Hi Y'All

First message on this board and it looks great. Two questions

any recs for a good tailor?

any recs for an honest [i know , I know] estate agent? Looking to move to Big P in not too distant future.

Nick

They dont have tailors in Thailand - they have measurers. Then the measurements get sent to a sweat shop.

only recoommendation is to get one shirt and one pair of slack made letting the measurer know that if done well, you will order more. And check the work meticulously

I have never used the guy, but a friend of mine swears by a tailor called Will on Soi 6 about 2/3 doors up from Jimmy Mac's on right hand side going towards 2nd road .

Avoid a taylor who does business under the name of "George". He is located on 2nd rd about a block up from Walking St. Very poor work. I donated the suit and shirts he made for me to a charity for a tax writeoff.

They all have nice pictures of what they promise they can make ... but in the end, it is all rubbish. Wear a suit one time and it is ready for the bin! Bangkok has some decent tailors, but in Pattaya, all the Indians pretending to be tailors are a ripp-off.

Hi

Glad to recommend a good tailor! Go into Flipper Lodge on soi 8 and there you will find Jas the tailor has a shop within the hotel complex. I have bought several suits off him all have been first class. Although on saying that you get what you pay for there are cheap suits and they are well rubbish they are ok for a time or two. I have always gone for the wool blend about twice the price of these others but worth it. Especially if you are prepared to deal with Jas. :D

If you don't want to get a handmade suit made for you in the UK, go to Marks and Spencer. At least it won't fuck up on you.

If in London, go to Selfridges and get some handmade shirts tailored from block psizes from around GBP70 or so each, less in a sale. Very good quality.

One thing I do when having clothes tailor made in Thailand is I always bring plenty of American made thread with me and have the tailors use it on my items....the thread that most shops use is very weak and always seems to fall apart pretty fast. I use a shop in Korat that's owned and operated by a Thai couple and they sew all their clothes in shop, excellent quality but takes a few weeks to get them finished. You can even walk accross the street and buy the material you like and they will write down the reuired amount needed.
