You still haven't answered my question. How many wiring harness did Airbus fuck up before they caught their mistake? BTW I was on a another vacation last week and missed that post. So many vacations so little time in between trips. :D

NEW YORK -- The Boeing Co. 787 Dreamliner is likely to make an appearance next month at the Farnborough Air Show, a biennial trade fair for some of the industry's biggest suppliers and customers.

 

Though the Chicago company has not made an announcement, industry insiders say they are aware of plans to fly the next-generation wide body aircraft to the U.K. in time for the week long event starting July 19. The 787 is undergoing tests to be certified before the end of the year, and passed 1,000 hours of flying time last week. Boeing estimates the already popular jet has completed about 40% of the testing. Shares of Boeing rose nearly 1% in recent trading to $68.05.

HONG KONG -- Boeing Co. has temporarily grounded a fleet of its 787 Dreamliner test aircraft after finding a problem in the horizontal tails, according a report Thursday in the Seattle Times. Boeing engineers were inspecting all 23 Dreamliner aircraft that have been built to fix the problem, which was discovered over the past week. It may take up to eight days to fix the problem, the report said. Dreamliner program spokeswoman Yvonne Leach said the problem was "regrettable but under control," and that the company decided to conduct the inspections. However, the schedule for completing flight testing and first delivery of the plane won't be delayed any further, she added, according to the report.

Quantas is running a sale from LA to Sydney using the A380 for $339 o/w plus tax. I'm thinking of booking a family vacation for later this summer using Quantas.

Only in your own mind. :allright That's why the Boeing 787 is in the test phase. Unlike the A380 where they had the engineering fuck up with the wiring harness fiasco when the A380 was in the production phase. Euro engineering at it's best. :D It's no mystery why Airbus has to keep going back to the EU taxpayer for more funds. EU taxpayer :D Airbus

Not the first time they have had trouble with their Italian sub-contractor.

 

"...Exactly a year ago, Boeing issued a stop-work order to Alenia's other 787 plant in Grottaglie, Italy, after Everett engineers discovered wrinkles in the 787 fuselage skins.

The wrinkles arose because the edges of the fuselage stiffening rods, called stringers, that Alenia had manufactured were way out of the specified thickness...."

 

This time it was a result of, "...Alenia mechanics in Foggia, Italy, improperly installed brackets used to attach the horizontal tail to the fuselage, according to people familiar with the problem.

The error, discovered during final assembly in Everett, involved small pieces of composite material, called shims, that are used routinely to fill small gaps when assembling structural parts.

The Alenia mechanics also applied too much torque when tightening fasteners through the brackets, Boeing confirmed.

As a result, the shims at the horizontal-tail attachment became compressed and the material degraded. Potentially, this could create a small amount of give in the structural join that would increase localized stresses and could cause fractures that shorten the life of the tail attachment.

"Shims were improperly installed in a manner that could lead to lower-than-expected longevity for a joint within the horizontal stabilizer," said Leach.

Leach said no actual cracks had been found and that the airplanes can be fixed without taking off the horizontal tail.

"It is not unusual for these issues to arise in the course of production programs," she said...."

I seem to remember the A380 was overweight, wings not meeting spec and let's not forget the wiring harness fuck up that halted production.

The a380 wing actually FAILED the wing test. It has to hold up to and including 150% of maximum stress and it failed at 145%.

Just read the article linked by spacebass and it looks like Vietnam Airlines is trying to use the press, that is negotiate with Boeing through the media. Not exactly new. According to Boeing the 787 does meet original spec and all the weight savings, as a result of design changes, will be incorporated into the planes Vietnam Airlines will received.

Weren't you the one who posted about the 787 flying in 2007, with deliveries starting in 2008??? :D

 

The reality is in only just made it's first flight with days to spare in 2009 and the testing program is finding weaknesses in the design and construction. It is a Nightmareliner...... not a Dreamliner

 

As I have said before... I am happy my taxes are being used to help support European Industry. :D

The American market is dominated by airlines that are loyal to Boeing..... so my taxes don't help provide lower airfares for Americans. :D

Another Euro guy who doesn't know what he's talking about. As MrMango has stated Airbus sells a lot of planes to the US Airlines. BTW be prepared for the EU taxpayer to dig even deeper in your collective pocket for more money as the R&D bill keep coming in for the A350 and the A380 program that's still deep in the red. :allright

Since my dear old grandpa was a citizen of Ireland, I have claimed Irish citizenship.
