The top seeds are Kentucky, Syracuse, Duke, and the team I hate the most, Kansas. :D Lotta big name schools didn't make it this year (North Carolina, UCLA, Arizona, UMass). I really miss spending the day in a casino sports book and watching hoops all day. Anybody have an underdog they like? Here's a link to the bracket:

I don't know what the Vegas line is Vic, but Gonzaga and Cal at #8 seeds have to be some sweet seed money in the early rounds.

I would not be surprised to see either make it to the 16.

I watched Cal beat UCLA in the PAC 10 tourney this weekend. Cal has a stud of a shooting guard. They looked pretty good to be an 8 seed.

An exciting first day of basketball.

-#3 seed Georgetown, a sexy pick to make the Final Four, goes down to 14th seeded Ohio.

-It took BYU 2 overtimes to beat Florida

-The 15th seeded Robert Morris Colonels (who? ) took #2 seeded Villanova to OT before losing 73-70 on a last-second missed shot. The crowd gave the Colonels a standing ovation as they left the court.

-Number 13th seeded Murray State beat 4th seeded Vanderbilt 66-65 with a buzzer-beater from 15 feet out.

-Northern Iowa won it's first NCCA tourney game in 20 years by beating UNLV 69-66.

-Old Dominion and Notre Dame played to the wire, with the Monarchs holding on for a 51-50 upset win.

-Bubble team Wake Forrest held on in OT to beat Texas by one point, 81-80.

Another full slate of games on Friday. In a battle of big cats, my Mizzouri Tigers are taking on the Tigers of Clemson. Let's go Mizzou! :D

Looks like Cornell and Mizzou were the only real upsets on Friday. I'm trying to get the highlights from the Mizzou game to load, but so far no luck. :banghead They'll have their hands full with West Virginia.

Come on Northern Iowa! Take down the Hawks!

Hahahahahaha! The Jayhawks go down! Love it, love it, love it! Ninth-seeded Northern Iowa sends the number one team in the nation to the trash pile. Hahahahahahaha! :P :party :party :party :party

Here are the Sweet Sixteen match ups:

Midwest

(9)Northern Iowa vs (5)Michigan State

(6)Tennessee vs (2)Ohio St

West

(1)Syracuse vs (5)Butler

(6)Xavier vs (2) Kansas State

East

(1)Kentucky vs (12) Cornell

(11) Washington vs (2) West Virginia

South

(1)Duke vs (4)Purdue

(3)Baylor vs (10) St Mary's

Lots of upsets, and lots of high seeds advancing.

-Notice every #1 seed advanced to the Sweet Sixteen . . . except one :D :D

-Cinderella Northern Iowa has a chance against Michigan St, who may be without their star player.

-Gotta love Cornell and Washington advancing in the East, along with St Mary's in the South. Too bad they're playing against such tough competition.

I'm rooting for the underdogs, but I hope Kansas State makes it to the Final Four, since I have many friends who went to school there.

Vic, you must stop talking to yourself. People will think you are strange. :clueless

My last post was almost 2 weeks ago. I'd given this thread up for lost. The college basketball fans on this board have been strangely quiet during the tournament. Guess I should have removed part of my brain and posted this topic in the Members Bar. :nod

But , since you revived the thread . . .

Underdog Butler will be playing for the national championship in their home city vs the college basketball Goliath that is Duke University. Should be a great game. Go Butler! 2guns

I'd bet a tiny amount it won't be. After watching Duke simply dismember the boys from the mountains, I can't see it being another buzzer-beater overtime game, or too close at all. Vegas online advisory Sunday morning US time has Duke by seven. Over-under has been set at 129.5 which doesn't seem a lot??

Of course that (as the philosopher Christopher Berman stated) is why they play the game.

Who would have thought this pairing in the finals. Duke clearly has the best athletes, but Butler truly plays as a team.

I'm hoping for a Butler win, but I wouldn't bet a whole lot of money on the game.

No doubt Duke is playing well. West Virginia was a very good team, probably could have been a #1 seed, and Duke dispatched them with ease. Coach K has his team peeking at the right time - that's why they're in the championship game.

That said, it's obvious Butler should have been a higher seed than a #5. They've already beaten a #1 seed (Syracuse), a #2 seed (K-State), and the tourney zen master Tom Izzo (Mich St), so it's not like they've gotten to the big game by playing patsies. I think the home city advantage will be huge for them - Butler University is only 5 miles from downtown Indy.

I'm going out on what I consider to be a fairly sturdy limb and predicting a Butler victory. :beer

Geez, that's one to remember. What a fabulous, energetic and close game right down to the final four seconds. Absolutely riveting and well done to both teams.
