Flat Screen TV's

Recommended Posts

I would opt for a 42" LCD or LED and stay away from the plasma. I think that plasma flat screens are going the way of the rear projection sets of a few years back, the LCD and LED have a better picture, last longer, and run a lot cooler. I prefer the Samsungs but any of the new ones are great and I know that you will enjoy it.

I have a Hitachi 42" plasma and the picture is better than a friends of mines 46" LCD. I bought mine in 2005 for 3000.00 usd. It does get hot and is taxing on the electric bill. But the new stuff out now, LCD have caught up to the picture quality of the plasma and both have dropped so much in price. The first HD plasma I saw in person, the owner paid 6000.00 USD :D

Only $6000? I know a guy who just had to have a new flat panel when they first came out. This was back in about 1999 when the internet stocks were going crazy and everyone was making money like crazy. Anyway, he paid $18,000 for a 42" Panasonic flat screen, and it wasn't even HD.

My Samsung went pop after 15mths. Wouldn't buy one again, chances are they have solved their problems in the newer models but once bitten and all that!

I'd spend the extra and buy the new series Bravia from Sony, LED is the way forward but be aware there will soon be a drop in TV prices as 3D TV's are going to be hitting the market this year.

I'm looking at a current ad from our local newspaper and you can buy a 42" Panasonic plasma for $500USD.

I think they're already on the market. At least Best Buy in the USA has one advertised. Some sort of an LED/3D set that they want in excess of $3.5K for. But if you just stick with the LED models, the sets are about $1K cheaper.

Since I've never seen a 3D TV in action, I'm not sure what to think about them. I realize the potential is there, but do they perform? And if you have to wear some sort of glasses to watch, then why not build the 3D TV right into the glasses and forget about the set?

Sounds like a good idea if you want to see the TV only, I would think that it would be difficult to even pick up a mug of tea while wearing those. Also, it would be a solo experience. OMG, wouldn't it be perfect for porn. :D

I think that you should all go right out and buy 3d TVs. Also, please write lots of letters asking for more broadcast 3d programming. Tell your friends to do the same. Then, when the sets get cheaper, and there is enough broadcast, I'll buy one.

I have just got a Panasonic LCD - Top of the range model. It didn't cost me a penny - the company I work for paid for it. :)

Picture quality in HD is stunning. I am in the process of adding it on to my home network for media streaming (it has Ethernet) and it can also play DIVX movies stored on SD cards. Got an HD satellite box feeding it, but it also has an internal satellite input which I have connected to another dish to pick up some Thai TV for the other half. It came with a free 5 year guarantee - for peace of mind, not that I have ever had a problem with any Panasonic stuff I have bought.

Did have a look at a Samsung LCDs and LEDs but went for the Panasonic instead.

The first time I looked at my HD TV in full HD (1080p) via a Blu Ray movie disc, it was sort of distracting. The picture was so good I almost forgot to watch the movie.
