I would, sure as shit.

I am a private pilot, and I am ALWAYS, and by always I mean 100% and with absolutely no exceptions, a great deal more comfortable landing at my home airport. Even in heavy cross winds and gusting, which were fairly frequent where I learned to fly.

Get a pilot experienced with a particular airport and the landing will always go smoother, IMHO.

How many International hours did you log flying 747's frosty :D

I go with where I have highest FF status. In this case it is NW (now Delta). I just hope the pilots have figured out the work schedule computer by March. Be a bit awkward to fly past Bangkok by a few hundred miles. But then again, my last two flights the flight attendants announced descent a good 200 miles BEFORE we got to the airport :-)

The problem occurs when the Thai pilot is making his first landing at Heathrow. unsure

You got that straight!! I still remember the THAI pilot who was making his first flight, and he THOUGHT it was *over* the Himalayas, but he and and his 112 dependents were actually trying to go through them, and the mountain was harder than the cheap tin Airbus. (I always loved that phrase "controlled flight into terrain".)

But what the hey, if you get FROM London TO Pattaya, what else matters, really? I wouldn't mind if my last thought was, "Oh, xhit, I didn't make it back to London!" If that's the worst that happens to me, it will have been one hell of a great ride -- pun also intended.

They've just recommenced flights from Had Yai to Singapore so no need for me to go through BKK any more. Can't say that I'm too disappointed. :banghead

You can choose the airline, but can you choose the pilot?

Of course not.

But most, if not all, Thai Airlines pilots are based in BKK.. unlike most other carriers that have many hubs around the world. I was just pointing out that to any pilot your "home" airport is always the most comfortable.

None. But a pilot is a pilot. I have over 1000 hours... not much compared to many international carrier pilots to be sure, but enough to know that some things do not change. I am 100% sure that a pilots home base will always be more comfortable in any situation / weather. That doesnt change with the size of the airplane much. If anything, the stress would be higher for him than for me - after all I am coming in at a mere 50 knots, and hes pushing 180 on landing. (in other words I would get a scraped knee if something went wrong lol, he would go boom). Well, that... and I can glide down if I loose my engines lol.

One of the things I really miss about the US is flying. I would usually go several times per month... been about 2 years now. Sucks. Going to have to bring my log book back with me and get my license transferred to Thailand so I can rent a cessna here. :D

I understand what you are saying,

at my home field, no choice, crosswind mandatory.

But the gap between an experienced Privte Pilot,

and an experienced Commercial Pilot IMO,

is considerable.
