Soi Buakhao guesthouse/hotel pick

Recommended Posts

I have always been intrigued by this area of Pattaya due to many different reasons as there are some that feel the same way. Staying in the Soi Buakhao area is a mystery to me and I am asking for input for what I tend to look for in a guest house or hotel.

I am hoping my question and seeking your input may help other newbies who want to stray from the typical Soi 13, Soi 2, Jomtien and Naklua areas.

1) What hotel/guesthouse would you recommend for a [/b]suite, not a room, one that has more than the usual, such as space which I like and largesse bathrooms since some of us are not thai size. Internet would be a big plus since most BM's upload tr's and pics from their rooms.

It does not matter if the suite is a bungalow or guesthouse/hotel...Just as long as there is room to hang around with your tilac... :ang2

Room service/ restaurant on premises helps, which I do like in a hotel. If there is a front patio to watch the world and especially the ladies go by...even better...

2) Now for the pool fans. If I were to add a pool and/or jacuzzi, is there such a hotel with all of #1 plus a pool/jacuzzi???

3) For the cheap charlies, recommend a guesthouse with the amenities above with or without a pool/jacuzzi, BUT just a room not a suite...

NOTE: Even the hotels on the side streets of Soi Buakhao are acceptable to recommend.

This area IMHO is not renowned for the type of accomodation you are enquiring about,it does however provide ample choice of very comfortable cheap/fairly priced rooms in general.

Among the exceptions are the LKMetropol which has a wide variety of good rooms/suites plus good internet and a pool.

Further down Soi Bukhaow towards South Pat rd sits the Sunview Hotel which has internet and a pool.On Soi lengkee there are 2 places J&P/Opey de place Hotels both having a variety of rooms/internet/pool at reasonable costs,by no stretch of the imagination luxorious but popular.

Finally on Soi LKMetro there is the "Keerati" homestay, quite well appointed with all the requirements specified, however the pool is the Metropol one due to a deal being struck, and my understanding is that use of the gym is also permitted. On this Soi also abound many "Guesthouse types of lodgings, mostly very comfortable and cheap especially if rented on a longer time frame,to many to name!

I stayed at Keerati Home Stay for the month of June 2006.

It's probably the only place I can think of that meets most of your needs short of the Metropole itself, which is incredibly overpriced IMO. And yes you have access to the pool and gym at the metropole because they share ownership. Internet in the rooms and a restaurant down stairs now that I'm betting will do delivery/room service.

I paid 19k plus electric in the month of June for the medium size room, which remember is the slow season. It is more of a studio than an apartment, but has a kitchen off the bedroom area.

I posted a review at the time on here (Check the hotel review section. Vikingfan is one of my old names).

And it has a deck, which in my case faced the back of the Metropole just across the alley!

Or you can find a thai place in the area that doesn't have the internet, the pool, the gym or the room service but is:

1) Twice the size.

2) Considerably cheaper.

3) A lot friendlier.

I've been opting for the later recently and like it a lot better.

I don't really need the underlined above because Pattaya has:

1) Free internet in lots of places. I use the wifi at Canterbury Tales while I have breakie with Dave.

2) There are beeches in Pattaya! The thais use them. So can you.

3) Exercise? Ugh! Enough said!

4) Room service? Send the teelack out for food! There are always 2-3 food carts wtihin 100 meters of my front door. And Numchai, the best thai food on Soi Bhuakow is only a few blocks away.

Quit cluttering up my neighborhood with fancy-shmancy falang joints and enjoy something a little closer to Thailand.

Sa-teef,

Keerati Home looks interesting. I am having trouble finding their website.

In room Internet is important to me. I need to make and receive calls over the Internet to attend to business. Did you use the in room internet? Is it wireless or hard wired?

Is there an in room safe?

Thanks

And as far as I know you're right.

