Why pay ridiculous amounts of money for just a place to sleep?

Sorry Makavelli for using your words as an example, it was not my intention to flame you in person or anyone else!

I apologize for that and wish you and the missus a pleasant stay at the Marriot.

I just wanted to start a debate about the value of money and what you can get for it in the way of accomodation in Thailand!

During my 20 years of travelling to almost every province in the Kingdom, I have slept on if not an airmatress at least a sarong on the beach, I've stayed in tents and dormitories in national parks and in 40 baht simple bambu and coconutpalm huts on the beach without electricity and using a bucket of water as shower, I've stayed in hot sweaty mosquito infested local brothels with peepholes in the walls to noisy cubicles in BKK Guesthouses,

most expensive place I ever stayed in thailand was one night at the Little Duck Hotel in central Pattaya for 800 baht,
which was one of the dirtiest oldest and funkiest places I ever stayed in, I'd rather sleep on the beach under the stars anytime!

What I want to say is that wether one spends 1000 dollars or 10 dollars you cannot pay for happiness there are other things that counts more!

Plahgat................you say above that the most expensive place you have stayed was 800 baht, but if you are the same Plahgat that has many videos on the net with sexy Thai girls in the rooms.......how did you manage to get those places for less than 800 baht??? ............great videos by the way!!!

Maybe you are not the same guy and I have the names mixed up.

That's me OK! :D

Well, it's very simple really, because I stay longtime (min 5 months a trip) and I pay per month, for one month in a new clean aircon place with free inroom Internet connection, I pay between 12000-15000 baht per month all incl!

Cheaper price for Pattaya and slightly higher in Patong Phuket.

That comes to about 4-500 baht a night. Normal price for the same room per night about 700-1000 baht a night depending on the season.

I work in the Middle East. I live in a room that is 6 feet wide and maybe 10 feet long for 4-months at a time.

I get two weeks off every 3-1/2 - 4 months. I like to stretch out and enjoy a little bit of the comforts of home. I do not want to stay in a single room. I prefer a suite with a kitchen. When I come for an extended period of time I look around for a good monthly rate.

I travel from the east coast USA to stay only 8 nights. So i find the best place i can.

Lk Renaissance in 2 weeks, Sabai Resort looks good for May .The Marriott for Loy Krathong.

When i retire and can spend months the way you bastards from europe can,i'll post looking

for cheaper accomidations.

Hey Sailfast, only 2 more months until the sail ties come off./Bill

Off topic...sort of...

Bill: I just put the sail ties back on after a bareboat sailboat charter out of Pattaya Marina.

Cheap Charlies look out! That's 9000 baht per day (sit down Gabor...thats 18000 overnight, eeek I'm a lame dupe) and I had to do all the work. Two tiny bedrooms, one tinier toilet, stand up shower, two burner stove. AND I had to pay the bargirl to come with me....thank goodness she has an oral fixation! Price did not include breakfast or even the salt and pepper.

No, would not have traded it for a night at Skytop....oh and didn't bother to check out of my hotel so it cost me another 1400 baht on top of the 18000.

Give it a rest cheap charlies. People pay what they are comfortable with an they can afford. If I could afford first class airfare, limo, six true bisexual bargirls to wipe my ass at a top hotel then I would be here full time. Fuck, I'd pay a girl to wait in the car with my driver just in case I need a BJ in short notice...but I can't so I come on holiday and do what makes me happy within my budget.

I can't believe some if you guys purchased a computer. Lets see: 21000 baht for a PC would get you how many nights in the el cheapo lodge @ 350 baht/night? Fuck, why use toilet paper when there are so many leaves on the ground.

Cheers.

I am all for you enjoying your boat ,and to be honest 9000baht a day is not exhorbitant for what you were getting, some cheap charlies like myself would pay that as well (unless of course I could have negotiated a lower price), if that was what floated my boat ( sic pun) but I prefer boats with engines, my only complaint is when guys with extra cash tell me I should be paying more for ,sex, tips, hotels ,bike hire ,massages and any of a host of other services .It does happen, especially when I, and others, give advice on holidaying on a budget in Pattaya.I too would fly first class if i could afford it ,but i would never presume to tell those less well of than myself that they should pay more than they need to,and would hope for the same consideration from those better off than me,unfortunately there are a number of board members who feel it is their right to set the price for my holiday ,based only on their spending power and not mine.

PS I hope you enjoyed the boat .

Why pay rediculous amounts of money for a car ? A 10 year old ford will take you down the road just as well as a new Mercedes, Cadillac, Lexus or BMW !.

Why buy a £500 suit when a £5 pair of jeans are just as comfortable.

Whats the point in having surplus cash if you dont spend it ?

If you have got it Spend it - No point in being the richest guy in the graveyard.

And the other side of the coin is that by saving money when I was in my late 30's/40's enabled me to retire to Thailand to live at the age of 50 with no financial worries whatsoever.

I have even managed to save money in the time that I have lived here, which will give me an even better life in the future.

Your right a 10 y/o car will get you down the road but not as reliably or with all the new safety features as safely.

Kind of hard to make a presentation to senior management in jeans and a tee shirt unless you work at an ad agency.

Spend your money wisely and you should go broke the day after your buried.

It funny how the LDOP will resent guys like you and me who started to save at an early age because we wanted to enjoy our retirement and not be balloon chasers.

Why do you assume that those to whom you refer to as LDOP didn't start to save at an early age? Is there some sort of corellation between the two?

Anyway, it's a bit rich likening yourself to eneukman whom, I believe, retired to LOS in his early fifties and owns a property here.
