Flying through Dubai Airport in November , If you have used the airport since the new terminal 3 opened please let us know what you think about it !

Duty free, eats, drinks, transit area etc would be handy , and smoking areas info ?

The new airport T3 is fine if you are there later at night say between 2300 and 0400 in the morning. After this time many filghts arrive at once and it becomes quite hectic. The duty free is huge and looks great but certainly not many bargains to be had. Many of the branded name goods are actually more expensive than you could get in Europe or online.

Several places to eat including sandwhich bars, burger king, coffee shop/bar and an upstairs restuarant where you can smoke. These are mostly locate at the T1 end of T3 and are grouped together. As far as other smoking areas I dont think you can unless you go to T1.

The airport has plent seats and several chill out areas and gardens again if you get there at the right time.

If you are lucky enough to get into the business lounge it usually has plenty of seating with the food being better than that in the old T1 lounge. There is also a smoking area in the business lounge as well as showers and free internet.

As the terminal is quite large it does involve a fair bit of walking so ensure you leave plenty of time to get to your gate as they seem to be a bit more strict on being there on time.

If you have plenty of time take a walk to the old T1 and see just how quiet it is now.

Hahaha..I had to laugh at this..not because of the advice but because of my own experience..I was travelling BKK to East Africa...got the call in the Business Class lounge for boarding....at the gate at the farthest end of the new terminal..well I strolled along the length of the building..saw the sign for my flight but it wasn't opened so joined the queue with the riffraff...and we all waited...and waited...everything was still up for that gate..even the anouncements...Untill suddenly we were all told that we had to catch a bus to the airplane..........I am laughing hysterically as I type this..

FROM THE END OF THE PIER AT THE OLD TERMINAL!!!!

It MUST have been 1 to 2 Km from one end to t'other...or at least seemed like it with a belly full of wine!!

It's free in the business lounge, not sure about Fosters though :P

Obviously the normal punters subsidise the lounge goers. I'm planning on using the lounge between my A380 flights this week so think I will get value for my money. :D

Access is free for Mastercard (and a few other CC/DC) holders irrespective of their class of travel (or on payment for anyone else). I've no idea about the rules regarding free access for pax in transit in excess of 5 hours. I would assume that it would be issued with your boarding card in much the same way as a biz class lounge pass is.

Hey Tom , we was told about the lounge access by a nice young man at the Emirates office ion London when we spoke to him on the phone , we had been seeking info about the airport hotel and he told us that as our transit layover was over 5 hours we were entitled to the lounge pass FOC !

The airport hotel would have worked out at about £125 for 6 hours

Apparently you have to go to the Emirates transit desk on arrival and show your onward ticket stub , sounds good :sosad

Have just spoken with Skywards service centre in Manchester, and he stated that you are not entitled to Free lounge access just because you have booked a flight that means you have to wait 5, 6, 7 or any amount of hours. The fact that your layover is 7 hours one way and 9 hours the other is entirely your problem (you booked it!). If on the other hand their is a problem with flights and you have to wait longer than 8 hours you are provided with hotel free.

I will have the same problem next March, but as he says, I chose the flights! :D :gulp

I have been searching long and hard for info and found this

So i am ok in T3 then :D

If you go to the far end of T3, go upstairs to the bar, think it's called The Hub. It costs $11 a pint but you can smoke in there and they also have toilets for customer use only...with no queues.

Yep, unlimited food (hot and cold) and drinks.

Unfortunately, non-alcoholic!

Thats good enough ! never drink alcohol when flying , before , during and 24 hrs after , keeps the jetlag at bay and the dehydration ! :allright

One good tip if you have a long wait between flights at one of the Arab airports, and you are not eligible to use the lounge, is to head to one of the prayer rooms.

They are in actual fact 'quiet' rooms and no praying actually takes place there, unless it is silently. They are just darkened rooms with about a dozen reclining chairs. If you can bag one of them then you can get a bit of shut eye for a couple of hours.
