Hi Guys

I am not too PC savvy, just nitnoi :banghead

Since I downloaded Internet Explorer 8 I keep having to refresh the page when I log on to ensure I have the most recent page, I have been getting the page when I last visited Pattaya Talk.

Is it something to do with this 'Compatiblity View' that has now cropped up?

TIA

IE 8 is a Beta Software.

It is not intended for those that are not PC savvy lol - on top of that, its Microsoft... which means that even when its ready for release, it will have bugs... and this one is still in beta, meaning its not yet ready for release. :)

I would revert back to 7 if I were you... or Firefox. Both are stable and work well with these forums.

Thanks for the heads up, I do have Opera as well.

I have unuinstalled 8 and gone back to 7, still having a refresh problem of sorts.

I'll have a look later.

TIA

Hmm... I use 7, FF and Chrome on it all the time without that particular issue. Very strange.

I would check your global internet options - reset them to defaults (look in your Control Panel).

I am back on track again  the problem was in the TOOLS, Delete Browsing History, I have had a play with that and all now seems OK, thanks for your help.

Glad to help mate...

If you have high speed internet you can prevent that from happening again by changing:

Tools:

Internet Options

Under "Browsing History" click "Settings"

Change the Radio Button list to "Every Time I Visit The Webpage"

Change "Disk Space to Use" to "50" or less.

This will stop your computer from caching files... Caching is good if you are on dialup, or have connectivity problems, but for high speed connections turning it off is actually faster.

Thanks again Frosty, even though I have gone back to IE7 some features of 8 are still lingering, guess that's MS for you.

I could totally uninstall IE, but as I am now running OK , I will leave well alone.

I think you should just use Firefox and forget IE. Make Firefox your default browser and you need never worry again.

Unless you visit one of the thousands of websites that only support IE and just dont run for shit under FireFox.

I do like FireFox better then IE... but IE is still a necessary evil - in some cases it is needed.

If you want something faster (but without many features at all, and does not work on all websites), try Google Chrome - I love it so far. Very very fast and simple.

I moved over to Firefox recently and found the same. However, there's an add-on called "IE Tab" that makes Firefox use the IE engine for a particular tab. That sorts the problem and I haven't needed IE since I found it.

Great thanks. I dont like FF but had to use it because IE was loading the old pages. FF takes ages to start and the bookmarks isnt very good.

Haven't found that problem with FF, but i suppose it depends on your internet speed.

Internet speed good. Found the same on my fathers FF as well. When you open it at first, it takes a while.

Interesting, I have never knowingly hit on a site like that (but I don't go to Gay Porn  ). In fact the opposite, sites that grind to a halt and lock up my laptop under IE7, but present no issues under Firefox. I also tried Opera for a while but found no advantages over FF. Edited by jacko

Not sure what it could be then, maybe different settings...but as was posted before, for some sites IE is a necessary evil.
