Visa Extension

Recommended Posts

I plan to get the 6 day Tourist visa in August 2010. Then seek the 30 day extension. Questions is, Do I have to travel to BKK or is there somewhere in Pattaya or nearby that this can be done. Thanks.

Six day visa? I didn't know there was such a thing. Citizens of many countries get a 30 day visa waiver on arrival at the airport. Or, you can get a regular tourist visa which allows for 60 days on arrival and which can be extended for 30 days. I think they can do that at the Jomtien immigration for 1900 baht.

As js007 replied, there is an immigration office in Jomtiem (Chom Tein...:D), it is a large efficient place and can handle anything you need, there are offices nearby raking it in for copies and photos.

Where do you get them 6 day visas? I am sure they would be a big hit with the cheap charlie brigade.

Typo, I meant 60 day, but I think you knew that.

But thanks, so I can do this a t Jomtien and can it be done on the last day of my 60 DAY VISA?

No. If you go on the last day of your 60 day visa, they will charge you for a 1 day over stay, and you might even get a nice little lecture. I would advise doing it no later than 2 days before the Visa expires.

I get 60 days added to mine, because I show my marriage certificate and daughters birth certificate. :D

Thank you, I wouldn't have known that. Bit of a bugger when you are expected to purchase a return ticket and then have to cancel and re-book. Unless having a 60 day visa means I can book a one way.

How many extensions can you get, given you get 60 days extension and I would say you spend a fair amount of time there with your wife and daughter. I thought one was all that was permitted.

I do spend a good amount of time there, but never more than 30-45 days at a time now that I am working in China. Most of the time now, I don't even bother with the 60 day visa, I just use the 30 day on arrival.

Why not just get a non immigrant visa or if you have a child you are responsible for, then you can get an annual extension to a non immigrant visa based on family support. Since October 2008 you do not have to be over 50 years old but do need Bt400,000 (or sometimes Bt500,000 as in Pattaya's case) in an account. Then get a multiple re-entry permit.

I do not spend anough time all at one time there with the family now. I pop in for a week or two every other month, sometimes pop in for a couple days for business meetings. When we open our manufacturing facility in Thailand, I will have a work permit and 1 year business visa through the company.

Then I seriously suggest getting a non immigrant "B" visa as there are running issues with WPs and extensions based on WPs and a single entry B may find you hauling your ass back to Penang or somewhere on a regular basis until things get sorted out. This is not just small companies but for well established outfits with all the lawyers etc. in place. If you get a single entry on the back of company documents and then you only get a 1 month extension, you'll have to take another trip, whereas with a multi entry, you'd just hit the border and come back. Much better to have your own multi entry B than extensions based on a WP, especially at start up. Just a safety net really. If some of your paperwork is not up to scratch, you come back with a 30 day stamp or a tourist visa and then your WP is screwed until you go get a non imm. It is screwed up for sure.

I am well aware of the issues with Non Imm B visas. I have had numerous work permits over my 10 years in Thailand. Thanks for posting the info here though.

No worries. I was amazed at how bad it got earlier this year. Some folks on WPs for a decade were being treated as though they were one day wonders and yet they'd been all legitimate for donkeys.

The "Yellow Shirts" would rather that all farangs working in Thailand fucked off home. That's a fact. Bring back Thaksin, and put that fookin baht back to 40-45 and let's all make some money!!!!!!

There is a minimum balance required in a JOINT Account owned with the Thai wife for that to work.

It's half the amount required for a retirement visa, but still not something to sneeze at.

w/o that minimum balance in a joint account, it would be difficult if not impossible to get the Non-Imm based on a marriage.

An alternative or supplement is showing an income, but I think that income has to be coming directly into an LOS bank account.

Rubbish. You can get a "B" visa with a letter from a company to your Thai consulate. Nothing to do with money in bank accounts. Non Imm "O" visas available just for visiting friends or family or anything really.

you can get your initial visa this way, true.

but if you want to continue getting those Non-Imm visas you've got to show them how you're going to support your family (in case of a marriage visa)

or how you will support yourself, if it's a retirement visa

We are not talking about one 90-day Non-Imm visa, we're talking about having one-year mutiple entry.

If you try that "letter from a company" thing more than once you're going to get denied if you didn't follow thru with a work permit application.

More complete rubbish from the guy that is so full of shit his eyes are brown. The bullshit that he posts is just laughable. Bradly, why not just wanker off. Thailand forgot about you a couple hours after your plane took off. Why not forget about Thailand?

this is a little confusing, its a 90 day non immigration 12 month multiple entry! simple huh just like Thailand :beer

usually when you get a Non-Imm visa related to a company, the initial (first) visa is for 90 days, which can then be extended after you've applied for a work permit

in the case of a marriage visa it's for a year, but only if the cash is in a joint account with the wife or incoming funds (to LOS) are shown to be sufficient to support your spouse (& kids).
