I decided to change my trip..

I'm coming in on Eva and thinking I'll buy a ticket to Phuket to avoid Sonkran.

Can I clear customs in Phuket ?

Does Thai Air & AirAsia fly out of Swampy ?

Then I'll have to figure out the bagagge change to Phuket..

Do any of the airlines still fly in to the airport by Ptts ?

I noticed recently after arriving in BKK around 1930 that after clearing emigration (40 min) & before collecting baggage there was signs for anyone going on to other places including Phuket so I assume your baggage would be automatically diverted to your final destination. Customs clearance would also be there.

I know there is an evening flight to Phuket about 2100 from BKK which fitted in nicely with my arrival time. (Qatar QR610).

I am sure other more travelled BMs can help you more.

have a good trip.

cheers rogero :D

Like most places, you'll clear customs in the first place you land in Thailand.

Yes, THAI flies from the new airport. Bangkok Airways flies to U Tapao (Pattaya).

Joe answered...... you will have to clear customs at Swampy, so will have collected your bag.

Air Asia do fly out of swampy, I would just drag my bag to the departures (domestic) and check in, not too far.

(Air Asia do have check-in at International too, but I do not think you can use them).

Bangkok Airways (Phuket and Samui) and Charters from Russia for U-Tapao..

I know there are some facilities to automatically transfer baggage for Phuket, as I have seen it offered. But when changing carriers, especially to a budget one that likes to make extra charges based on luggage, better to be sure and collect your own bag.

You don't like getting hit by a firehose equivalent in the face?

If you arrive on Eva you'll have to go through immigration at Swampy before checking in for your connecting flight. There is no way you can transfer to another airline and have your baggage arrive at your final destination from your original check in if using two airlines.

That is not the case at all. If you are ticketed through to your final destination in Thailand (there are 4 or 5 airports that it applies to, Phuket being one of them - Samui, Chiang Mai, Had Yai are three of the others), your bags will be tagged and transferred as part of the airlines' interline agreements. Boarding passes for the connecting flight can be issued when you check-in for your initial flight or at the domestic connections desk at BKK, at which point you also complete immigration formalities. Just follow the signs ......

None of the above applies if your connecting flight is on a separate ticket, no interline agreement exists or your onward flight is to an airport other than one of the designated airports. The exact same system works in reverse returning to the UK - you clear immigration at Heathrow but your bags are tagged through to, for example, Manchester or Edinburgh.

Agreed that works fine if the Airlines have an agreement or a both members of Star Alliance or One World and codeshare etc.

There is no way in hell I would trust my bags to be transferred from EVA to Air Asia at Swampy.

Skate you havent said what time your flight gets into Thailand.

Very important that you allow enough time to clear customs, get your bags then check-in at Domestic for your flight to Pookey.

I'd allow 2 1/2 to 3 hours. So many things can go wrong.

Your flight is late into Thailand.

Long line-ups at immigration.

Bag is lost/slow coming off carousel.

Long line-ups at domestic check-in.

Between Thai and Air Asia, flights from Swampy to Pookey are almost hourly.

Air Asia are fine but my strong recommendation is to upsize your baggage limit when you book online.

Even being a kilo over will create a nightmare you dont want. Much easier just to pay 200bt extra when you book. (unless you are a very light traveller).

Bkk air from Pookey to Utapao arent cheap so look for specials online.

Thanks guys. Like I say, its an after thought going to Phuket. Just trying to avoid Songkran.

I get in at 11:30 and looked at flights leaving at 12:40 and 2:40. Guess I better plan on the

2:40 and rush to customs with my best smile.

On the same thought about Phuket, any thoughts about hotel would be helpful.

I haven't been there in 10 years and wondering which hotel.

Any experance with the C & N ?

You can't transfer onto Air Asia from any airline (even AirAsiaX) at BKK, or any other airport. Same, same Nok and One-to-Go.
