I guess you could say it was a case of, "you get what you pay for."

:D

I made the horrible mistake of booking a "Deluxe room" at The Lord Nelson. When I checked in I was shown to a small dark room. I said to the girl, "I booked a Deluxe room," the respond was, "Deluxe room. See, DVD player." If that was a "deluxe room" I would hate to one of their regular "superior rooms." They must have used a fish eye lens on their camera to make the rooms look as big as they do in the web site photos.

The bathroom was so small the toilet was across from the shower and you could, if you so desired, take a shower while sitting on the porcelain throne.

The room was on the 3rd floor, 2nd to you European types, and at 4AM when two people were talking at normal tones on Soi 6, it seemed like they were standing next to the bed. There might as well have not been any glass in the window frames.

The next morning while I was sitting in the room the maid came in to change the sheets. I wouldn't have believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, but she removed the bedspread and the top sheet, hit the bed a couple of times as if she was brushing something off, pulled the bottom sheet tight, and put a clean sheet on top of the used bottom sheet and replaced the bedspread. Unbelievable!!!!

I was out of there in 24 hours. Would have been less, but I had a appointment that afternoon.

After I had checked out and moved to another hotel I noticed I was missing a couple of small items. A trouser hanger, the kind with the wood "clamps" that hold the trousers by the cuff and a can of air freshener. I went back to The Lord Nelson and the maid was sitting right next to me when I walked up to the bar and asked if I had left anything in the room. I was told I had not. Later when back at the new hotel I made a thorough search and the items were not in my luggage. The next morning I went back again and asked if they had found anything I might have left in the room and, again, I was told, "No." An out and out lie.

Oh, btw, they asked for a 1,000 baht deposit for the key to the lock box downstairs and the girl refused, twice to give me a receipt, telling me they didn't have receipts. I asked a little more strongly the third time and she produced a receipt book and wrote the requested document.

I don't mind walking and I don't mind stairs, but the stairs were some of the worst I've seen. Looked like something out of the Winchester Mystery House. The space that should have been used for the width of the steps was, apparently, put into the height of the risers. I had to go up and down the stairs sideways. The fire escape on the back of the building was easier to use.

I canNot recommend this hotel to anyone and would suggest you only consider it if every other hotel in Pattaya is booked solid.

The only positive thing I can say about it was the girls who work the bar during the day seemed very pleasant.

It was NOT over two small incidental items and IT IS NOT RUBBISH. Had the items not disappeared my opinion would be the same. To propose I, someone you don't know the first thing about, would be so petty as to write a negative review based on the lost of two small incidental items, would suggest such a low class hotel just might be a perfect fit for Your personality type, "stevoman." Or, do you simply have a financial interest in that dump?

So how much did you actually pay for the superior room????

Hey if you book a cheap room don't expect 5 star quality hey.

I requested a "Deluxe Room" and was definitely told when I checked in I had been given a "Deluxe Room," but the rate on the receipt is 700 THB, which is, I believe, the superior room rate.

I didn't expect much, but it was even lower in quality than I had been lead to believe.

Thanks for the advice. I will think twice about renting a room at this place.

I checked the website for the Rockhouse. Looks very nice, but no info on rates. What does it cost?

This is interesting.

I checked into this place and checked out again 15mins later with full refund.

I paid for the 750baht, top floor room.

Not bad, but seen better.

BIG PROBLEM - hygiene.

example: Fan above bed - a visable THICK layer of dust. This made me feel sick, as I wanted to use it. I thought it might be representitive of the general cleaning standards, including the bed, so I checked out.

The dust on the fan was not good enough.

I know what you mean about the stairs.

I don't expect the world for 750baht - but I expect a decent standard of cleanliness at all times

All true and all in my own humble opinion <grin

the rockhouse rooms are 850 b for one night, but stay one week get one night free, making it 728 b a night, stay one month get one week free, making it 645 b a night. all prices include water and electric and maid service, unlike many of our competition.

choice of 3 rooms too

yes marky,

but the best 3 rooms in pattaya at the price.

But what would the 645 thb/night be converted to if the hotelguest enjoyed to often entertain to or more female overnight guests ?

I pay 400 baht and get a big room, tv, fridge, daily clean (the cleaner insists). They also have a pet dog you can pat if you get bored. There is no security and I get keys to the front door, so everything is completely private. Also alot of bargirls live nearby. (soi chayapoon)

Thanx ladies!

I got a good laugh at you complaining about a sub-twenty dollar (us) room.

It is 530 am here in california and a good laugh is a great way to start the day.

I am one of those extravagant Californians, i spend THIRTY dollars for my serviced apartment!

I even leave a large suitcase there, with dvd and sterio in it!!.

I have been known to tip the staff, bring them t-shirts and give large pacs of diapers to the prego staff.

Did i mention that i always have 4 towels, my room gets cleaned when i request, room svc is exceptional, i get rooms when fully booked at walk in infront of other guests that have reservations.......

12+ stays at the hotel, and not a satang missing

oh, i just called last nite, person on the phone knew me, booked no problem for 20 dec for a month

yes you can get a lower "price" but the true "cost" is much higher....

Maybe i am just old fashioned

Do you get them to wipe your backside as well?

I guess i am just too sensitive

I was merely trying to point out that a little kindness goes a long way

Also, if you are being a cheap charlie, you cant expect much

This follows another thread about the guys you meet in country.....

maybe why i have been registered for 2 years and have a low post count

and others recently joined have a high count

When I first went to Thailand I didnt know anything, including Patpong, nana and Pattaya. I thought English had a good reputation of being gentlemen. So as i was in a different country I was doing my best to act like a polite gentlemen to everyone. Little did i know the whole time, i had 100's of shit heads working against me in my battle to try and make english people look good. :rotflmao

I get sick and tired of people making our citizens look shite, I am surprised normal thai girls talk to us, after all, we must look like a bunch of drucken, violent whoremongerers.

Good day to you sir,

I stand corrected

There appears to be at least one Proper Englishman here.

One correction, it is not "100's of shit heads", i believe the number is a tad higher.

I think there are alot of gentleman on this board, they just tend to lurk and not get involved in rows etc. Some of them pop in to fight our corner occassionally.

I just wish the thais would take all the money of most of these idiots and throw them in the sea and do us all a favour. I used to think girls loved me to much because of my age, its not, its because "you good heart". I got that fed up with a friend lieing to the girls i'd sit there saying "dorrlay" just to help them out, yet alot of the girls will cling onto whatever they can and ignore the abuse/lies they get.

Just caught the reference to the Winchester Mystery house. Do you live in San Jose by chance?

Not far away. It was many years ago. I doubt I would recognize the area today.

Oh, I agree with you, Mr. Wilson. :kissing The Lord Nelson is not sort of place I normally stay, but thought I would give it a try. Guess I shouldn't have been so surprised it was even more "down market" than I expected.

Care to reveal the name of this "upscale" service apartment you use?

:thumbup
