I need 26,000 United miles. Can someone tell me how this works and how much it will cost? I noticed someone mentioned .01 a mile but is that all it costs or are there fees involved and if so how much are they? Thanks for the help.

I'm sure the more knowledgeable will respond, but I have to ask you are you wanting just FFM miles or EQM (Elite Qualifer Miles)? The EQM's are the holy grail of the yearly mileage accrual, since they generate huge benefits in the following years (upgrades. short lines, access to lounges, etc), whereas FFM miles are only good for free travel..which is not a bad thing.

MM, Don't know much about the EQM miles I am just looking for FFM to get free travel. I have heard that a person can only receive 15,000 miles transfer in one year. Does any one know anything about this rule and if there is a transfer fee or mileage transfer rate?

What FFM program are you with? I think it depends on who your miles are with.

Martin, United miles are a flat fee of $35 PLUS a cent a mile, up to a maximum of 15,000 per person selling them to you, i.e. US$185 for 15,000 miles.

Presumably, two people could each sell you 15,000 miles. Not certain.

But not so fast. I THINK no one but family can sell you miles, but please check on that. The only times I've been involved were in intrafamily transfers/sales, so that rule sort of flew past and I might be misinterpreting, or getting it all wrong. The price I am certain about.

From Uniteds web site,

"Each recipient is limited to a total of 15,000 miles per calendar year from all individuals under the Mileage Plus Transfer Miles program."

I just helped a friend transfere miles from his 2 sisters accounts (with 19,000) miles each into his and his wifes accounts. I could only transfere 15000 into each account and in 1000 mile incruments.

Too bad they had enough miles between them to top off thier accounts but they had to buy a few.
