as many say about competitive room prices, well this is fact but doesnt only occur here in thailand but worldwide. about skytop prices for rooms being compared to Berts or elsewhere that is only comparing the price of our extra big rooms at B850. dont forget that we also have rooms for B650 and B450 plus non aircon for B400 and yes is popular for the budget minded or the tourist who sees a room as just somewhere to sleep. all rooms have new mattresses and they are not the cheap, hard thai ones. So keep in mind that not all accomodation houses are the same because not true. you have to make rooms with the space available to you. Another thing any serious business person knows that you have to put money earned back into your business for improvements and repairs.

BigD and Skytop in the same subject.... how... surprising. :bow

:D

I've not stayed at Denny's friend guest house/hotel , but have seen the picture of the room with see thru windows curtains at the lower portion, and no covering of window at the top at all. And, the bathroom where there is no direct light for shaving, etc., and the wall stops before it reaches and joins the ceilling.

So, my question is why should board members who have stayed at this place, and had to sign the "Stay Agreement" which I've never heard off or seen at any other hotel/guest house, not be able to come on the board and voice their disagreement with Denny for being a champion of this place that his friend owns and that he stays at.

It was pointed out on the long running bigdusa topic, that they is better value for the same amount of money. It was very easy to see those differences in the websites that were provided.

IMO it is a mistake for Denny to keep on recommending Skytops on this board and to the attention of Newbies, as there is obviously other places that provide better value.

As long as he does, they will be those who counter his claims.

The comparison made between Skytop and Seaside Guesthouse compared two rooms of a similar price. Like the Skytop, the Seaside also has cheaper rooms for the budget conscious traveller. It also has new mattresses and, unlike the Skytop, the beds have decent quality bed linen and blackout curtains that actually cover the windows.

Guys doing a 10-20 stretch for armed robbery might think Skytop has a familiar look to it!

Its a great example of what some of us have been saying against BigDs spamming.

One place is all crisp linen, fitted curtains and a floor wirth a shine.

The other is eh, well shockingly poor. It isnt even adequate, never mind " lets recommend it to everyone on the FLB board".

Edit - forgot to mention JackCorbett as telling BMs to go there. Hold your heads in shame guys. Your friendship with Pete has made you mislead hundreds of BMs.

If you follow your nose very good value can be found here in Pattaya.

Here are some pics of my 500 baht room in The Captain's Bar & guesthouse on soi 11 (Honey Inn).

Its not big enough to play soccer or go bowling. It is big enough to shit, shower, shave and shag.

Features include:

Bolted-down in-room safe

Excellent inside-outside bar playing oldies (no techno shite)

Very good English brekkie 90 baht and good pub grub (chili, shepherd's pie, pork chops, sandwiches, 24/hrs)

Beer 50-55 baht: Chang, Tiger, Heinie, Sing, San Mig.

First-rate Brit-Thai ownership (Gerry & Lek) on the premises 24/7, and a selection of nice, un-pushy TGs.

It does lack one thing:

NO phony "legl" contract to hose down tired, jet-lagged punters at 2 a.m

Your post fits your handle. You keep going on and on how poor and or shit place Sky-Top is. First of all the tile floor does have a nice shine to it or have you forgotten. Linen is clean and yes it may not be as crisp as the 800 count Egyptian cotton sheets you sleep on but they are soft to the touch. No it's not "well shockingly poor". At it's price point it's good value for the money.

JohhnyK,

Nice small room for 500 a night. My room at Sky-Top has a king size bed and has room for another bed plus a sitting area with a couch. In room free internet is another plus. True my room cost more but I'm willing to pay the extra because I don't like to live in a shoebox.

mulphy,

Excellent room for the price and for guys who like your area of town. I recommend they go for it but I prefer to be one block from the beach and around the corner from soi 6.

BigD:

For those unfamiliar with that part of Pattaya, "one block from the beach" may be a little misleading, as those streets connecting Beach Road and Second Road are longer than normal for a US city block (more of a long rectangle than a block). Not to mention you have to battle across Second Road, with all it's trucks and buses belching exxhaust. That part of Pattaya doesn't have a very "beachy" feel IMO, more of a city feel.

Good stuff McDusa. You always get me laughing. My post was the 11th and was an answer to another post.

Skytop is more than a block from the beach and in the 5 weeks I was there one person was killed and two injured crossing that part of second road. I remember seeing a crash too. Its because theres 3 side sois all coming on to second road at about the same place.

And you cant seem to grasp what we are all saying. Skytop isnt good value for money. Its bad value. Kao jai? :D And again your misleading by comparing Johhny Ks example with an 850bht room. Skytops rooms at 450bht dont have windows. JohnnyKs photos have a balcony and teak fittings. Not flatpack cheapshit furnishings. Yes the room is small, but I would say its good value at 500bht.

Off course the easiest thing would be for magpie, jack or The Hun to post a pic or two of Skytop's offering in the same price range so that BMs could make up their own minds as to which offered better value. On the other hand, BM's can reach their own conclusions as to why they don't.

Hub,

It's pretty much the same size block from soi 6 up to the Royal Garden Shopping center. BTW the block I lived on in Southwest Philadelphia, Greenway Ave and surrounding area is about the same length as 2nd Rd to Beach Rd. I don't disagree with the traffic on 2nd Rd but if one is walking and most of us do walk, we all face the same traffic crossing the road.

LMAOAY. His handle fits you far better due to you going on and on and on and on with your constant attempts, warranted and unwarranted, to sell Sky-Top to others as a great place.

Sure you have, many many many times. 'Good value' = 'great place' in Philly-speak.

What I have said it's a good value and it is. :wanker

To you, shit value to some others. Maybe you could add that part next time. Truth in advertising and all......... :sosad
