Information re weather in late July

Recommended Posts

I have the opportunity of taking a couple of weeks off work at the end of July. I'd love to spend it in Patts if I can get a reasonable flight deal, but I'm a bit concerned about the weather.

On my last trip, I arrived on 29 October and it was the worst time I've ever spent in Patts. As well as being unwell, the weather was bloody awful for a lot of the time: the rain was persistent, and I was trapped in the hotel.

I know there is a lot of rain in July, but I can cope with that if it's for just two or three hours a day. What I can't cope with is all-day rain.

Would you guys who have been living in Patts for some years please tell me what it is likely to be like for the second half of July, please.

Many thanks.

Weather in Thailand doesn't vary all that much. It's always hot and humid. In Pattaya in late July, it's likely to rain every second or third day in late afternoon for no more than an hour. It pretty well has to rain, it's so humid from the onshore winds. It's not usually very heavy. It varies of course, but that's about average.

I don't know how rain could inconvenience anyone very much, really. Do you have a lot of metal implants that rust, or what? It's 95 degrees and the rain is 92 degrees. What's the downside even if you're out in the rain?

I was there last year at that time and will be there July 31 through August 14th.

The days are usually overcast. There is so much moisture in the air. It all goes up during the day and around sunset often comes back down for an hour or so.

It is no big deal.

Thank you Joe and Midlife for the information.

No, I do not have metal implants, and I would be very concerned if I did and found that they rusted. You might have noticed that when it rains, the vast majority of people seek cover, put on weather-proof clothing, or use umbrellas. The reason for that is that they do not like getting wet. I happen to be part of that majority.

Metal implants are typically made of titanium and would not rust as well as the fact that they are not exposed to the outside environment.

You can buy umbrellas there cheaply enough. Bring a plastic poncho with you!

I saw you called it "trapped". Being "trapped" in a Pattaya establishment is not what I'd ever call a serious impediment to vacationing, really. If I felt "trapped" I'd get weather-proof clothing such as a newspaper, or use an umbrella, or just brave out the horror of falling water, and get un-trapped. So I was wondering if there was something I was missing.

In my opinion, you can get "trapped" in some very nasty, cold and horrible rain. In England, say, or New York or Melbourne. But not in Pattaya.

It is a horror to be trapped in a bar with pretty girls for an hour or having a massage.

If the OP wants dry and hot, try Baja.

I'm with you on this one MLC - if you see clouds forming get a BF takeaway from your nearest bar - or even better call for home delivery using wisely stored BG numbers - and use that "trapped time" in the hotel wisely....

I'll post a pic of my jailer from last trip when I get home from work..... no hang on - here she is http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/uploads/...-1221891140.jpg

P.S. I've just noticed Mr. Bazle is member number 45 - are we trying to teach our granny to suck eggs here???

P.P.S. Sorry I'm an expat but not in the right place IMHO

I have been going to pattaya for a number of years now, always the same time of year, first or second week of July through to the first week in August. The weather has been very similar year in year out. Very hot and humid. The rain when it arrives is heavy and sometimes lasts for an hour or two. There are also some wild storms (mostly at night) and they are a joy to watch from your balcony.

On one occassion the rain started just as I was leaving the Hotel it was persistant, heavy and looked like it would be on for some time. I got a change of clothes, sealed them up in a plastic bag and ventured out to my favourite bar. On arrival I changed into my dry clothes and one of the girls hung my wet clothes up to dry. Heh presto.

Don't sweat it (tho it's so humid you probably will) the weather at that time of year can be dealt with :eyecrazy

The irony is, you are hot and wet in Thailand even without rain. Just not as wet.

A wet afternoon in Pattaya is far superior to one in London me thinks.

I just spent 3 weeks in the UK and it rained 18 out of 21 days.

Here we got warmth and girls under 90 kilos who serve cold beers with a smile..... come on down.

They need the business and will be very hospitable.
