Bad experience with Pattaya Swimming Pool Company

Recommended Posts

Hello. I have had a bad experience with this company as they used inferior tiles when they built my pool. Many are breaking and the entire pool had to have all of the tiles replaced. In the United States we have The Better Business Bureau and one can write to them complaining about various companies. Does anyone know if there is such a thing in Thailand? I have written to the company, but no response yet. Thanks

It's a sad fact of life here mate.... they will try to use inferior (cheaper) stuff if you don't watch like a hawk.

If you had any guarrantee or warranty you might be able to take your problem to a solicitor.

But the solicitor is likely out to screw you too!

Maybe be prepared to find your horse's head in the pool too!

You pay peanuts, you get monkeys. You're not alone- many have got the swimming pool they 'want' (?) and ended up with an inferior product- for a cheap price. If you are thinking of a swimming pool, first of all think if you really want one. Electricity and maintenance are fairly expensive, and so ids the original price (if you get it done right). If you still do, pay the price and get the right product. There is no consumer protection here, farang.

My Infiniti 12m by 5m swimming pool, with a proper jacuzzi, cost not far south of a million baht when all things were considered. That means decent pump, pumphouse & filtration system, a western (Swiss) owned company to do the work, price paid to get it right, and get the right support and maintenance. I had no real problems, but came to the conclusion that frankly it still wasn't really worth it- whats wrong with a decently maintained communal pool?

It can be done. We had problems with a new house that we wanted to cancel the contract for due to breach of contract. I don't know all the particular and you will need to track down the right Gov Dept's etc. I told my wife it was her problem because the house was in her name and as a farang I was going to get nowhere. What she did was.

1) Lodged a report with Banglamung Police just to get it on record. You could say it was fraud due to faulty materials or something.

2) Tracked down what we would call the Dept of Consumer Affairs in Bangkok. Don't know what the Thais call it but they have one, and lodged a complaint.

3) Contacted the local TV stations and asked if they would like to do a story on shonky builders and they were keen.

4) Got her brother in law's brother who is a lawer involved. He did not do anything but she just took his card.

After all this she then insisted on an appointment with the owner of the Company. Basically to much bad publicity was going to come their way and they gave up, were very nice, which was a complete turnaround, and gave us back 600,000 baht. Everybody happy, we had the money and they avoided a lot of headaches and the bad publicity.Plus because of all the different people involved, Police, Dept of Consumer Affairs, TV Station and lawyer it made it very difficult for them to try to settle with her Thais style involving thugs in the middle of the night.

But you will have to get your Thai partner, assuming you have one, to do it all because I doubt as a farang that you will get anywhere.

Hope all this helps.

So this house is under your name????

If its under the wife/gf name then maybe you have some rights,if not you should have had at least a 12 month warrintee.

Less than 30k sounds like a decent price to me.

Stumbled upon this thread as I was looking for house build ideas and recommendations here in Pattaya. I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Such a shame that some companies would risk their reputation for using substandard products, which also puts people at risk. I hope that it has been sorted already. If you are in need of a reliable company for swimming pool supplies and equipment, I'd recommend PoolMaster. You can check out their products at their thailandpoolshop website. They're very accommodating and I can personally vouch for the quality of their supplies. Cheers.
