Firefox 3.6 users and Forum Rich Text Editor

Recommended Posts

This is a post from the Invision (forum software) site regarding Firefox 3.6 and this version of the forum software:

Users of Firefox 3.6 have experienced problems using the rich text

editor in Invision Power Board 2.3.6. This is not a security issue but

simply a feature usability problem.

IMPORTANT: This issue does NOT impact the IP.Board 3 series and those on the IP.Board 3 versions can safely ignore this message.

Administrators of a 2.3.6 installation can choose one of the following options to resolve the issue:

[*]Instruct members to simply switch to the basic text editor in 2.3.6

[*]Upgrade to latest version of IP.Board 3

[*]Download the patch file attached to this announcement, unzip, and upload to: /jscripts

I have downloaded and applied the patch, but it doesn't seem to work.

So, if you have Firefox 3.6, switch your editor to the basic text editor rather than the rich text editor.

Click the button indicated by the red arrow in the upper right of your editor screen as shown below:

Really? That's good news indeed.

jacko mentioned he had a problem with the editor, so I thought it might be this issue.

Another mess you got me out of MM lol.

Works like a dream now

So, I guess it's okay for me to upgrade to Firefox 3.6 and get rid of those annoying upgrade prompts!

Sorry for using you guys as guinea pigs :banghead

I've done that so I can now type but I still don't have spell check.

Anyone know if we have spell check on the forum? aussiechic can't find it, nor can I.

Obviously, I don't use it.

Firefox has spell check installed. If it's not working.

1# At the top of the Firefox window On the menu bar, click on the Tools Firefox Edit menu, and select Options...Preferences....

2# Select the Advanced panel.

3# Click the General tab.

4# Select Check my spelling as I type.

5# Click OK Close the preferences window.

I don't know, but I get the feeling aussiechic is looking for a spell check in the forum post editor. I don't know if there is one, but she says it was there before.

I use the Firefox spell checker, so thanks for giving instructions on how to set that up.

A quick way to enable it is to left click in a text input field and check "CHECK SPELLING" in the context menu.

Well... if you have thrown the switch on your side (enabled spell checking in the IPB software) then the problem would be on the member's side, e.g., their browser or video drivers, etc.

Thanks Guys for your assistances MM's last post helped me figure out that for some reason I didn't have a dictionary loaded must have been disable or deleted some how. The only problem now is I loaded the Australia English dictionary so you have to put up with me speaking like a Sheila.

I have just switched back to the Rich Text Editor and it does indeed work now.

Doesn't seem any different though!

Later Edit.....

I am going back to the standard editor. I can't block-select and delete with this Rich one!
