I really, really, really want to come back for that week from Christmas through New Year's but every air fare I've been looking at for even an economy class ticket from either SFO or LAX is more, some times lot more, than I paid for business class in November. The cheapest I've found so far was about US$ 2,200 on JAL, but that required a 24-hour lay-over in Tokyo; their flight to BKK departs Narita at the same time my flight from SFO would be landing there.

Any suggestions, or am I just SOL until April?

Ummm. ANA. The one time I flew with them, they had some seriously cute flight attendants and great service. I'm sure I'd prefer them over UAL.

Unfortunately, I am seriously constrained by family and work obligations. I'll be with my brother and his family Christmas day, so I could leave on the 26th, but I can't be back at work any later than the 3rd of January. I have enough miles for a free ticket, but I just got off the phone with Delta, who checked every one of their partner airlines and there isn't an award ticket seat available for those dates on any of them.

Time to go buy a Lotto ticket, I guess.

wow, if you're that strapped for cash, just stay home

I've been to Pattaya during that time of year, and I can't say it was very enjoyable, just plain crowded

Suppose a Transit through the UK would not be much Cheaper ?

Know what you mean when you say " Really, Really Really want to go Back "

I've looked everywhere and $1900 is the best deal out of LAX or SFO.

I can't wait for Oasis Hong Kong to start out of Oakland, it should make the SFO-HKG route a bit cheaper.

Myself, I'll wait until the mid February madness. :allright

Good luck.

Also try looking at flying into Manilla/Singapore/Hong Kong, and then once there do a rt to BKK..

best of luck!

Trust me, I'm not strapped for cash, not even after my 3 weeks over over-indulgence in LOS in November. I'm just appalled by how much tickets are for that week, even in coach. The idea of paying more for coach than I paid for business class just a month ago bugs the hell out of me.

Damn, don't you guys ever stay home :allright Of course I wouldn't stay home either if I...

1) had the money for another trip,

2) didn't have to work, and

3) damn, I can't think of 3 but you get the idea.

Just a jealous rant

only other optioms, wich isn'i an option with your limited time is

Cathway's all asia pass, flight to hong kong, then to BKK. takes and exrta day because they don't leave the west coast till 11pm and you get into hk the next morning, but at least you can get a flight to BKK that day, but you ahve to fuck around same same going back.

I just flew ANA, business class w/ ff miles. I had to book 6 months ahead to get the flight. The attendants are the best! Not as hot as Thaiair IMHO...BUT cute and there must have been something in their training manual that said they could not break eye contact with you until after you broke it off. Gives me a woodie just thinking about it now.

JAL are cute as well :)

Cheers,

another possible option

fly to hawaii then connect with JAL or China Airlines - you would have to arrive very early in Hawaii as both flights depart early morn - CAL about 0700 and JAL about 9 or 10

He could take that flight the night of the 25th and get the maximum amount of time available to him on the ground in LOS.

I do as MM suggested and that is pay for my flights when the prices are low and use my miles when the prices rise. I must be one of the few that actually likes United as I've found their FF program one of the best and with them being part of the Star Alliance they will place you on Thai, ANA and Singapore flights. My next flight in January (freebie) they routed me to Beijing out of SFO on UA and then to BKK on Thai Air and I'm scheduled to get in at 10 PM instead of the usual 11 to 11:30 timeframe when I'm on United out of Narita.

I've flown on Thai, JAL, Cathay, Singapore, ANA, and EVA and I thought the cutest FA's were those of Singapore even though they don't show any skin with those uniforms. They do show every curve.

:drunk Halleluyiah!!! I'm saved!!! I'm coming back after all! :clap2 Between checking kayak.com daily and Sailfast's idea, I was able to find a fare I could live with this morning. SFO to HK, HK to BKK and return for $1,846 all in. I get in to BKK the night of the 27th and fly out the morning of the 2nd, just as I'd hoped to do.

Ahhhhhhhh, life is good.
