I think you'll find that they are running the 747's London to Bkk while waiting for the new Airbuse 380, that is delayed.

Could be a very long wait for the 380 to roll out of the factory. I wouldn't be surprised if Airbus runs into further delays.

I've flown Thai a few times from the US to BKK. Better service and food back in the cheap seats then UA.

The A380 was in Suvarnabhumi last week, Airbus were concerned that Thai may pull out of their plans to buy some A380s.

I got a Thai A300 to Chiang Mai the cabin colour was like wallpaper you find down the indian restaurant.

I flew thai business class from heathrow to bangkok last christmas,

the flight was ok but not worth the money in my opinion,

i am flying Etihad pearl (business) class this year and it sounds good

and the price was 400 pounds cheaper than thai.

I have flown Thai Airways twice this year and to tell you the truth it was as good as it gets. No complaints & I found their service to be as good as Cathy Pacific which I previously flew. The non-stop from JFK to BKK is the best way to get there from New York. Have bought tickets for that flight on Feb. 1 2007 again. Their seats give you more pitch than those on Cathy Pacific and the flight gets to BKK at around 5 PM rather than 11:30 PM as on Cathy Pacific.

Thai will not cancel the A380 unless there is some internal issue within the airline. The simple fact is that the flying time/time difference/airport operating hours between LHR and BKK limits them to two daily windows of opportunity to schedule their aircraft on the route and there is no excess capacity at Heathrow to offer them any additional slots unless Thai was willing to pay some prohibitive premium.

As with both Singapore and Qantas, Thai won't get any significant compensation for the delays to the A380 but, more likely, will be offered additional aircraft that are heavily discounted.

Thai are OK LHR-BKK in economy. So you don't get a personal TV but the seat is bigger than BA and BA have those damn retrofit tv things under many chairs. You get what you pay for and yes Thai has been resting on its laurals for years.

Personally, now being out of points, price and schedule is more important. I'm not paying an extra Bt15,000 for a TV !

I guess I really should have read the posts on this forum, I have not flown with Thai airways for over ten years but now I have booked to fly with them in february :clap2 .

The last time I used them it was great as they had young sexy Thai hostesses who handed out orchids on arrival at don muang.... don't tell me that they are still using the same planes and the hostesses are 10 years older :D !!!!

They were the cheapest this time for me but if I had booked my flight on time I could have saved several hundred euro.

Oh you live and don't learn!!!

You don't have to .......... fly with EVA. Prices are in line with Thai, same seat pitch in Y class and you get the TV thrown in.

I used THAI exclusivly for 6 years fo me and family ,had gold frequent flyer status, but gave up on them 4 years ago, ripoff pricing , poor service, old planes and they cheated me on my gold card points twice, now use emirates , EVA and Etihad.

I quite agree, I flew Thai business class direct to Jo'burg and it was OK...but if I pay a business class fare I expect better than OK. I only flew Thai because that was all that was available for my onward connection.

Definately flying Emirates business class back!!!

if u fly first or biz with thai, when u leave from new airport there is a premium checkin area and once checked in there is a premium customs area so you dont have to line up with cattle class (for immigration) like at don maung.

i dont know about earlier poster but believe thai now have new configuration with personal tvs on most first/biz class sectors now and in coach on most longhaul flights. you are just lucky in coach to get a personal tv on shorthaul asia to asia flights.

Thai doesn't have personal TVs in economy on any of its 747s .

Well about Thai airwyas I will tell you when I come back I am flying for the first time direct from LHR in 65 days and counting down :-) with Thai on the recomendation of friends who have used them before. Sure enough it was a real decision direct or stopping over but I thought for a few minutes and said to myself NO I want to get there in one plane!! Anyway I am really looking forward to it ! its been so long since I have been there Nov last year Ha !! Oh by the way when I was ther last year my friend and I were walking up the beach front from ws at about 5am as you do :-) when these two ladies came from nowwhere! The usual lovely sexy man etc putting their arms around us thinking here are to drunk idiots! Alas they did not know we were Irish and drunk or sober every pound/baht is a prisoner. Well we were not drunk just merry anywayI had 2k in one back pocket 2k in a front pocket and 2k in a place normally revealed only to slash or take BJ's lol. Next thing I knew was the money was being taken out of my back pocket and I shouted to my friend to watch his. I grabbed the girl by the arm opened her hand and removed my 2k! IAt that she ran with her mate to a scooter as I shouted after her POLICE and would you believe it the number plate which I was looking for had been removed. However I think she got the message !! don't f**k with the Irish either way! On a serious note be careful out there I have spoken to several locals I have got to know and this is not uncommon Pattaya is getting a bit like this. I don't like to scare monger because we all enjoy the place but its real it happened to me. Sorry I diversed but thats life! :D

Tom you may have miscontrued what i was trying to say.

I got upgraded at sydney on a 747 flight to BKK and 1st/biz had personal tvs. have no idea if it was in coach as well. have been on one thai 777 with personal tv in all classes but the rest only in 1st/biz.

Was reported in BKK Post last week that thai was thinking about buying some airbus 330's at the discounted rate of $90M in a settlemen with airbus due to the late delivery of thais 4 + 4 airbus 380'S. DELIVERY DATE NOW CIRCA 2009.

How any airline can expect you to travel in this day and age for 11 hours with still only the one big screen entertainment system is beyond me. ALL their competitiros now offer personal entertainment and some like EVA even offer the latest interactive versions - it was like flying Bedrock Air.

United has the same type of entertainment system as Thai, at least on their 747's that I fly. The best entertainment system that I've seen is the one that Singapore uses.

For me Thai economy is the best available, because iam 6"6 thai is the only comfortable option for me.

All other economy classes the seat in front touches my kneecaps :ang2

Yes for the majority there is better available 32 and 33 inch pitches is more than enough for most.

I have flown three times with thai and everytime i have found the food better than most and they are always up and down the aisles with drinks. On my return flight last month duck and a nice beef steak was on the menu which was very nice i ate two meals at each set meal time and was even offered more lol even though the plane was full plenty of food.I have been on other airlines and you dont even get an extra roll when you ask.

For the people who like a drink thai are one of the best imo although i dont drink during flights anymore, the guy in front of me was knocking them back :gulp I have been refused alcohol twice before once with BA and i think the other time was with klm,i was not drunk and had only had a couple of drinks :banghead It was a few years back where air rage seemed to be quiet common :banghead so i think some airlines thought it would be a good way of saving money and after two drinks say sorry you had enough :ang2

I think thai are the best out there ,yes entertainment is crap but i put comfort over entertainment for me at least and any other long legged freak :allright thai is the only option.

Good luck

If United Airlines is an option then they may have the best legroom. If you can become at least a premier elite in their FF program (25,000 paid miles) then they will place you in an area of economy called "Economy Plus" at no additional cost. This area has an additional 5" of legroom. You can also pay a onetime fee for a year and you are then placed in this area for any trip during the following year or you can pay an additional amount for each flight. I fly alot so I'm in that area at no cost and one other benefit for those flying frequently is that if your Premier Executive not only will they put you in this area automatically if there are any empty seats in the economy area, they will arrange them to be next to you.
