stay at the Marriott, which has an excellent location and a really nice pool. A bit expensive for what you get, truth be told, but girls like it and it's 5 minute walk to heaven.

Forgot Mr. Toom's contact information: 01-4827148 , 03-0178066 E-mail: toom39@msn.com

If you get a taxi from the airport get one from one of the desks inside the waiting area just after you pass customs. Cost nowadays is somewhere around 2,000 baht. You might save a little cash hiring one of the hawkers outside but you're taking a big chance, not worth it. Haven't used Mr. Toon myself but the price sounds very good and I have heard him recommended before on this board.

There are many places to stay here of coarse, and you can spend just about as much or as little as you want. You will find more information in the, Hotel and Accomodation Questions, section of this board.

I wish it were my first time coming to Pattaya. You'll make some mistakes but you will also have the time of you're life....The thing you won't like is going back...

Cheers

Hi surry i agree with posts so far re. taxi. I haven`t used mr.tooms service but plenty of good reports.I recently used lostinspace service listed in the Meeting and cost sharing section here. Paid 2000bht(just under £30) so dearer than mr.toom but an excellent service.

Just as a rough guide to hotel location,as it`s going to be your first visit you will probably find it handy to be near the main bahtbus circuit i.e Beach road/2nd road.

Any hotel on soi6.7 and 8(nightlife right on your doorstep here!) will be less than 5 minutes walk to catch a bahtbus taxi. Same goes for the hotels on soi 13,quite a few here, including the popular Dynasty Inn(no in room safe but lock boxes at reception and only very small swimming pool) Whitehouse Condotel in room safe but no pool.

Sandy Spring gets very good reviews, haven`t stayed personally though(tried but was fully booked the 2 times I tried!)

Lek hotel soi12/13 pretyy good, rooms in New wing have in room safe and nice pool there. As dave boo mentioned marriot also good location but dearer than the hotels I`ve mentioned.

Plenty of other choices if you look throught the Hotel Reviews section see what you like the sound of then maybe post again before you book to see if anyone stayed recently at your preferred choice/s(very likely)

All the Best and Have a Good Trip! :cry2 :cry2

I've used the car service located just past the currency exchange in the arrival hall with no problem. If you have travel insurance your covered because this is a licensed car service as the other guys are not. Cost 2K plus toll. Newish Toyota and your out of the airport very quick.

If you've never been to Bangkok I suggest you take 2-3 days there first and then head off to pattaya. Nana Hotel right across from NEP. see nanaplaza.com or bkktonight.com

do not get a taxi from inside airport ignore them they rip you off go straight outside to kiosk and get a taxi

I did not know there was a stand or booth outside, a little more info on these guys may be helpful. For the newbie that started this thread I was keeping things simple for him. The stand outside may be fine, but there are also many hawkers out there to promote taxi service with old unsafe, uncomfortable cars that have little or no air conditioning, many times at more cost. I am not saying that all of them are that way, I am sure that some really good service could be found out there, but for the first timer with jet lag it can be risky. Yes the vendors inside are expensive but I have always received top notch service from them. I am not rich but after 24+ hours of travel the last thing I want is a lousy taxi with no aircon.

Can you give us more detail on the taxi booth outside, like where we can find them, cost, and quality of service. I am all for saving money and would like to know more.

Wrasell, I do not recommend you grab a taxi from the arrival area outside.

Let me explain why, first, some of these taxis may be Bangkok based, so they may not know where to go in Pattaya if you are headed that way. If you are going to Bangkok, that is another story.

Secondly, if you walk out of the customs check area, there are two ways to go,

LEFT would bring you to the arrival area with pre-arranged private taxis and hawkers trying to get a fare to wherever you are going.

RIGHT, would bring you to a licensed taxi service, which is usually private cars that have insurance and better drivers plus the aircon you seek and pre-determined price usually in the range of 2000 baht.

If you want there are several threads on Lostinspace (Board member) who offers his wife are your personal chaffeur to Pattaya on her new pick-up truck and who can speak to you in English to entertain you on the way. Price I believe is 2000 baht plus TIP. She does drive an airconditioned pick up. Lots of positive input from other BM's

Mr Toom also offers a service, with a private car airconditioned also that has toll charges built in to the price. Last I remember 1200 all in PLUS TIP. Most positive inputs except for one misundersttanding last I read.

The main reason, I do not use the cheaper method of getting a cheap taxi from the departure area snagging them when they drop of passengers is you do not know what you are getting. Last thing I want after a long 17 hour flight is to argue with a Thai taxi driver PLUS there is an issue of liability in the event of a car accident on the highway if you carry travel insurance.

Pick and choose but always err on the safe side is my motto, have not had any problems before. Do a search on Meeting and cost sharing post as you will see lots of discussions on taxi services.

Very informative post dotcom!

Also there is Image Limousine @ 2700 Baht to Pattaya (www.imagelimo.com). Apparently they are very good.

I agree dotcom_OD any of the vendors that have an association with the airport I think would be a good bet. Just trying to keep it simple for a first timer. My self I would catch a 100 baht taxi to Morchit then to Pattaya for about 350 total for both me and telac.

Cheers

I have never had a problem getting a Bangkok city taxi from Bangkok to Pattaya from between 1200B - 1500B. But I have never tried from Don Muang, though.

Just a note of caution if you do head to departures and get a drop-off Taxi Meter.Don't get a Pattaya drop off ( not difficult to spot ) !!

This is because he would more than likely be on his third leg of what could have been a very long day but as we all know,he ain't gonna refuse !!

I went to Pattaya for the first time in April/May by myself. To hell with taxi's, I paid for the pick-up service offered by most gogo's. Driver met me in the airport with a plaque with my name on it, took my baggage - I got into the back with two girls and enjoyed my ride to Pattaya - one girl stayed with me for two days the other stayed with me the last four. Partied until 7:00 most mornings playing pool with my girls (she knew where we could go after closing). Once woke up with two naked gogo's (one was free). If you start off right - it only gets better. I'm going back last week of October - first week of November then I'm going to Rio in Feb.

either prearrange a pick up or use the limo service,a few years ago on bbc a brit who got in a taxi at the airport was shot 3 times he managed to get out of the car and get to a garage,he was not the only one, they caught the driver he led them to 4 bodys.dont take a risk just to save a few quid/dollars. :chogdee2
