New Plaza is a beer bar complex no better or worse than a dozen others in Pattaya. I figured most of the posts on New Plaza were simply wind-ups, good-natured or not. But leaving that aside, there isn't much reason to dwell on New Plaza. Those who by choice or necessity think it important to drink in a bar that sells beer at 35 baht a bottle may decide to visit New Plaza - there is little reason for anyone else to do so. New Plaza doesn't offer much beyond cheap booze and it certainly doesn't have a monopoly of 35-baht bottled beer. Small bars all over Pattaya sell beer at that price,

 

Nor is true that 35-baht beer is a magic answer to filling seats. From what I've seen, Mickey's Bar sometimes has decent crowds, Puy's has a few customers, but all the others are nearly empty. The customers at New Plaza mostly (but by no means exclusively) seem to be elderly guys drinking themselves to death on their pensions. Nothing strange about that, you see alcoholics slowly dying of cirrhosis of the liver in bars all over Pattaya. But to suggest that dive bars that cater mainly to down-and-outers somehow provide a model for rejuvenating Pattaya by "giving punters what they want" is absurd.

 

Anyway, I visited the belly of the beast and took the pictures below. If it's your kind of place, have fun! But I don't think New Plaza will be replacing Soi7/Soi 8 anytime soon, much less LK Metro or WS. Let me emphasize that I have nothing against New Plaza. If any member of this board enjoys the NP bars, that's great, but they don't hold much attraction for me. It's not a matter of NP being good or bad, it's just personal preference. What's wrong is the claim that the NP "model" will somehow sweep across Pattaya because of beer at 35 baht a bottle. Cheap booze in and of itself is no guarantee of success. There are dozens of bars in Pattaya that sell beer at that price. Some have a lot of regular customers, others don't - exactly like beer bars, indoor bars and gogos that sell beer at higher prices.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I got into the spirit of things at Mickey's and ordered a 120-baht meal. It came from Mickey's restaurant across the Soi and took 45 minutes to arrive. Not too bad, it reminded me of the food in the chain restaurants along the M1 motorway in the 1980s. At least my meal had been properly warmed in the microwave.

Martin as u dont know me may i inform u that i drink at NP about 3 hours a week when i meet friends there,A shame realy but most of my tourist and expat friends hate wanking st the same as me so i dont have to meet them there.We all have places we enjoy our friends company and there are places we dont like.You would hate it as there are only a couple of girls there under 20.

 

When were the pics taken EVIL,as u implyed you have just taken them???

 

One cashier that i have know for a very long time is pictured in one and she has been gone for about 2-3 months and workd in a chemist now.If the pics were a while ago and maybe 5.30pm why say you have just taken them???

Any standard beer bar areas like this, (of which there are soooo many in Pattaya) are merely a sideshow and nothing more to the main event in Pattaya which is Walking St, any posts to the contrary are living in la la land.

I was there a couple weeks ago... and no change from months ago.

 

I didnt notice more customers then before... but I did notice the same lack of anything remotely resembling something I would barfine if I Was sober... or even drunk for that matter.

Not everybody goes to a bar to see what birds are fuckable,some go out to meet mates,play pool,chat and have a laugh.so u dont go into bars unless they have some fanny fat

I spent alot of time in cherry bar in soi 8 the moto taxi always cut through new plaza on the way back to soi LK metro - the pictures seem pretty accurate for about pre 9 pm I think the place was busier 9pm onwards.

 

I went drinking thier with a couple of aussie guys, the place is sparse for women under 50 and seemed filled with the golden generation of ex-pat,

as a 6 week millionaire this place was not for me - but for an ex-pat who wanted a few beers with his mates I see nothign wrong with the place.

 

Bring your own atmosphere, lots of groups of guys having a good time by the looks of it, free pool in the 1 bar we went into and had a chat to women working thier who were good company for a couple of beers.

 

The photo were taken end of september by the look of it - party advertised for 04th october on one of the pics - i was thier 23rd Oct to 16th Dec - and looked pretty much the same as these pics early evening and a little busier late evening.

 

It is what it says on tin - lots fo bars with cheap beer - thier are a few larger bars with same deal on 2nd road - and look to have more entertainement value, but to each his own.

 

If I was an ex-pat on a budget I would probably frequent the place if I had friends that want a few beers and my p4p was sorted.

Thats why i do it to get this board moving.Alex taught me this,keep responding to topics make the forum busy,or would you prefer me to be a lurker lol.To be honest i dont hate walking shit,i just feel it too touristy and after a million go-go bars i do get bored,and gets me fucking horny too lol,then i have to go home and fuck the gf cos i do try to be a good boy.I go to go-so bars on the Metro and soi7 and soi 2 but only if mates want to go,i show them round and leave them when they want to fo lucifers or mixxx.I never strated any thread on NP or walking st,but i could do a good one of all the sados that go to the go-go bars in walking st,some very strange characters and you have to admit that,and far worse than the harmless expats at Np,who have good relationships and dont need or want to fuck about with hookers

Not at all. I just don't go to bars where the ONLY redeeming feature is the price of beer.

 

Cost does not effect me at all. I couldnt care less if the beer is 35 baht or 250 baht. If I like the place, I'll pay it. Simple.

 

When I want to go hang with friends its either Cherry Bar or FLB for me, but places have a much higher entertainment ratio then anyplace on Drinking street no matter what your personal tastes, unless of course your all for that 35 baht beer.
