Any free Wi-Fi on the beach?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, thnx for the list of free wi-fi locals around town, found them very useful. Just wondering if anyone knows of a location where u can sit on the beach & pic up free wi-fi. Tried a couple of places around Pats & Jomtien without success.

The beaches are mainly public property so it is unlikely. You could access internet on an EDGE/GPRS network though, via your mobile phone. You might tempt fate and need to keep an eye on your laptop if you go for a swim.

Well, in addition to the probability of theft, you have the advantages of sand in the keyboard and salt on the screen.

Doing online "work" at the beach sounds romantic. SOUNDS romantic.

He's asking for info on free wifi access. When he needs security and housekeeping advice THEN he will ask for that too.

Until such a point,fuck off.

Well, if you want to sit and look at the beach while you play n your computer you could always try the Starbucks at Royal Garden Plaza. They have an outdoor patio overlooking Beach Road and the sea. I think they charge, though.

You could try a WiFi USB amplifier which can, theoretically, pull signals 1KM away. That should allow you to sit on the beach and catch a signal from a nearby hotspot.

Well, I haven't done that. So now that you are backed into your pititful corner after your un-threat, your next step will be to do exactly what?

Hmmmm?

Yes, that's what I thought you'd think. Good idea, in my opinion. Just be careful about the hair growth on your hand because sometimes I really think you're doing it too much -- not that you should let my concern stop you, perish the thought.

Jack, here's a thread on the topic from a couple of years ago:

http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/index.ph...mp;hl=free+wifi

I know the Sportsman on Soi 13 and Shennanigans have free wifi. A couple of searches might turn up more locations.

Thanks Jimmac ,I have only just got the laptop so have never bothered with laptop threads as they did not at the time relate to me.

Not long now before you head to Fun town enjoy and we will meet again soon I hope.

Jack

Why let your fingers make threats you can't even begin to back up? You enjoy attention being called twice each time to how silly you looked the first time? Or what? You can't do a thing about it. Get over it. Or not, som nam na.

  • 2 weeks later...

For those that r interested. U can sit on the beach & have free wifi 4 as long as ur battery will last around soi 4 & 5, beach road, Pattaya. ofcourse u could also just go to the source & sit in the lobby of the Northshore Hotel in soi 5 & plug ur laptop into a wall socket & b online 4 free all day if u wish. l often sit on the beach while online for a couple of hours there without useing a plug in high gain antenna, using only the built-in LAN in my laptop. Works fine! Thanx for ur help guys :hijack

Am I the only one that thinks people tapping away on their laptop on a beach, in a cafe, at the airport, are just posers ? If something is so urgent, why did you go on holiday ? Why not finish everything before you go away ?

To me, it's akin to talking loud on a mobile phone on the train. Of course if you have a bid for a leather thong for 50p on E-Bay to keep an eye on - go ahead.

But I am just an old fart, who is easily irritated. :D

Did it occur to you that perhaps the only way the individual on the computer can get a holiday or get as many holidays is if they do some work while on holiday? If that's way you could get time in Pattaya, would you do it?

It's also possible the guy on the computer is just reading his local newspaper from home.

So, no computer no holiday ? What sort of holiday is it that you can't relax and forget work ? Might as well have stayed at home and read the paper - posers !!

You need to forget work for weeks at a time, some people can forget it for most of a day at a time.

I guess you wouldn't stay home and read a paper because you obviously can't read my original post!

O.K you have to do some work on holiday. But on the beach ? Why not later in your room, or at an internet cafe ? - posers. Look at me! I am so important that I have to be working. A guy I worked with used to take his laptop on flights to Canada. He had no work to do, but it made him feel good to tap away at a keyboard. He only got found out because one of his workmates was on the same flight across the aisle. - poser. :D

I open up my computer at the airport....... nice to grab some free fast internet connection. Sometimes post on this forum from there. Wouldn't hardly regard myself as a poser.

There are a lot more people in this world who open computers on airplanes to do real work or to play games or to listen to music or to watch movies than open then to make themselves feel good.

As for "Look at me!", I don't give a shit whether people look at me when I have a computer open or whether they don't. For many opening a computer is no different than opening a mobile phone or any number of other devices modern people tend to carry around.

If I found it advantageous to use a computer on the beach because it gave more time for TGs when back in my room I would do so.

There won't be one hanging out of one of the palm trees, but a target for you could be coffee shops. Starbucks has it but charges, Coffee World in Bangkok has it for free, just buy a 65bht coffee and you can sit all day. Don't know if they have branch in Pattaya, they also seem to sometimes share shopfront with Subway.
