Displayed prices are for multiple nights. Check the site for price per night. I see hostels starting at 200b/day and hotels from 500b/day on agoda.

It seems that a lot of folks don't seem to trust the stated alcohol content (5.5% I think) as displayed on the bottle. People say that it can vary wildly from bottle to bottle or keg to keg. I've been in a few a go-gos where the cheapest option is draught beer Chang and quite like the taste, but I've been hesitant to drink more than a couple of jars. I would like to believe that the manufacturers aren't complete idiots and have some kind of handle on their product. Does anyone know the truth? Can it be the loopy juice that is claimed or is it just hearsay?

I have also heard the same.

One idea is that the % may refer to the minimum alcohol content. I have had a couple of nights when I have thought "blimey I feel half pissed!" after only 2 or 3 bottles of beer, conversely also nights when I have sank 10 or more and woke up the next day with no ill effects!

From what I can make out there seem to be several varieties of Chang Beer available -- Regular, Classic, Draught and Light.

Classic is claimed to be minimum 6.4% ABV while the regular has 5% ABV on its label. Draught apparently is slightly weaker, both in terms of flavour and alcohol content but still has that distinctive malty taste and aroma.

Chang Light, at 4% alcohol by volume, is a full-bodied light beer and although alcohol content is lower, does not taste watered down.

I've often started off my evenings in Patts with a couple of glasses of the draught which is often offered as a promotion in various go gos,

but after reading various comments on this type of medium re: its "integrity" and content, went off it a bit !

That having been said the bottled/tinned variety is always one of the better value options at Family Mart or 7/11 for stocking the fridge in the hotel for a couple of swift ones, prior to hitting the road of an evening.

Yes, that rumour is well spoken here.... the chances are that the manufacturers are complete idiots or as close to them as you can get.

I like the taste of Chang, but after a few sessions of throwing my guts up decided to leave it alone.

Whether they were bad bottles, or just bottles with unduly high alcohol content, I don't care. I know many Chang drinkers who don't seem to have my problem with the product, and they are loath to drink any other brand. I tend to drink too fast, likely the result of growing up in Northern UK, where beer was good but low on alcohol content.
