Cowboy Legend Don Meredith

Recommended Posts

Most NFL fans over 40 will fondly recall his time on Monday Night Football. Here's a nice tribute video.

I was just playing pool at a bar on Soi 7 on Sunday afternoon, and as is my habit when I am about to win (which happens rarely :thumbup ) I started singing his signature tune. I don't care much for the Cowboys, but I was a fan of Dandy Don.

ESPN ran a short bio of him last night during halftime....I didn't know that he had retired at the peak of his career...31 years of age...after going through a messy divorce.

he was a stockbroker for a short time after football, b/4, landing the MNF gig.

Howard, Frank and Dandy Don... great entertainment back in the day.

72?...that's pretty young to check out these days...remember... tomorrow is not a sure thing.

Don and the Cowboys vs Bart Starr and the Packers....some great games back then.

Watching MNF was a highlight of the week for me when I was a 12 year old kid.

His arguments with Cosell made it all the better even if the game was boring.

He also had a short stint as an actor after MNF.

Unfortunately, not for football players. I think their average lifespan extends into their 50's.....

I've never heard such a thing. A lot are crippled, but I'd not heard they were a day off the average on lifespan. Any idea where you remember that from? I'd like to look into that.

Meredith had a brain haemorrhage. Haven't seen a suggestion it was because he was a football player. I'll say this, that for a quarterback he was REALLY beat up, he had quite a rep for being tough.

not sure where the previous poster heard it , but i heard it on radio in Australia , they were talking about a charging incident , some guy head down charging into the quarterback and how they were using the helmets as weapons. The american correspondent then mentioned that the average lifespan was something like 20 years less than normal.

Dont know if theirs any actual facts but to it but it seems that their is an urban legend about it.