You might consider doing a search on here for Keerati because I did post the e-mail address for Ohn their desk clerk (who is family as I recall) last summer. If you can't find it PM me and I'll try to search and find their business card that she wrote it on. Sounds kinda strange I know, but they seem to stay full without going to the trouble and expense of a website.

When I was there the internet was wired to the rooms, but I believe they have wifi for the place now?

My only knock on the room I had was it was kind of dark with all the dark wood and smaller windows.

If I stayed there again for an extended stay I would probably opt for the largest room because they have windows on two sides and two balconies. The corner rooms are the large rooms obviously (windows on two sides?) in the first picture.

The room looks very nice! Do the rooms at the Keerati have in-room safes? I prefer having one when I stay in Pattaya! :D

There was a new place on Soi LK Metro that was close to opening when I left last week, believe its called the Pasadena and is located across from the Cock and Bull.

For those of you that need an in room safe, you can buy them at Carrefour starting at 700 baht.

I don't think that the owners of the hotel would take kindly to people drilling holes in their rooms to secures an in room safe!!!

That's great news "Emil" as they seem to have been hammering forever at least for 1year plus during my previous 2 trips,I understood it is somehow related to the PAPAGOYA (Spelling?) on Soi Dianna!

You don't have to drill a hole for the safe if your only looking to put your things in a secure location. It wopuld look pretty ovious for a BG to be walking out the door past security with a safe in her hands. Also you could also check with management to see if they wouldn't mind having a safe installed in the room as it would be a selling point for future guest, afterall you didn't really want to lug one back home.

As I have not noticed a listing for a website or an e-mail address it would be sort of hard for me to find out or ask them. Secure is a metal safe bolted into the room like many of the other places in that same area for me. That's why I asked the question if they had any in room safes in the rooms. People who been there tells us about the rooms can easily answer with a yes or a no here. That is what this forum is for... to ask question and seek answers. :banana

A 700B safe? What is it made of plastic? :D

I was wondering what you'd get for 700bahts! I carry around a PacSafe, which is a ballistic reinforced nylon portable safe which costed me a lot more then 700 bahts here in the US. I prefer having a real metal one like the ones in the Jasmine Mansion, LK Metro or Rockhouse which are right in that same area.

Chaba Hut Resort on Soi Bukao---- pool, bungalos, nice.

Areca lodge---pool and suites. Soi Diana.

Keerati uses Metropole pool, suites---Web contact via LK site---

Rock House apartment--no pool, no room service.

Jasmine-- no pool, Soi Bukao.

Sa-teef, Emil, Stevoman, Stinger_SD, Kunjon, and any and all BM's who have given some valuable info and asked questions that just brings more information to the table. Thank You very much!!!

I am interested in a bigger room. I have stayed in many rooms and some are just big enough for a king bed with a shower behind the bathroom door which is really tight when you are staying there for a year~!!!....

Any room that is large enough to have a couch to sit down and eat with your thai girl would be great. And a bed and large enough bath would be the ticket for an extended stay.

this is why, my main reason, is in the future I am wanting to take an extended vacation for about a year off from work. Soi Buakhao comes to mind as the perfect place to stay thats reasonable and with the right girl, can be a true GFE place to take a break from the world.

LK Royal Suites, Mansion, Pavilion, was one that I researched and I do remember the post by Sa-teef months back of this hotel. I likewise think the Metropole is overpriced but nice digs nonetheless.

I will do more legwork this trip in November to check out rooms and hotels to see more of the area. I am determined to find a nice place to stay for a year with large enough room to hang around with a thai girl during my stay.

Again, thank you for all the contributions to this post. :D

Like you said the forum is to seek answers. My response about buying a safe was for those who might not have thought that could be an option. The 700 safe was metal and one should never try to compare the cost of something in LOS with what one would pay in the states. I pay about $25 to be picked up at the airport in Bangkok and driven about 100 miles to my apartment in Pattaya and $27 to be picked up at my house and driven in a shared mini van to my local airport in the states about 10 miles away. Does that mean the car in LOS is made of plastic? Like I said they start at 700 and that one would only hold small items. Or you could buy the larger one that took two Thais to carry and if you try to move it without opening it the alarms sounds. One needs to do a cost analysis. If your going to be in Pattaya for lets say 20 days and you have 2 places to choose that meet all your criteria except the safe and the one with the safe costs 200 baht a day more, then you could spend up to 4000 baht and break even. If you were planning on a return trip and made any friends that live in Pattaya you could let them use it until you return. If money is no object then stay at the Dusit.

