Thierry Henry Comes to the Big Apple

Recommended Posts

Does Henry want to help turn the USA into a soccer-loving nation? Nah, he just wants to live in midtown Manhattan. :clueless The Red Bulls? :clueless Hope he enjoys playing a novelty sport, because NFL training camps are about to start, and the Yankees and Mets are both in the baseball play-off hunt. The Red Bulls might get mentioned in the NY papers somewhere after women's volleyball and the Syracuse lacrosse team. :thumbup

I know who Beckham is. Not sure if he's still playing for the LA team or not. Moore? Best? I have no idea who you're talking about, and that's my point - these big name soccer boys come over, collect their money, then go back to soccer-loving land, and most US sports fans don't know or care about them because we don't give a shit about soccer.

The people who think professional soccer will ever be popular in the US as a spectator sport, they're the ones who will never learn. Go peddle that boring, crappy, polka-dotted-ball sport somewhere else.

Your American football will never be popular outside of your own country forever and a day. Our Soccer is loved by most people in the rest of the world. It is a de-facto religion. Who cares, if people like you think it is of no importance in the USA. By the way, I noticed a hell of a lot of Americans taking great interest in the Soccer World Cup in South Africa. :thumbup I bet you are just a fat armchair athlete, who has never taken part in any sport.

Nobody needs American football to be popular outside the U.S.

America is big enough to support the N.F.L. on it's own.

Yes, soccer is loved by a lot of people in a lot of small countries, but it will never crack the American market, no matter which soccer star they bring to the U.S. to play that boring game.

The NY interviewers say of the World Cup, "Even we got caught up in it." Of course they have no idea who won the World Cup. :clueless Proof positive that most Americans don't care about soccer, with good reason. :clueless

I watched about 30 minutes of that game and one of the announcers continued to call Spurs,"The" Spurs, like The Yankes,The Dodgers, ect.Spurs are referred to as "Spurs",period. The other commentator referred to them as Spurs. And this was one of the match commentators here in the US.Soccer has a long way to go in my country. You'd think that prior to the match, during the match,at halftime, whenever, someone would have corrected him.

Soccer is a global game, played and watched by millions. It doesn't need to crack the American market.

American football will never be a global game...... And if soccer is boring then watching American Football is worse than watching paint dry!!!

Obviously the marketing experts disagree with you.

They keep bringing these over-paid players to the U.S. to drum up support for the boring game.

New Yorkers especially will not waste their time watching a bunch of fruits kicking, and running, and bouncing balls off their faces.

There is so much better entertainment to choose from.

The European stars that end their days in playing in the USA are doing it for one thing only........ the money!!!

And if the USA isn't interested in soccer, then why did the Glaziers take-over Man Utd?

I suppose you Americans went crazy over this world class event:-

Yes you are right. This sounds a lot more entertaining than soccer.

In America a soccer has-been is someone who still plays it past the age of 10 years.

We are flag-waving American patriots. We still rule the world, despite sending it almost bankrupt. We make and brake countries, especially when it comes to stealing their resources. We have the best steroid-using athletes in the world. Why does the rest of the world ignore our heroic boys clad in kevlar and why does the rest of the world adore that silly game called soccer instead? Soccer is a threat to our national security. Let's invade some more of those countries, steal more of their resources or just nuke them. :lovee

It's just a game silly boy.

For hundreds of millions of people it's a lot more than a game. If you call me a silly boy again, I will get my bamboo cane and give you a few good smacks across the arse. I hope you are not one of those guys , who would actually enjoy that. :thumbup

At least most of us know the difference between "brake" and "break". :thumbup

Nah, the Tour de France has some pretty good roidheads too.

My point is that "The-polka-dot-ball-sport" is not catching on in the US, as evidence by the stupid US info-tainment anchors telling Hank Theirry that they got caught up in the World Cup excitement, yet they didn't even know who won. :thumbup The WC was the "flavor-of-the-month", at least until the US team lost. "REAL" US sports fans didn't follow it and don't care about it. They were too busy watching the NBA Finals and baseball - sports where games never end in a tie. :grin-jump

Mate, I'm so pleased a semi-literate closet soccer lover is correcting my spelling mistakes. As for the Tour de France, wasn't Landis stripped of his win, when he was found out to have used drugs. He has now dobbed in his best ex-friend and ex-room mate, Lance Armstrong, a 7 times Tour de France winner, for taking the same drugs. It is only a matter of time before Armstrong will be stripped of his 7 Tour de France wins. Go easy on the drink, down there in boring Rayong. :thumbup

All I know about the Tour de France is Lance Armstrong and steroids. I wouldn't be suprised if he was on roids, seems like all of them are. Put "bike riding" on the long list of sports I care nothing about.

As for Lance - roided or not, Dude kicked cancer's ass. He gets my respect for that. :bow Plus he made a bunch of Frenchies look silly for several years, which is a good thing. :clap1

Back to the "polka-dot-ball-sport", closeted fan? No way, but I have learned a lot about it since moving to Thailand 5 years ago. How could I not, it's on 24/7. :D My soccer-loving friends promised me there'd be a soccer-free period after the WC ended, but at my local bar the only TrueVision channels they ever play have been showing replays of WC games every night. :D Some boardies have suggested I actually pay for the satillite hook up at home. :D Sure I'd get to see the occassional baseball game on ASN, but I'd also be paying for all those other TrueVision sports channels, and that means soccer, soccer, and more soccer. :yikes: No thank you. :D At least I get my crappy cable hook-up for free, and don't have to fork out one satang for the "polka-dot-ball-sport".

C'mon, Vic. Stop telling porkies or making up the crap as you go along. ASN is on True Silver, so you wouldn't be paying for all those other TrueVision sports channels at all. As an added bonus, you can flick over to the Panda Channel during all those commercial breaks. Ask the girlies at school how it works, I'm sure they'd see you right. :D

You don't do your credibility much good at all when you spout such obvious nonsense as some sort of informed opinion.
