Hows the battery life ? Windows phones usually suck them dry.

 

Wait until you start hearing that familiar Beep when you try to do something Windows doesn't like.

 

Android is by far the much better option.

 

 

Actually the battery life is pretty impressive. After three days of heavy playing, it still had 29 percent life left. I don't know about the beep because I have never heard it. I do know now that a touch screen smart phone will never be my everyday phone. Great for checking email when traveling but my cheap long battery life phone will always be in my pocket. The only advantage I can see for a touch screen is that the screen is much bigger and it is much easier to reply to emails.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S and I think is simply great compared to my brothers Icon 4.

The I con 4 does not have a radio and you have to pay to download many items.

Flash will not be available on the apple phone. ... waiting for the froyo update on my samsung.

You can put a 32 GB sd card in the galaxy. ... can you put extra memory in a I phone?.

The screen resolution is to die for on the galaxy compared to a htc desire.

You can watch HD porn movies on the galaxy in the toilet if you want to chuck wa.

Right now i dont think there is a better alround phone than the Samsung Galaxy S.

 

 

I downloaded Froyo for mine even though it's not released here yet. No major imporvements I can see of.

 

I have Amaze.com GPS now simply brilliant covers the whole of Thailand with Voice.

I have an iPhone 4 and an HTC HD2 that I'm now running Android 2.2 on. As far as the best phone, the iPhone 4 is easily the smoothest, best working of the two. Still I use my HD2 most of the time because I prefer the larger screen and I also like the Android OS better than the iPhone OS. Smartphones these days are so much improved over the past couple of years and they all seem to work great, especially the superphones or the best of the group. Look at several and see what you like best, that would be my suggestion.

I'm now in the US and decided that the phone just wasn't going to cut it. It does everything but the 3 inch screen is just too small. I went out today and bought an HP Mini net book. The net book for $300 is a much better buy than an over priced phone.

Good one joekicker :). I would imagine that he has a hard time getting it in his pocket also. Smartphones were never intended to replace laptops, they are just a convenient way to have your phone, Net access, camera, notes, and any documents that you need all together in one small package that you can take with you. For surfing the web, etc. a Netbook is always better but if you are out to lunch with some friends and one wants to know how many home runs Hank Aaron hit is is good to have a way to find out with you 24/7. For the use they were intended smartphones are hard to beat.

Nothing wrong with having both. I had thought that I could get by with just the phone and left my rather heavy laptop at home.

 

As for using my phone in the US, I bought a pay as you go ATT SIM card. A bit expensive. 100 minutes and the registration for about $67 dollars. The time works out to $.25 a minute. Internet data is also $.25 a minute. The greedy bastards charge you for incoming as well as outgoing calls.

 

WiFi is all over the place and I am able to connect at my mother's house using someone's connection. The phone also has a pretty good WiFi connection. The net book is only a little better.

 

The Opera Mini Browser is MUCH faster than IE on the phone. The only problem is that the auto rotate won't work with Opera.

IPHONE4 - FIVE WEEK UPDATE:

After playing with this "gadget" for a few weeks I thought I would add my thoughts.

 

USA, ATT service in my area has gone to shit. This is not the fault of the Iphone, but if you are in the USA and buying the phone in contract don't count on ATT improving. I have been a customer for about 6 years and it's just getting worse.

 

What's new on aside from cosmetics? Not much. Face time is cool if you have people you talk with who are also Iphone4 owners. Otherwise facetime is worthless.

Many things are improved. The GPS and overall way apps work seems much faster and smoother.

Without a bumber/case or hands free device, the phone is all but useless for someone who has been holding a telephone the same way since...well....since I started using a telephone.

The new "micro sim" card means that I cannot change phones at will anymore. That is a major drawback for anyone that owns more than one cell phone. There are after market adapters for sale, but, I have not tried one yet.

 

For me, the phone does everything the 3gs did, but faster and smoother. Except, err, for talking on the telephone. ATT is making that damn near impossible for me.

 

If I had to do it all over again I would have not signed the contract and waited a few more months and see what my options where then.

 

The good news is that I paid US$300 for the thing and I can sell it on Ebay for 6-700 and then just go back to my "old" Ipone or use the profit to get out of my ATT contract... I'm debating that now.

It's interesting to hear what other owners say Sailfast. I have an iPhone 4 also and I guess that my only complaint, other than the obvious which is Apples' restrictive policies and software, is that it is too perfect. IMO it is way ahead of the 3GS, especially in the resolution and camera department. Also you don't have to jailbreak it to be able to turn your data on and off, handy here in Thailand. Here in Pattaya we usually have a good signal and I can't make my signal bars go down no matter how I hold it .

 

There is another solution to the ATT problem that you didn't mention. You can always jailbreak/unlock you phone and stick a T-Mobile card in there. As for the adapters, most of them work very well, just don't get one that has plastic all over the back of the microsim, these don't work very well. You can also use what is left of your original sim card if you use a microsim cutter to cut it. That would be my advice, jailbreak your phone and you can use the carrier that you like.

 

With all of that being said I still use my HD2 with Android installed on it. Hacking phones is a hobby of mine and the iPhone 4 is just too good, not enough things to change for me. Also I prefer the 4.3 inch screen on the HD2 although in resolution the iPhone 4 has it beat. Still I don't think that you can go wrong with any of the super smartphones available these days.

Certainly no complaints on my battery life. Mind you I did have an Omnia before and the battery on that was non existent. Always had to carry one or 2 spares with me.

Aren't you bound to Sprint with that phone though ?

 

That would mean you can't just pop in a SIM if visiting LOS or another country.

 

 

my old Omnia had a shocking battery life barely got 6 hours use always had to carry a spare with me.

The Omnia II is quite different. I charged it earlier this week on Monday & it's still got 3 out of 5 bars on the power indicator.

I seriously considered this model & wanted the Android that comes with it, but the no flash bit put me right off it.

You have some valid points about a few things I "forgot". The camera is ahead of the 3gs. My anger at ATT probably clouded my opinion of the phone in some respects. Thanks for that info on sim adapters.

My 3GS that I had before I bought the 4 was a factory original that I jailbroke and unlocked but my iPhone 4 was a factory unlocked. I haven't jailbroke the 4 yet because the main reason I did it with the 3GS was so I could unlock it and turn on and off my data connection, something that the 4 already has. If your iPhone has 4.0 or 4.0.1 software on it they are relative easy to jailbreak and unlock. If you have upgraded to 4.0.2 or 4.1 you will have to wait. It's best not to upgrade your iPhone because all they usually do is close a jailbreak/unlock hole in the software that the hacking community was exploiting.

 

I bought my IP4 the first week that they were available here in Pattaya and I paid a hefty premium for it at that time. It's fairly easy to unlock and jailbreak your phone if it is a 4.0 or 4.0.1, go to this site for more info, Big Boss Repositories .

I can take pics in the bars okay without a flash. I took some Video of the fireworks on the Beach just after I bought it and it was crystal clear.

 

It is true HD video recording as they say. Pics are crystal clear even though the camera is 5MP the same as the Omnia it takes much better pics.

 

I have downloaded Flashplayer too and can now view almost any Webpage flawlessly, just need 3G here to take full advantage.

Having said that.,..so far the Galaxy does seem to need a steady hand for photos in lower light situations....Im so spoilt by the antishake features in modern cameras.....