First off, thanks for letting us know that the 700 baht safe you were talking about is made of metal as others were wondering what it was made of!

Seconds, what does your example of cost to and from the airport and the taxi/car being made of plastic (but if you look carefully now a days there is a lot of plastic being used on todays cars now :moon ) have to do with my original question if the hotel/apartment in question does or doesn't have an in room safe? I do know that things cost different then the in the US as I've been traveling to Asia for the past 10 years.

Third, my asking questions here and finding out what hotels and apartments have that meet my requirements and have an in room safe that fits my budget. Money is an object and I try to spend it wisely. :sosad (Now who said money was no object... I wish it wasn't? :moon ) And your example of a room with or with out a safe costing 200 bahts more is off base because how can you compare rooms on a equal to equal basic. You can't because they are all different and the value of one room to another from hotel to hotel is dependent upon your requirements. You'd have to show me one hotel/apartment in Pattaya that have like rooms for rent with and without a safe that are 200 bahts difference in cost to be able to prove your point. As far as I've seen, you either have hotels that have in room safe or they don't have them. I might be wrong on that point, but all the hotel/apartments I've looked at are that way so far.

Fourth, why do I want to buy something in Pattaya and leave it with someone else who I just met!? I don't that here in the US so why would I do that in Pattaya? That's an option that people can take into account but I feel that most people would rather get a room with a safe rather then going out and buying one. Simple as that. If you want buy a safe, use it, then leave it with someone else to use it and then come back 6 month or a year later and try to get it back. Great go ahead and be my guest.

Lastly, the Keerati Home Stay looks like a great place to stay from looking at the pictures posted here. Now if someone could answer my original question of if they do or do not have in room safes, then the Keerati Home Stay will be on my list of places to stay at in future trips to Pattaya!

You brought up your nylon pacsafe which cost you more than 700 baht here in the states and implied that a 700 baht safe couldn't be made of metal.

I'm not going to show you any rooms in Pattaya, you would look at them yourself and if you found two acceptable rooms and one has a safe but cost 200 baht more and you were staying for 30 days then your break even point would be a safe that cost 6000 baht. Any more then your better off with the room with the safe, if the safe cost less then your money ahead. If you know someone who will keep it for you until you return then your saving will be that much greater on your future trips. If you can't find someone to take it for you, your still baht ahead as long as you didn't pay more than 6000.

There are many ways to stretch your Pattaya budget, you just have to do a little legwork.

Where in my original statement listed below did I imply that a 700 baht safe couldn't be made of metal?

"I was wondering what you'd get for 700bahts! I carry around a PacSafe, which is a ballistic reinforced nylon portable safe which costed me a lot more then 700 bahts here in the US. I prefer having a real metal one like the ones in the Jasmine Mansion, LK Metro or Rockhouse which are right in that same area.".

What I did say was that I prefer a metal one "like" the in-room safes at the Jamine Mansion, LK Metro or Rock House. Get your fact straight before you make a statement. Tell me your 700 baht metal safe is the same as the electronic metal safes in these hotels? Or have you even seen one of those in-room safes before?

I'm not going to show you any rooms in Pattaya, you would look at them yourself and if you found two acceptable rooms and one has a safe but cost 200 baht more and you were staying for 30 days then your break even point would be a safe that cost 6000 baht. You're not going to show me any hotel rooms because you can't produce any to back up your statements. Your just spitting out a theory and throwing out number and that's all you are doing. You got nothing to back you up except a wild theory. Like I said you cannot compare a room from one hotel to another hotel because they are all different so don't waste my time. I think that no one here is even going to think about going out and buying one of your 700 baht safe because it's to much trouble. You've convinced no one but yourself that it's a good idea to buy one. You are just trying to save faith because you made this statement and now you're saying anything you can to save faith!

And like I said, why the heck would I want to buy a safe and then give it to somebody in "hope" that he'll give it back when I return. What if he moves or dies or gets in an accident before I get back then I'm out 700 bahts, right? That's way to much trouble for 700 bahts. So tell me, have you bought one of these 700 baht safe and do you now have a friend who stores it for you when you return to the states?

I'd rather spend that 700 bahts at a beer bar while having fun with the girls.

I don't check my posts EVERY DAY so sorry if it's been four days since my original post!

And Emil had a distinguished career pinching pennies in military contracting, so I'm not about to challenge his analytical skills, which infact I happen to agree with. His cost comparison is right on the mark.

His suggestion is only that, a suggestion and it has merit if you are in that particular situation.

All things being equal is always a term that is best judged by the consumer himself obviously.

In my original review of the place I neglected to mention the safe in the closet.

Keerati Review

And BTW quite a lot of us leave things behind when we travel to Pattaya. I typically leave a suitcase at the place I will be staying on my next trip and it's always been there so far. When I arrived at Keerati my suitcase was already in the room! Nice touch compared to typically having to follow them back into a storage room and lugging it upstairs myself. All that is in it is some clothes, my tea kettle and some dishes but it saves me the aggravation of checked bags on the airlines. Anything of real value I take back with me.

What's the electric tea kettle for? Well:

1) Coffee for me in the morning after...well you know.....and the teelack goes back to sleep, and

2) Thai noodle soup in the middle of the night when someone gets hungry. You know, Ramen soup? Dirt cheap in ten packs at Carrefour and the ladies will love you for it! :allright

To answer your question directly:

Yes, Keerati did not have inroom safes when I stayed there. They also had the typical lock boxes located behind the desk, which to be honest weren't in a location I would consider that secure. There were a number of occasions when I got home quite late that the desk clerk was curled up on the sofa behind the desk sleeping and I just reached around and behind the desk to get my room key out of the pigeon hole rather than wake him. The safe in my room was big enough for small items but not laptop size. In my room it was in the traditional place; bolted to the inside of my storage area.

-------------------------------------------------

I noticed in May quite a lot of construction going on in the corner of the "L" in Soi LK Metro. Is that the new hotel being discussed by chance? Didn't appear to be quite that far along but it would be good news if it was.

Thank you Sa-teef for giving me a straight answering my original question on if the Keetati Home Stay did or did not have them in-room safe.

But I also still concur that every room is still different from hotel to hotel and it is difficult to judge them as being "alike" unless they are rooms within the same hotel! Now it can also work the other way too on those room calculations! :banana What if we have "like" rooms but the room with the safe is 200 bahts cheaper then the room without the safe. Then you can say that you getting the saving emil calculated plus the 700 bahts you would not of spend buying a safe. Or you could say you were saving 400 bahts a day because said room with the safe should be 200 higher then the room without the safe!!! Cold cut figures but they don't really make a difference because the rooms are really not alike. It's just to iffy to judge rooms being like between hotel to hotel and then setting a cold cut price difference between them. That's mainly because like rooms for one person will not be that for another person because we all have different opinion on how they should be. Is every Best Western hotel the same price across the US because they have like rooms? No! Because they are different and location comes into play too.

Sorry if I went on and on about the subject! But it's not really as cut and dry as people try to make it! :clap1

Thanks you again for your answer to my question!

It was implied when you went to the trouble to quote another poster who asked if it was plastic.

I'm not going to show you any room because I wouldn't waste any of my time for someone like yourself who can't figure out a possible way to save a baht.

If you read my post a little closer where I talked about a larger safe that took two Thais to carry and that sounds an alarm when it is moved without being opened then you might not ask me if I bought the small 700 baht safe. Let me also add that Carrefour delivered it for free and within the 2 hour time period that they had told me. It really was a simple process but for someone who has more money than time then I wouldn't recommend it.

Since I maintain an apartment year round in Pattaya there is no need to ask a friend to store it but if I did I'm sure that one of my friends that do live year round in Pattaya would store it for me, especially since I'm always taking things back to the states to mail to their families and bringing things back to Pattaya for them. And before you started acting like you know it all, I would have been happy to store it for you, now I know why you don't have anyone who would keep it for you.

The few in room hotel safes that I've seen where either secured to a shelf in the wardrobe or inside a small set of drawers to some pressed wood. A guy with a pry bar would have no trouble ripping it out.

Indeed every room is different, but just because you pay more for a room that doesn't necessarily mean that it is a better room than the cheaper one. Ithink I've stayed in 10 different hotels in Pattaya and each succeding hotel was not only cheaper but a better room. On of the things that I do for exercise while in Pattaya is take about a 2 hour walk each day and change the route each day. Soi 7 was one of my primary walking mates and we covered every soi between Beach Rd and Sukhumvit and Pattaya Nau and Pattaya Tai while occassionly hitting Naklua, Jomtien and east of Sukhumvit. Before Soi 7 starting working for Secrets we would check out the new places that had just opened and post photos and reviews of these places to help other boardmembers so I've seen quite a few hotels in Pattaya.

There is one more possibility for someone that doesn't have any friends to look after and use their safe that I failed to mention and that is sell it to another boardmember. Lets say you buy the safe for 4k to save 8K of rent. Your 4k ahead, then before you leave you sell it for 2k and now your 6K ahead, now you can go to Hell and have a great time, and later on hit a soappie instead on spending 700 baht in a beer bar.

It was implied when you went to the trouble to quote another poster who asked if it was plastic.

So you "assumed" I thought it was plastic because of what another person posted asking if it was made of plastic. But in reality I didn't know but wondered what it was made of. Not very good logic in your case.

I'm not going to show you any room because I wouldn't waste any of my time for someone like yourself who can't figure out a possible way to save a baht

You're not showing me because you have no examples because the hotel rooms across Pattaya are all different and you cannot give me a valid example like I said earlier. Hey I'm saving 700 bahts by not taking your advice and not buying the safe you are taking about! And getting a room of my choice after I research it! As I like trying hotel/apartments in different area of Pattaya each time I come.

Point taken that you bought a large safe. What does that have to do with someone getting a 700 baht safe for their hotel room that you are talking about in the first place?

Since I maintain an apartment year round in Pattaya there is no need to ask a friend to store it but if I did I'm sure that one of my friends that do live year round in Pattaya would store it for me, especially since I'm always taking things back to the states to mail to their families and bringing things back to Pattaya for them. And before you started acting like you know it all, I would have been happy to store it for you, now I know why you don't have anyone who would keep it for you.

So you have an apartment here or friends here and you could store the safe with. How does that apply to most people who come here come here for a set period of time (be it a couple of days or a couple of months) and who might have time to mingle with the local people within that time. Do you think they would buy a 700 baht safe and leave it with just anybody for a long period of time?

I don't know it all or I wouldn't be here asking questions to find the answer. And you would not be a person who I would trust anything with because you're the one who seem to know it all by the way you talking. You are the one who is tell people that they can save thousand of bahts by buying one of these 700 baht safe. It's an opinion people can choose but you fail to realize that do this is more trouble then it is worth. People like me come to Pattaya to have a good time, find a nice hotel room/apartment with or without a safe at a reasonable price, meet new friends, play with the girls and have a general all around good time. Not spend my time buying a safe where as I can find a room with a safe that meets my standards!

And nasty remarks that you know that I can't make friends while I am here just shows how unintelligent and arrogant you are, when you get frustrated and cannot convince me that I should buy a 700 baht safe because it's going to save me thousands of bahts.

I make friends easily and I'm very easy going and get along with the girls very easily and I have made friends all over the world that I met in Pattaya. Germans, Sweds, Austrians and fellow Americans from across the country. But I take a stand when someone is trying to snow me under you are.

The few in room hotel safes that I've seen where either secured to a shelf in the wardrobe or inside a small set of drawers to some pressed wood. A guy with a pry bar would have no trouble ripping it out.

Nothing is fool proof and if anyone wants to steal something bad enough they will do it!. And then again how safe is a 700 baht safe in the same type room that isn't bolted down?

I try to stay a a hotel/apartment that has as much security as possible that I feel safe at. For example. The last hotel (this past Feb 2007 for the whole month) I stayed at had one entrance into the hotel and you needed your room key to swipe the attached card to get access to the door to get to the only stairway to head up to your room. You had to walk thought the small front lobby, restaurant and the owners office to get to the entrance of the stairway. Not fool proof, but I felt that a thief might try someplace easier then where I was staying. And those safe do weight a bit so they might be a sight to see as they carry it down the stairs open the electronic door and walk thought the restaurant and front desk with said safe.

Then again you mentioned before that it was highly unlikely that a bar girl (who might be visiting my room) wouldn't be likely walking down the stair of the hotel carrying one of those 700 baht safes! Trying to make it sound like I'd be safe having one in my room! The bolted hotel safe is not secure but your 700 baht safe is??? Come on get real! Even the heavy safe you said bought can be stolen. And if you say it can't be then your very foolish. If someone wants it bad enough they will get it and if you are gone for any length of time, a couple of guys can carry it out wrapped in blanket to muffle the alarm!

You finally agree that rooms are different! Amazing! I never said that paying more for one room then a cheaper room that I'm getting a better room. You are the one saying all this and implying that I'm thinking that way! And now you're telling me about your exercise routine with Soi 7 and that you've seen tons of Pattaya hotels. But Soi 7 was the one doing all the reporting and providing all the "facts". And yet with all the tons of hotels you've seen you couldn't give me one example where "like" rooms are 200 bahts difference with or without a safe when you first starting giving me that example and before we got so deep into this discussion! Something smells fishy here! If you knew something you would of provided some examples to back up your statement earlier. If I was going to tell anyone on a forum here that they'd save 200 bahts somehow, I'd back it up with facts to cover my tail. I would provide good example so there would be no question that I was correct in my statement.

Possibility! You mean you haven't already convinced some to do it! And now you're talking about a 4000 baht safe!!! What happened to the 700 baht safe? And once again your just talking theory again about saving 8000 bahts. Where's a valid example that you can show me? People don't buy theory's unless you can prove it! You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to get a "like" room that has a safe and it's the same price as the room with out a safe? Then I don't have to go thought all the trouble and time to buy a safe, then find someone to sell it too. And I'll go to the beer bars and Hell Club anyway and have more time to boot!

Like I said above, if I make a statement that you're going to save 200 bahts I'm going to provide facts and examples to prove my point and cover my ass. You have not done this time and time again and only have provided a theory to work on. Where are your valid examples to prove that it can be done? Not your here say, but valid black and white example that you can point to to show me that this can be done?

Once again I don't know it all and I'm here on the board to learn and get "facts" on what I want to know. You're making all the suggestions, possibility's and theory's and telling me about your exploring of tons of hotels so you are talking like you're the "know it all" with a new possibility every time you reply. Not me! So please don't bother to reply to me again since everything you said I've rebutted. Because all this is all growing old and I don't want to get any more into the topic. I've proved my point and you haven't been able to provide me with real black and white examples. My original question has been answered so I'm done with all your theory's and possibility's. You have wasted enough of my time, so I will go back to reading other articles here and on other Pattaya type forums. Go and try and convince someone else to buy your 700 baht safe. Cause I ain't buying it! The safe or your ideas! Good bye and good luck to you.
